Traditional Margarita 16oz
Paula N.

I walked in around noon on a Tuesday and was immediately greeted by the bartender. I sat at the bar, and he informed me of their lunch special: 2 tacos + rice & beans for $15 OR a burrito and a beer for $16. Without hesitation, I ordered 2 barbacoa tacos and a margarita. The tacos were amazingggg. I'm salivating simply typing this review. I thought I may need more food but honestly the tacos were packed and the margarita was beyond delicious (no mixer crap). As I was leaving, more people started to rush in so I'm glad I beat the crowd. I will ABSOLUTELY be returning!

Chicken Fajitas

Overall a 3.5/5 Service: really great! Fast, kind and they were always around. Food: okay. The tortilla chips were okay, the guac didnt have too much flavor and the nachos were fairly basic. Nothing stood out to me. The fajitas smelled great, but the flavor also wasnt jaw dropping to take it to a 5. Ambiance: really pretty outdoor spot was perfect for a nice day. I loved the outdoor space!!

Surf & Turf Fajitas

We stopped by here for a quick dinner. It was quite tasty. We got a frozen margarita which was sweet and refreshing on a hot day. We got the surf and turf fajitas which came out sizzling hot. The rice and guac on the side were very good. The nachos were very filling and generous with the toppings. Overall a solid place

Came to Calexico with my family and fiancé and had such a great time! The service was top-notch--everyone was super friendly and attentive. The music added a fun vibe without being too loud. We ordered the pollo asado tacos, which were absolutely delicious and super affordable. The elote was a classic and didn't disappoint--perfectly seasoned and creamy. Definitely recommend this spot for a tasty and relaxed meal!

Came here on a Saturday with my husband and two daughters (7&11) . Seated right away kind of empty when we came in. My youngest daughter is very picky so she only ordered chips lol my husband got a wet Barbacoa burrito. My 11 year old got grilled chicken burrito. I got the nachos with chicken. We also ordered margaritas and my daughter got a strawberry, cucumber lemonade. Food came out rather quickly. As soon as I saw my chips i thought I wouldn't like them because I saw the cheese is like a sauce. Last time a Mexican restaurant gave me that on my nachos it was gross it tasted like velveeta. These were actually good, and oh so big when my family members finished their burritos they were digging in my chips lol my daughter loved the lemonade me and my husband didn't really like the margaritas they were not strong and tasted like pure mix (sugar) we still drank them lol will come again. There was another guy that took our plates and asked if we were good . I think he was maybe the manager or owner. Very pleasant. By the time we left it was pretty crowded.

Shrimp Bowl

Came here on a rainy Friday night to get some comfort Tex Mex food. I started off with a Paloma and a shrimp burrito bowl. The Paloma was solid and the shrimp burrito bowl was great. Afterwards, I had a little room left and ordered a Mexican corn app to split with my bf. The portion was huge! However, it was a little disappointing because I was expecting to be more spicy than it was. Nonetheless, would recommend this place if you're looking for a cute casual dining spot in Greenpoint. 4/5

Chicken Fajitas

Cool spot on the busy Manhattan Ave strip in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Dimly lit, but not overly dark. Easily can go between family dinner to a cocktail date. Service was good, from the host to the waiter to the bus-person. Sometimes a little too fast but rather that then slow service.

New portion size at Calexico?

2 stars for our last visit. For everything from service to food presentation to price / value for meal . We were sitting inside and the A/C was dripping on us so we moved to another table, we told the busser about the dripping and they still set the table should anyone come in , we couldn't believe it. When I asked the manager on duty about food prep he told us "I'm sorry I'm new here , please ask your server " who unfortunately seemed just as confused by my request. So a big let down on this visit, hope they get it together. Photo on left is Calexico the one on the right is at La Parridilla in Atlanta GA I have been to Parridilla numerous times and they NEVER disappoint. Not sure what's up with Calexio but we have had a few issues over the last few visits, might start looking elsewhere.

I have been here many times. Is one of my to go Mexicanos restaurant around my neighborhood. The food and service are always wonderful! They have a lunch special for $14. Is pretty good deal for the amount of food you will get

Amazing food! Amazing service!!! The cocktails are phenomenal!! Run here to experience great food and drinks.. I had the wet chipotle pork burrito and it was awesome!

Cali style burrito
Mark E.

TLDR: Fantastic happy hour (buy one get one on select drinks), great burritos that will be sure to fill you up, great ambiance. Made it in time for happy hour and was able to get a margarita, a draft beer, and the cali style burrito. The draft beer was fresh and the margarita was well balanced with an included salt rim as well. I got to go with a friend who also got a margarita and beer because the happy hour deal was buy one get one free. Cali style Burrito - personally felt the french fries were overpowering the other flavors and had to take my time to get a taste of everything. Nothing that a little hot sauce wouldn't fix either. Overall, I definitely reccomend calexico for happy hour and am curious to try other great things on their menu

Black bean taco and ground beet taco
Aakruti V.

I like this place. I went on a hot summer day, after a long walk, and it really hit the spot. You can either sit at the bar, or at a table. The ambience is casual but fun. I ordered the black bean taco, which was a soft taco, and the ground beet taco, which was in a hard shell. Both were pretty tasty. The black bean taco was pretty standard: messy to eat but packed with flavorful ingredients. The ground beet stayed together better as it was in a hard shell taco, but the beet flavor was interesting. It was seasoned with mexican spices, and the texture was similar to ground beef. The server was friendly and attentive, and I was in and out quickly (as I wanted to be). It's a cute spot for a casual low-key date.

Nice happy hour and a large chocolate drink selection I was at this unique Guatemalan (ish) restaurant a while back with one of my groups. I said "ish" because the menu has dishes from all over, ranging from sandwiches to BBQ ribs to Guatemalan and Mexican soups. It's out there, and even though not everything works that well, it's fun, and if you can't find something you want to order here, you probably shouldn't go out to restaurants. There was also live jazz music that night, which was loud but nice to listen to. Since it was happy hour, a bunch of us got drinks. I went with a maracuya margarita, which was decent; someone else had a jalapeño margarita, someone had a beer, and someone had a mojito. There were a few nice hot sauces on the table, with the red one reminding me of salsa macha as it had a smoky kick and a spicier green sauce reminiscent of ají verde. They gave us some complimentary blue corn chips and a very mild black bean dip, which was tasty enough and hard to complain about, as it was free. From the appetizers, we got the Hot Figs for $15.95, consisting of honey goat cheese, corn tortilla chips, and plum + pumpkin seeds. This was a unique and fun blend and reminded me more of something you would find in a wine bar. The mix of sweet and salty, with a bit of crunch from the seeds, was nice. This was good, and I would recommend it for a table rather than for a solo diner. There was also The Zingy Salad for $21.95, featuring zucchini spirals, yuzu, tomato, onion, cilantro, pumpkin seeds, and a jalapeño infusion. $18.95. The salad was fine with a bit of crunch and a mild spiciness. It was fine, though a bit wet, for lack of a better word. The best dishes of the night were the soups, which each had its own distinct flavor profile. My sight presence went to the Pepián for $21.95, consisting of chicken, pumpkin/sesame seeds, green tomatillo, cinnamon, cumin, black pepper, carrots, chili coban/pasta/guaque, and potato + rice. There was plenty of tender chicken inside, with the soup having a nice roasted flavor with some spice and a bit of sourness. The potatoes and rice on the bottom added more sustenance to this dish. Almost equally delicious was the Caldo Tlalpeño Rojo for a dollar more with shredded chicken, tomato, black pepper, garlic, onions, peas, chickpeas, corn, achiote, chipotle, Monterey jack cheese, and crunchy blue corn tortilla chips. By comparison, this was a bit heartier, with the melted cheese and shredded tortilla chips inside, similar to soups found in Mexican cuisine. While I also liked the mix of veggies a bit more in this one, as it added a bit more texture, I still slightly preferred the flavor of the other soup, as I usually prefer a bit more spice. The rest of the food was fine. The TPC sandwich for $19.95 with chicken, peanut butter, coconut cream, ginger, cilantro, pickled carrots, and lime was fine. For the number of ingredients, I found it a bit sweet, likely from the cream and the peanut butter mix. The bread was nice, but it also fell apart. It came with a nice side salad with a good vinaigrette. The most expensive at $24.95 were the Slow Cooked BBQ Ribs, consisting of baby back ribs with rice and beans. The ribs were almost a bit too tender as they lacked any bite, which was nice, but the sauce was a bit too generic tasting, reminding me of Sweet Baby Ray's or something similar. The rice and beans were standard. This was also OK. Next came some dessert. There was first the $12.95 Rosemary Churros served with dulce de leche & chocolate dips. While I'm not sure if it worked, the rosemary did add a unique smell and a bit of flavor, and at least it wasn't generic. The churros themselves were hot, and the sauces were standard, with my preference being the dulce de leche. I also ordered a Champurrado for $7.95, which was fine. It wasn't as thick as I expected, though perhaps the style is a bit different than the champurrados I rarely buy from Mexican street carts. The chocolate flavor was very nice, though, and I like that it wasn't too sweet. Another person got a $4 Alfajor, which I got a bite of, which was standard. This place is a bit hard to rate. The two soups were wonderful, I liked the appetizers, and I found a couple of the other dishes just OK. Overall, it was a good meal, but I'm not craving to go back. This would be the perfect 3.5, but I'll round up as that doesn't exist.

Every table has a placemat with crayons which is such a fun way to keep kids and adults entertained. The food was delicious and tasted fresh, living up to their messaging on sourcing local food. We ordered the egg katsu sandwich and the eggs rothko. The sandwich was very well made with a nice crisp panko crusting that didnt feel heavy on the oil, and yet still managed to have a light airy egg inside. The eggs rothko was buttery and flavorful but still managed to not feel too heavy. The broiled tomatos on the side were a nice touch to contrast the egg and toast from the main dish. Overall I enjoyed this place and would love to come back to try more dishes. The vibe was friendly and welcoming, making it the perfect weekend brunch spot.
