BEWARE of unexpected billing. I went to West Valley Medical Center for a preventative screening…read moreafter being referred by my primary care physician. The procedure was supposed to be covered 100% by my insurance and was pre-approved. Despite that, I ended up being billed nearly $6,000. Whether this resulted from a coding error or something else, I don't know. What has been especially frustrating is my experience trying to get the situation corrected. Staff associated with WVMC and Dr. Gay have been extremely unhelpful, and I found some of the interactions rude and dismissive. I went in believing I was receiving a pre-approved preventative screening covered by my insurance and instead ended up facing a bill of almost $6,000, with very little assistance in getting the issue resolved. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend that patients verify--in writing--exactly how their procedure will be coded and billed before having it performed. I certainly wish I had and will be pursuing legal remedies. BEWARE.
