Chronic delays seem to be the norm, not the exception. It's clear they are either understaffed or poorly managed, as they "never have enough rooms" to handle patients on time. On top of that, the customer service is unacceptable--unhelpful, dismissive, and far from what you would expect at a children's hospital. For the level of care and the cost associated with this hospital, the experience is simply not justified. Families deserve better--especially when it comes to their children's care.

Despite having a clearly positive thyroid peroxidase antibody result (TPOAb = 109 IU/mL) -- a textbook marker for Hashimoto's thyroiditis -- Dr. Rivas-Chacon dismissed it and instead diagnosed me with SLE (lupus), Sjögren's syndrome, and rheumatoid arthritis, without confirming those diagnoses through appropriate criteria. As a result, I was prescribed Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) for years. That medication, which I now know I may never have needed, caused permanent retinal toxicity, tunnel vision, and cataracts. I live with irreversible vision loss that could have been avoided if Hashimoto's had been recognized and treated when the evidence was right there. It has taken me over a decade to finally uncover what was missed -- that Hashimoto's thyroiditis was likely the root cause all along. This doctor's dismissal of key lab results and mismanagement of my care has profoundly affected my life, health, and independence. I urge anyone seeking autoimmune care -- especially women -- to insist on full thyroid testing (TPOAb, TgAb, TSH, Free T4/T3) and to get a second opinion if you're being diagnosed without clear evidence.
