So don't be turned off by the name! This is a great place to shop for a man of any style - you can get some great basics like jeans and plain tees, but then also head down the relaxed-surfer-skater path if you choose. I love all the sunnies that they stock in the window and while this is specifically a store for men, I have purchased a few pairs in my time. Perfect for that sunny day at a festival. The staff are lovely and are happy to let you browse around and the prices are very reasonable.

Their clothes are free from bells and whistles and are generally quite plain. However, their stuff is still fashion-forward and not dull. They have a decent selection of jackets, crewnecks and hoodies, shirts, t's and jeans. They also have a good selection of shoes (mostly Vans, but a wide variety) and sunglasses.

At the moment, nobody does denim (jeans and jackets), shorts and slinky singlets better. Being new to Melbs Central, don't be fooled by the initial impression. It may be a haven for emo's and teenage wannabe's, but the quality and range of super cool brands, not to mention the prices, make the average customer between 20-40 years old, male and female. If you've got little kiddies, you may also have fun G'ing them up!

The glass is so shiny you can even use it as a mirror - be prepared for an annoyed glance for staff members if you so much as breathe on the glass however. The staff (and the pristine cleanliness and obvious wealth) are what deters me from this shop. I have never actually set more than three footsteps down inside due to pure intimidation. The day I did take those few steps I was met with a staff member dolled up to the nines behind the counter. She slowly raised her head, looked me up and down just as slowly and then looked away. The only other person in the shop was a customer who was similarly dressed to the staff member and was being shown a variety of wedding bands by a male staff member. Immediately my jeans and a t-shirt felt out of place and I backtracked hastily out. It shouldn't matter whether or not you can afford the items in a shop, you should never be made to feel so uncomfortable by staff that you actually leave before looking at anything. I have never wanted to go back since. The prices are exorbitant and it is clear they are trying to attract wealthy or upper society customers. There is nothing bad about the shop itself, I just wouldn't recommend it to the average shopper.

Better than an art gallery though because I get to touch everything and even try stuff on. This New Zealand designer store is full of gorgeous clothes suitable for the confirmed urban fashion outsider with a heavy wallet. The look is dark and sombre with a wearable colour palette of black, white, grey and dark blue. Carrying international names like Bernhard Willhelm and Rick Owens, and accessories labels AF Vandervorst and Company of Strangers, Nom*D is a heavy-hitter for the lover of edgy, left-of-centre fashion. For such an upmarket store, the staff are actually really nice and don't seem to mind that I'm often in there wandering around but have never bought anything. I'm sure it isn't just me who does it. They must get that a lot.

One of my favourite labels can be found here: Rick Owens (hooray!). There are jackets, skirts, dresses, tops, boots, jewellery and more in here. Luckily the store is enormous and so the merchandise is displayed beautifully in the space and I agree with the previous reviews, its almost like walking around an art gallery. The sales assistant when I dropped by was on the phone, but she still managed to smile and make me feel welcome while she was in the middle of the conversation - I was quite impressed. Nom*d is the perfect destination if you are after clothing that is different and bold. It's tough and well made from the leather boots in the front window to the draped dresses that hang around the store.
