Ms. Pompa did an AMAZING job on our cake. This was for my husband's 38th birthday, which happened to fall on Friday the 13th. I sent pictures and requested a bloody Jason mask cake with a knife on it. (Keeping with the theme). We were all impressed with the results. We got chocolate cake with oreo filling. Husband is not a cake person at all and loved it. Everyone in our area of the restaurant were amazed at this work of art. The waitstaff even asked to take pictures. :-) The cake was a difficult one, but Ms. Pompa handled it with ease. The cake was moist, but not wet, fluffy, flavorful but not overpowering. Tasty but not too sweet. Everything balanced out. Ms. Pompa will be my cake creator ongoing. Thanks for the response, cake it! Unfortunately, I still stick to my original rating. Professionally packing the a custom cake worth $315 is a minimum expectation. Even Kroger does a much better job in caring for the cake and making sure customer is satisfied. In this case, the box provided was hardly covering the bottom layer. The characters discussed and finish that was I the pictures to what is ultimately on the cake is no where close. It felt like a kid was making these animals. Spending time with the customer to discuss the design is expected for a custom cake - if you feel like you did a favor in discussing the details, you are probably in the wrong business. read more

I called Cake It and talked about what I wanted and then texted a picture as an example. Pompa (the owner/baker) did a very nice job. When I showed up at her home to get the cake, the home appeared very clean and she was wearing a hair net. Pick up was quick and easy. The cake was delicious, moist, not overly sweet and presented well. It was a big hit among the engineers! She followed up with me the next day to ask if I was happy with the cake. My experience is that you should be able to cut your cake with a knife, at the very least. The cake was so dry it was the consistency of a cookie on the edges. At first I was going to give this a 4 star rating because the owner operator wasn't wearing a mask, and that really bothered me.....until I tasted the cake. Then I couldn't do that! It was the most incredibly delicious, soft flavorful, melt in your mouth wonderful cake I've ever had. I thought I was a good baker....not anymore! This was a treat. I ordered a 6" marble cake with chocolate icing (even it was spectacular!) plus ground almond roca candy on top of the icing. When I say D E L I C I O U S, I'm not kidding! Her cakes, I believe, are all three layer. Even the 6" was enough for 8 or 10 people. We all had a generous slice, but thank goodness we had leftovers! I'll do this again! Get the hummingbird cake!! You won't be sorry! I really appreciate that this is a locally owned, family run dessert shop. The ingredients are high quality and there are fun and unique options. They probably make more off of special orders, but I appreciate that I can pop into a storefront for a slice of cake or a cupcake whenever I want.
