its an ok golf club, would say it is the best as it is a council course, usually the 9 holer is plotted with divets and doughnuts

I don't play golf, but went for a dog walk here and the course looks incredible. I know we have the…read morebest courses in the world, and St Andrew's is the pinnacle. Gorgeous space and beautiful views in a lovely town.

What a treat it was to walk the Old Course here at the birthplace of golf.  This is the world's…read moreoldest golf course, and golf started here in the early 15th century.  We were super lucky to be scheduled to come here on a Sunday when the course is closed for play (except for pro tournaments) and open to the public like us to meander about.  Yet there was an untimely pro tournament ongoing the day we were here, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, but fortunately play had moved along, and we could still wander about.  The wife and I got onto the 18th fairway and captured a memorable photo with the famous Royal and Ancient Golf Club clubhouse situated by the 18th green.  The British Open is often played here, and I've uninterestingly watched snippets of it over the years, but in the future it will be fun to watch it much more closely as I've now set foot on this famous course.  I also in retrospect wished I had time to go by the 17th hole, widely known to be the golf world's most famous and difficult par 4 hole.  You can look it up, it's riiidiiiculous! and major championships have been lost or won on that hole.  Anyway, it was a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit here, and in good weather to boot.

So book a table for last Friday and told over the phone that orders have to be in before 7:45 and…read morethat we would have to sit in the back bar as they had a function on but we agreed to this as we were informed before we got there so not to bad, as we were told the kitchen would close at 7:45 we turn up early (7:00 for a 7:30 booking) to the restaurant so that we have time to look at the menu and decide. The table was already set for us but must have been 12 inches high for a meal in a so called restaurant...hmm. The order is taken at 7:25 giving us 20 min to get the food eat it and order a pudding if we want it ... my wife orders the lasanga and me steak and chips ... The food comes out and the steak looks ok ... my wife on the other hand looks down to find dried out lasagna sorrounded by greasy water ... so defrosted lasagna heated in a microwave .... delicious!!!!! we send it back but at this point my wife has been totally put off by any skills of the so called chief and so decides to just order another glass of wine but even this we have to get ourselves from the bar as this is forgotten about. I finish mine but how could you go wrong with steak and chips oh and no offer of pubbing. When we ask for the bill we put our complaints to the waitress who advises that the manager is not in and the duty manager (who was the chief) has just left. An offer to take our details and the manager would call the next day to address the complaints so we leave our details and what a surprise its now Sunday at 13:00 and no one has called, can't say I'm surprised though as when we were ordering our food a lady at the next table had to place a complaint about there food as well. Now maybe it's just me but if there had been two complaints in the same night about the quality of food in your restaurant then I would want to know what was going on. So after all that if your thinking of going for a meal there DON'T and if you do don't be surprised if you don't like the food. Oh and the function was a 16th birthday party for which the music was all from the early 80's I'm sure the person who birthday that was could relate to that...

good food, good choice of menu,High tea the best Value, other prices not too dear, beutiful setting…read more, well worth a visit
