After walking around the Saarbruecken Christkindl Market, we were looking for an early dinner The Mr often comes to Cafe Kostbar for lunch with his coworkers so he knew we'd be in for a treat Bread dumplings in mushroom sauce for the Mr. he's a huge dumpling fan & these were flavorful and just a bit crispy which was a lovely addition I chose the squash cannelloni with cheese & mushrooms. The pumpkin was plentiful and very squashy without being too sweet. It was phenomenal Mom had the fish and said it was the tenderest, flakiest fish she's had & it was indeed perfectly cooked Fantastic meals all around! read more

We arrived at almost 2pm on a drizzly weekday hoping we could still get lunch, and were not disappointed. We ordered off the chalkboard menu; vegetarian curries for my two sisters, schnitzel and noodles for me, a robust salad for my niece. Delicious! The main dining area is up a flight of stairs and overlooks a courtyard that would have been our seating choice in better weather. Local artists' work hangs on the walls, and the vibe is funky, off-beat and pleasant. The bill for all four of us included a glass of beer for me and wine for the rest, coffees and a yummy shared desert, and was less than 45 euros. This part of Saarbruecken is not a tourist area and the menu and the sweet, patient waitress were strictly Deutsch, but please don't be put off by that. read more

History

Established in 1990.

Die Räume des Café Kostbar und die anschließenden Gebäude der Nauwieser Str. 19 dienten seit der Erbauung im Jahre 1906 bis Ende der 1970er Jahre verschiedenen Handwerksbetrieben. 1988 begann der alternative Zusammenschluss "Nauwieser 19 e.V." unterstützt durch Stadt und Land mit aufwendigen Renovierungsarbeiten. Die offizielle Eröffnung des Kultur- und Werkhofs Nauwieser 19 e.V. und damit auch des Café Kostbar fand am 26. August 1990 statt. Im Laufe der Jahre hat das Café sich zum kommunikativen Mittelpunkt des Kultur- und Werkhofs entwickelt und ist inzwischen ein beliebter, inspirierender Ort in der Saarbrücker Innenstadt. Der ursprünglich reine Café-Betrieb hat sich in mehr als 20 Jahren mit einer internationalen, abwechslungsreichen Speisekarte um eine geschätzte Küche erweitert. Mit den wunderschönen Linden im Biergarten ist die angenehm-gemütliche Atmosphäre auch in den Innenräumen gewachsen.

Huge windows allow a lot of natural light to come in and help the delicious coffee wake you up. Whenever I am back in town I will be here for breakfast!

Ich kannte das Café Kostbar im Nauwieser Viertel bisher nur vom Biergarten. In warmen Sommernächten haben wir oft stundenlang dort gesessen und die wunderbare Atmosphäre genossen. Mir war eigentlich gar nicht klar, dass man innen auch gut sitzen kann. Haben uns aber letztens von Freunden überreden lassen. Die obere Etage ist wirklich ganz besonders. Naja, die Küche kannten wir ja schon! Diesmal gab es Involtini aus Geflügelfleisch und die Herren nahmen jeweils den Grillteller und Geschnetzeltes. Wir waren rundum zufrieden. Wie immer sehr lecker alles. Insbesondere die Auswahl war größer und der Service schneller als noch im Sommer im Biergarten. Preise sind sowieso okay. Deshalb sollte man auch reservieren! read more
