Leertè, is a book themed cafe where, from the details in their patio, to their menu and even the bill, you can tell a lot of thought has gone into the decoration and presentation of this pleasant cafe. Books surround their walls, and they offer them all free of the 19% book tax. It is hip with quality teas of various flavors and aromas. I recommend the mango tea. Their coffee, although with much fewer options, is still tasty with a dark rich espresso base. The only reason I took a star away was for their service. Although once we were talking with the waitress they were nice and helpful (our waitress went through the extensive tea list explaining about the different flavors, and types of tea) however, it was really hard for them to come to the table and take our order. When it was time to get the check we ended up going to the cash register since the waitresses were too busy to even notice we were trying to get their attention. There, we talked with the owner, a sweet older woman who was very friendly and helpful. We even ended up buying a couple of slices of cake to go! They offer daily lunch and once specials that are very reasonably priced. Each item on their menu is named with a book or fairytale name (even their WIFI password). Depending on the time of day, I recommend ordering one of their sandwiches (prices range from 1.600-4.700) along with one of their teas with the tea pot. You can end your visit with a happy ending with one of their homemade pies and cakes - they even have ice cream to add on top of one of their kuchens - yum! Tips: they make their own cakes there, if you want a cake for a birthday you can order with 24 hours in advance. You can also buy the teas. They give it to you in a pretty glass jar. When you come back, if you come with the jar you get a discount. Great place to work! WIFI is good and ambiance is relaxed and quiet.

Luckily La Teteria came to Santiago about 4 years ago and they are definitely here to stay. They offer a large variety of different teas from all over the world, they are full leaved tea that you steep in a tea pot. If you want to replicate the amazing experience and aromas at home, they sell bags of tea (just like a bag of coffee) and all the accessories you need. If you are not sure which tea to pick, the staff are super knowledgable and will explain the different tastes and aromas and which tea is best for what you want. Not only to they have an amazing selection of teas, but they also have delicious pastries, specifically the blueberry cheesecake. This cheesecake will have your heart skipping a beat. Made with real cream cheese, blueberries and an amazing soft crust, it is the first thing you should order (then you can experiment with their muffins, pies and tres leches). If you are not in the mood for something sweet, they also serve simple sandwiches, quiche, all-natural soup (not the sopa para uno you usually come across) as well as salads. Their food is all-natural with fresh, local ingredients, making for a delicious final product that is good to accompany any tea. Tip: If you can't make it to La Teteria they offer delivery of tea (I am not sure about the cheesecake) you can order online any of the accessories and teas you would like. Call them if you have any questions on which teas they have available.

Café Colonia is one of my favorite pastry shops downtown. Their two different cafes on Mac Iver…read moreremind me of Hansel and Gretle's home (or something you would find in the Swiss Alpes). Its wooden roof, large windows and warm interior is especially enticing, convincing you to come in, sit down and drink a cup of coffee with a delicious one of their pastries. The women who work there are super friendly, and the outfits they wear also go with the theme of the cafe. They are quick to help you pick between the many different options and are quick at serving it - even during the busy lunch or once hour. I recommend their buttercream vanilla cake (the frosting is thick and very buttery). Also, they have a delicious lucuma cake that makes my mouth water just thinking about it - their frosting is my favorite part of the cake and I usually eat it by the finger-full. However, my all time favorite is their chocolate cake (in fact, after the Chile-Brazil game, I walked over and picked one up for myself to drown my sorrows -- it is that good!). The cake itself is moist and the chocolate mousse in the middle gives it the perfect chocolatey texture and taste to satisfy even the most passionate chocolate lover. Their cakes are perfect to order for birthdays (call before to order ahead of time and get it personalized) They also have mini personal cakes (that are fairly cheap: $1.700/each) they are great to pick up quickly to let someone know you were thinking about them or better yet, a personal treat for yourself!

I had one of their signature tres leches (three milks) cake at a friends birthday party and I would give it maybe a 2 if that. It wasn't very moist and it had raspberry jelly and rum mixed into it. Tres Leches is probably one of the best Latin treats there is and somehow Cafe Colonia just didn't cut it. Maybe it was just from this location, however the store doesn't seem that appealing to me either. The lighting is dark and the cakes from the window view look tacky. I have to be fair and if you need a last minute cake and you don't want to get one from the supermarket Cafe Colonia is a fine option. I haven't tried their other cakes and I would be willing to go back and give another one a chance. I am kinda a fanatic about the Tres Leches cake so maybe being a bit harsh
