When I showed him our reservation, he started yelling no - no - no and shaking his head and threw a towel down and then stormed off. The young woman knew nothing and would not even talk to us and did not apologize to us while we were there. We had friends with us and it was so embarrassing as we told them how nice people are in our town of Saumur. She later sent us a note saying they had system problems which really made no sense. We had even emailed that day to confirm.

Very good. Our first choice was the Lobster Salad and the Escargot - both delicious. This was followed by the (rare) Filet Mignon with Scalloped Potatoes and the perfectly cooked Fish of the day cooked almost in the Alsace style. Amazing! We both then enjoyed 5 different Sorbets. With 2 glasses of wine the bill came to around 72 euro. Well worth seeking out.

It's not often you find a quality Irish pub located on the Loire in Saumur, France, but The Celtic…read moreis one of a kind! Serving meals all day every day, The Celtic is an ideal place to pop into for a beer, snack or for an evening meal. With seating both outside and upstairs, it's good for group entertaining. Beers and wines are plentiful (Leffe, Hoegarden, Duval and local types sitting comfortably alongside better knowns such as Stella and Guiness!) but suprisingly, The Celtic serves a wide range of alcoholic and non alcoholic cocktails, presented in a strangely tropical and extravagant way that even Del Boy would be proud of! Delicious, and well worth trying, especially the one featuring Papaya and Bacardi. Food wise, the ommellettes are filling (mushroom and fromage a favourite) and the pizzas thin, crispy and delicious. Good old Fish and Chips also makes an appreciated appearance. Recommended pub!

We were hungry for some non French food and were pleased to find this restaurant open (not closed…read morelike most of the others we had attempted during our two weeks in France). The food was generally quite good, made with some regionally quirky ingredients but still, quite good. I felt that this restaurant excelled at Dim Sum and was decent at some of the Szechuan items. The noodle dishes were sort of average and the portion sizes were pretty small. However, the folks making and serving the food were very connected to what was important to us. One of the best things they did was to recognize that we were Americans and we like ice in our drinks, especially on 90 degree days. We did not even have to ask for eau glace, as the server just brought it to us that way! If your'e in this area and are tired of every place with their endless Fois Gras offerings, then this place is a nice detour and was quite satisfying to me and my family and was a veritable bargain at about 68 Euros for 3 people. Actual review date was August 11, 2018. I would recommend this place as a very decent place for a non French dinner while in France.

There's a small parking lot just below the restaurant (new adress in case Google didn't change it: 73 rue haute saint Maurice), which was very convenient. Paid by meter. We made a reservation on this weekday, which turned out smart, since the place was fully booked for lunch. Inside it's a very classy, comfy setting. There's also a pretty courtyard, but it was a rainy day. We both chose the Set Menu "M" for a very fair 48 Euros each. An excellent Amuse Bouche started the meal - a very nice seafood bisque. For the starters we chose the Foie Gras Chaud Réduction Acidulée de Vin Rosé et Cerises Pickels de Baie de Goji and the Terrine de Foie Gras au Calvados Compotée de Pomme au Vinaigre de cidre Tuiles aux Algues. Both amazing choices, especially if you're into Foie Gras like us. The hot Foie Gras was so tender, it was really melting on our tongues. Not that easy to find hot Foie anymore. And this one was divine. For mains we've had the Filet de Veau (veal) Rôti cuit a Basse Temperature Sauce Aigre Douce à la Poire et Jus de Canard Poire Pochée and the Ris de Veau Braisé (sweetbreads) au Mies Réduction de Coteau du Layon au Citron Vert Duxelle de Champignons. A very tender, juicy piece of veal. Cooked to perfection. And the Ris de Veau was the best one I've ever had. Amazing dish. Both dessert were also delicous. That's where many restaurants struggle. Not so here, the desserts were as amazing as the other dishes. Had a bottle of Crémant with the meal, which went very well with the Foie and the meat. Staff/owner were all wonderful, helpful and made us feel welcome. Welcome was also our Bulldog inside the restaurant. Food quality, execution, presentation, hospitality. All on top level. A perfect lunch experience. And fair priced as well. Surely we'll be back one day.
