As an Eastern European, I felt that this place hit the spot. We ordered the "Worker and Farmer" brunch for two on a late Sunday morning, after quickly being seated (not bad for a Sunday), as well as a variety of drinks (I was too excited with all the options they had, including birch juice!). I really liked the fresh fruity (raspberry-based?) mors, and the kvass was not too bad. The brunch itself was very tasty. I especially enjoyed the eggplant spread ("eggplant caviar"?), the cold cut and the sirniki with homemade strawberry jam. Really felt like being home at babushka's place :) The only downside was the coffee, it tasted a little bit burnt. But leaving something to be desired has never been a bad thing! read more

So this was my first time to ever eat Russian food and I was really pleasantly surprised. The menu also comes in English but you have to ask for it. Russian food appears to more of a winter time food but I could be wrong, I am just working on this menu. I ordered the Makarony Hahnchen with rhubarb juice on the side. The dish was absolutely delicious, thoroughly enjoyed it. It consisted of grilled chicken, pasta in pesto, tomatoes and lots of rocket. The rhubarb was OK but that's more of a personal thing as I prefer it carbonated which I should of asked for. Service was very friendly, perhaps a bit slow but that seems to be in part due to the laid back nature of the neighbourhood. We sat outside which was beautiful especially in a Berlin spring. read more

If I thought Datscha was good after my first visit, it totally blew me away when we went for brunch. Some back story: I love brunch. A LOT. The brunch at Datscha sounded really good so we paid it a second visit during our holiday. We got a seat outside in the shade/nearly sun on a warm day. To a person who has lived in gloomy Glasgow for nearly 6 years, that was a god send. We looked over the menu but I knew what I wanted - the Worker and Farmer breakfast. For €15.10 you get: home-marinated salmon, fresh potato pancakes, salmon caviar, scramble eggs with fresh herbs, curd pancakes, blini rolls with spinach, blini rolls with curd vegetable spread, fruit, butter, jam, honey and breadbasket. For two people. Obviously. Could this breakfast be as good as it sounded? It was better. See my photo - have you ever seen such a lush plate of food? I swear I nearly passed out with happiness when I tasted it. This was - without a doubt - the best breakfast/brunch meal I've ever had. I can't even pick a favourite on the platter because it was all delicious and super, super fresh. I stupidly ate some of the cold stuff first rather than the hot items. The potato pancakes were perfectly crispy and lovely, the yoghurt had a lovely topping of slivered almonds and the smoked salmon was generous and tender. There was also a bread basket with it which I forgot to take a photo of. All up, this was an epic breakfast and if I could feasibly have this every day, I would. Sadly, I don't live in Berlin. But I would go out of my way to go back here next time I return. Oh, and did I mention it was crazy good value? €15 for two people! Amazing. read more

We went for brunch and it was really great. The service was prompt and friendly and the decor was very cute and kitschy. We got the Worker and Farmer breakfast for two. This included a crispy potato pancake with smoked salmon, assorted fruit, flavorful scrambled eggs, some sweet cheese I've never had before and a few dips/sauces. Our meal also came with a really delicious bread and croissant basket. It was reasonably priced and it was a ton of food. Coffee is pretty good and they have vegetarian options. I should start by saying this food was so delicious that my friend started to cry when she began to eat. This is a meal that definitely leads to conversation about how good it is to be alive. I had the pelmeni, which I found fantastic, since I had not had it since being in Russia four years ago. No complaints. Even more delicious than I remember. Perfect portion size as well. The meal came out to around 20€ with a cocktail, which was reasonable and made complete sense for the quality of the food as well as the service. If you want a cheaper experience, the food by itself was eleven. And the drink. Wow. The Russian monster was fantastic. The service was also amazing. Our server checked in with us to see if the drink was too sweet or just right- of course it was just right. I could not be happier with my experience and I look forward to whenever I can return! WODKA!! A coworker one day told us that we have to try this place. It's really good and highly recommended. So, without thinking twice, a small group of us took the taxi to our new destination. The taxi pulled up in front of a very interesting storefront that advertised a "whirl pool" restaurant. We stared at it and got confused. When we finally consulted the map, we were glad that the restaurant is half a block away. First thing we did after we sat down is to order WODKA! (Sorry, can't say WODKA without screaming WODKA!) there were many selections for us to choose from. What we didn't know was that the appetizer we chose actually came with 10ml of WODKA! Even though they look the same, it's amazing how each WODKA tastes so differently from another. We were very glad we got to pick different ones to try. Drinks aside, the food was to die for. I forgot the name of what I ordered, but it was served with 2 creamy potato puff and shredded meat with sauce. I could just eat the potato puff all day long. It was that amazing. Needless to say, my coworker did us right my suggesting this place. Next time I'm in town, I'm coming back! read more

The menu rocks my socks and Im looking forward to just going down the list with each visit. Also the staff are kind, quick, and well... attractive. Should that matter? Of course not. Did it enhance my visit? Yes. I digress. Excellent food. And, one more thing, for a Russian food place, they've added a Berlin twist by putting plenty of Vegetarian-Russian style dishes on the menu. We just passed this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon, still remembered the nice warm main dish (guess some salmon asparagus , quite tasty as we remembered) we had here a year ago. This time we were up for russian starter Sakuska, one with potato salad and sausages (proletariat for 7€) and the other a selection of smoked fish (intelligenz 8 €). With not many guests in the restaurant we waited "only" for 20min for the waiter + 40 min more for the food 30min for the bill . 10 min after ordering food, the second waiter asked if we want to eat something. There should be a software who can handle 10 guest and 2 waiter... The fish dish came in small jars somehow tasty, the 2 spoon-potato-salad and 2 slices of some very industrial standard sausage was a complete dissapointment. Only the bortschtsch we ordered was price-worthy. to sum up: we had a lot of time to watch cars passing by, the 2 waiter couldnt handle 10 guests, seems to develop towards a tourist spot. the bortschtsch saved the second star. I live around the corner and I have to admit that I was kind of scepticaluntil I went there. I think they have the best breakfast in Friedrichshain and the other food is just as awesome. I go there twice a week, try different things from the menu everytime and every dish is just as fantastic as the last one. What makes the whole experiene even better is that the service is great and you never have to wait very long before the food reaches the table. We went there on a Sunday for brunch and I was so happy because there was fish, fish, fish!! Plenty different plates and a big buffet, so inviting to devour all there!! I went here with a group of friends last night. We didn't have a reservation and the place was full, but we were lucky and scored a table. Highlights - Service was neutral. They came by a couple of times and were pleasant. They weren't blow me away friendly or talkative, but they did a good job. - My gin and tonic with a slice of cucumber was nice! (They carry Bombay Sapphire and not Gordons!) - My fried mixed dumpling were a hit. Everyone on the table enjoyed their meal. Nice to eat something different for a change. - Interior is decorated nicely. It offers a nice and cozy atmophere of being in a living room. For the second time in a row, the service is really bad, one of the waitress from lunchtime did not only forgot to give my change back, she also made a face when I asked her about it, and when she returned it, not even a word was said. The Datscha is a great Russian restaurant. It's always on our list when visiting Berlin. It's a relaxed place with good drinks and nice Russian food. This time we arrived in the late afternoon and started of with some beers and long-drinks a a round of card games. Then we continued with a lovely simple dinner that was really stuffing. We picked out Datscha for an original Russian breakfast, which we'd never eaten before. It's in a really nice area of Friedrichshain, so after breakfast we went on a little shopping spree. We ordered the workers & farmers breakfast for two which was nice. It wasn't the best breakfast i've ever eaten but it at least it wasn't cliche and it was definitely more than enough for two! Service was maybe a bit slow but the place itself was like a very clean but quirky living room so that was cool. I love this place! It's affordable and the kitchen stays open pretty late. If you're unfamiliar with Russian food, the combination appetizer is a great way to start your meal (and comes with vodka)! Every tour book has Gorki park. Well, this is pretty much the same, but in a way cooler area. Although I do like some parts of Mitte, I've stayed away because it just gets way too over crowded and just not my style. The pierogies are great. I have the Soljanka. I've had a few coffees here. Besides that, I can't review the other stuff. It's always busy with people who enjoy the spacious ambiance and the on-going bustle of a F'schainer life. The brunch is supposedly nice, but I haven't been to it. I recommend you should go if you're into something on the side of quirky and different than the norm. However, in the region, you won't be at a loss for choices. read more

We were there for Sunday buffet, which started at 10 am. If you want to get a good place outside at the terrace, you must go there at about 11 am or earlier, as they don't take reservation. The café is located at a good place and very cozy decorated.The buffet costed 11,40EUR and was great with about 40+ different Russian snacks/dishes. It was a good opportunity for us to try Russian dishes. We spent more than three hours there. I will definitely visit the café again. read more
