I would steer clear of this place. Went to try and use my Groupon and immediately was basically yelled at by the employee to hurry and decide what we wanted to eat because she needed to clean and close the kitchen. After we hastily chose a sandwich, she grabbed the ingredients from under the counter and slammed them one by one on the counter. This was followed up by her huffing and puffing and saying Groupon didn't print to arrive before 6, and that we could call for a refund if we wanted because they've been giving a lot of refunds. Wow, I don't blame anyone for getting a refund, I'm awaiting my call back to receive my refund. We left without even eating. Never will return to this establishment. read more

Great coffee and panini's . I have had several options off the panini menu and they are all flavorful and fresh. My favorite is still the turkey with pesto. Delicious! Great for lunch or an early dinner. They also offer a case full of authentic cheeses and a wine selection. The coffee is great too. I have only had lattes . They also offer regular brewed coffee, which you can buy by the beans as well. Ambiance has that of a local coffee shop, so it's a no frills joint. Random wall coverings, sofa, local business cards and the typical coffee shop music. Defiantly recommended . read more

I have never written a yelp review before, but felt compelled to do so after my distasteful experience here. I used to love cafeexpresso, but will probably never come here again. First off, the man making our food (a bald middle-aged man) lied to us about the availability of bread, and offered to instead make our paninis on a croissant (which would have been half the amount of food). He told us that the panini bread would take 20min to be ready. After we told him we would wait for the bread, he immediately took out the panini bread that they apparently "didn't have" and started working on our sandwiches. Then, when he brought us the food, he practically threw our plates on the table. I realized that my sandwich had cheese even though I specifically asked for it without cheese since I'm lactose intolerant, so I politely reminded him that I specified no cheese. He then glared at me, grabbed my plate, and stormed off. When he passed by again I reminded him that I had also originally ordered a mushroom spread. He glared at me again, and turned around and walked away without saying a word. He came off as extremely disrespectful and ruined any kind of pleasant vibe the place had to offer. Fantastic paninis! We had the Terra, the Genovese, and the Boscaiolo. Roasted red peppers, eggplant, zucchini, artichoke spread and provolone on the Terra, turkey and fresh pesto on the Genovese; and turkey with truffles on the Boscaiolo, they were all on deliciously thin and fresh focaccia! read more

Delicious espresso. Beautiful women behind the counter. The only thing that I wasn't impressed with was the second hand baked goods. Not that it would stop me from coming back by any means, though. For the second time in not long enough, I walked into Starbucks and had a moment of clarity that there was an independent coffeeshop not fat away. Wooh! That was close! I really love the espresso and drinks here. Today I tried the iced chai for the first time and it was creamy, flavorful and delicious. The barista was very nice and quick. While I don't really care for the food (I got a homemade pizza a few weeks back that was cold and soggy in the middle), the place stays true to its name! When you step into the coffee house, you feel like you have stepped into another world. You will find the decor very homey and cozy. You can curl up on a couch to sample a book from the library while sipping your coffee. You can read a complimentary newspaper lying around. You can surf the internet through free WiFi access. You can enjoy a delectable panini for lunch (I recommend the Caprese #9). You can sign up for Italian or Spanish lessons. You can take cooking classes on site. You can even book a trip to Italy. The food is great. The cappucino is terrific. The service is personal. In sum, Cafespresso brings a full Italian coffee shop experience to you without the jetlag of a trip across the pond. I live nearby and come to Caffespresso often to have coffee and study. I love it! It is a great small business and I much prefer coming here to large chain coffee shops. I also love the cozy atmosphere. The coffee is delicious and they also have good pastries and italian paninis. I would definitely recommend this place for studying, lunch or breakfast, a quick coffee and snack with friends, or to get coffee to-go. I have always found the staff and owners to be very friendly and accommodating. read more

This place is awesome. I would say a hidden gem, but it's got a good following so I don't think it's all that hidden! I am always looking for a good cup of coffee. Not really a review but a comment/ question. I bought the groupon which is only good after 3 or for Sunday Brunch. Went in last night at 6:15pm and was asked what we needed. Table for two which she then responded with "we are closing at 7 and I am shutting the kitchen down in 10 minutes". I said the menu says 8:30pm closing, to which she said to check the blackboard out front. Are we to drive over everyday to see what time they will be open til on any given day? She was neither polite nor rude just did not seem to care. I see that most of the reviews here are positive so I guess I will find out when I use the groupon, or I may ask for a refund and forget the place. There are way too many places in Richmond too worry about this one. read more

Not at all impressed. Sandwich aka panini was bland, the chips were stale & the beverage so so. Overpriced imported goods as well which appear to have different prices depending on who knows what. Worst of all though was the unbelievable & ridiculously rude attitude of the "barista" who appears to have been the owner. Took several minutes for my order to be taken, this despite the fact that I walked up to register as another customer was finishing up. The owner just walked away & there I stood for several minutes waiting to be waited upon. Perhaps it was the groupon coupon I had? Perhaps it was that I am not from the area? Perhaps because I am not a regular? I have no idea & quite frankly, it doesn't really matter. A customer is a customer is a customer. In my line of work, I treat all of my clients with respect and the utmost courtesy. Here I did not feel that at all. The place has a cluttered, snobbish, elitist vibe. Not as large as a selection as other reviews give the impression of. I was anticipating a much warmer and friendlier welcome. Give me my Starbucks any day over that kind of an attitude. I wanted a sandwich & a warm beverage, not a best friend. Nonetheless I didn't need to be treated like the red headed stepchild. Not worth it in my opinion. I'll go elsewhere. read more

I cannot say enough what a gem Caffespresso is to the Richmond community, particularly the west end. In a time when it is more than important to support our locally owned small businesses, I am happy to be a cheerleader for this unique, charming, friendly, welcoming establishment with the absolute best coffee outside of Italy! Caffespresso's owner strives (and succeeds) to create an environment that is as similar as possible to experiencing cafe life in Italy. He should know since he is Italian himself! His offerings include the perfect coffee blend (strong, rich, bold, not bitter and burned tasting like so many others), delicious panini (made on homemade focaccia bread), filling salads, tasty pastries, and specially selected Italian wines and beer. Caffespresso also offers interesting cultural events, like music on the weekends, Italian classes, and even organized trips to Italy! It is a community library of sorts, with a large bookshelf stocked with all kinds of books for customers to take with them and even leave one of their own. I have seen many children come in and stay very entertained with the childrens' books on the shelf. I have found the atmosphere to be more than welcoming and always interesting. There is a true European feel, and it's fun to come in to hear conversations in Italian on any given day! Oh, did I mention the pizza? Yum!!
