After having had some unpleasant encounters with globalizing Czech, i.e. getting groase coffees where previously you could rely on some kind of decent caffeine-brew, or msg-spiked instant sauces and supermarket knoedlik instead of the real thing. So bad, that I would have settled for Starbucks, and gladly so. (Don't get me wrong, Starbucks is at least drinkable stuff, it just ain't got no local flavour, it's soulless.)
So along the Colonada towards the actual spring, off the promenade to the left I saw the "Illy" sign at the "Sun Cafe" and though I prefer the local colrits to international brands, at least that would be an enjoyable cup of Latte.
Well, we were five and agree about one thing:
If this is coffee marketed by "Illy" (and if anyone is associated with that company, let them send someone to look into this), then my grandfather is from Borneo and Illy will be bankrupt in a year. I have no idea, did they use the same coffee a second time? Was it coffe from before the iron curtain lifted?
Whatever, basically we were seriously cheated at three Euro a glass, a tiny glass that is, less than 200ml.
The cake was a mistake too, you could have guessed, industrial crap, looking posh, consisting of stabilizers and outrageous ammounts of sugar, at two Euro a tiny piece. Best before 2049.
I have no idea whether trying to wander off into the side streets of this tiny bohemian city-center would yield you any better results, but if it hadn't been for the splendid sunshine I might have made a scene.
