We will not be coming back to this location the lady serving today was rude to my boyfriend when he asked for some condiments for our food and then she shorted us a lemonade at this point he was so upset he just walked out. The food is good enough to question it being healthy but it's so simple it's hard to argue. Sometimes I question why I should pay as much for a bowl of food I can easily make at home but then again if I made more food at home I wouldn't be much of a Yelper. Well the food was served cold and we brought to the attention of the waitress. Her response was well what should I do? When she checked with the manager, we were told that they keep all the stuff in one big pot. I'm a little concerned that big pot is not maintaining food safe temperatures. They did microwave our dinner and bring it back to us. Pretty disappointed since I was very excited to bring my husband here for the first time. Not sure will be back. Over-rated and overpriced. Here's the deal: People will claim that the food here is all fresh, healthy, vegetarian, and therefore awesome, but they can't see the forest for the trees. The Yumm sauce (which is admittedly tasty) is NOT healthy--it's just like any other fatty dressing/sauce dumped on foods. Everyone raving about how healthy the food is needs a wakeup call: you guys sound like people who order a salad and feel proud of themselves for eating something so healthy when they've drowned it in ranch dressing. Please stop and think about it... Next, it is very, very overpriced for what you are getting. In addition to being formulaic and not very creative, the Yumm bowls are made up mostly of 2 of the Poor Man's favorite diet staples (I would know!), beans and rice. When I go out to eat I like to get something that I can't easily/quickly make at home, something more creative, or something more delicious... I'm sure most people are in the same boat. But at Cafe Yumm, it IS something you could easily make at home for just a tiny fraction of the price, and since there's no imagination to their bowls, you're only paying for the name. You could throw the same thing together at home in no time, and you're probably more creative than the folks at Cafe Yumm, so you could spice it up too. It's boring and flavorless. I hate this place! I can't figure out why people love this place so much. Let me explain my reasoning and experience so you can all better understand my hatred. So, a friend of mine and I went there once for lunch. It was a beautiful day in Eugene, springtime. Anything would have made us happy being that we were in a perfect and tolerant state-of-mind. So, we walked in, waited in line, where I asked for a recommendation, only to be shunned as if I were asking secret details to the company's not-so-secret recipe. I then proceeded to order a medium size 'yum' bowl, as did my friend. We also shared a chicken stick. If you are a fan of this crappy food, the next sentence is disturbing, you've been warned. The food is over-hyped, under-portioned, over-priced, and under-whelmingly bland.... the place sucks, period. Please STOP supporting this crap. Everyone seems to love it, so this is an uphill battle, but hey! maybe there are enough people out there who agree. Ban together, unite, and spend your money elsewhere. read more

My friend raved about Café Yumm on numerous occasions, and I have to admit, I had my doubts. I couldn't find many pictures of the place on Yelp, but from the reviews I read, these little spots were, indeed, good and reasonably priced. She said it's a good choice if you're looking for a lighter option for dinner without breaking the bank. The funny thing was, after going to this Café Yumm location for the first time, I noticed many more restaurant signs all over Eugene for Café Yumm. It's great to know that they have multiple locations; my first experience there was wonderful, so I'll definitely be back. At first, my friend didn't know if this particular location closed because the restaurant looked dark (from the outside) when we pulled up to the little parking lot. However, we were relieved to see that it was open -- this Café Yumm just shares the space with several other little stores. There's a small seating area by the restaurant, so you can enjoy your Yumm bowls right there. I didn't get a chance to ingest everything on the menu, but Café Yumm reminded me of a healthier version of Chipotle. You could create your own "Yumm bowl" or choose one of the pre-set menu items. My friend really likes Café Yumm because of the housemade Yumm sauce, which is slightly tangy and could function well as a salad dressing. They even sell that famous Yumm sauce at the counter, in addition to an array of baked goods. There was soon a line of people behind us waiting to order, so my friend and I made our decisions quickly and our food was brought out to us in no time. There's so much you could order at Café Yumm, and I really enjoyed the fresh flavors of the bowl. I'll definitely be back! Here's what we got: "Baby Yumm": I'm not quite sure if this is the exact name of what I ordered, but I know I ordered the Yumm bowl on the menu that came without beans. Every bowl seems to come with tomatoes, beans, avocado, olives, Jasmine rice, cheese and that famous Yumm sauce. I got the bowl without black beans cause I don't really care for beans, and I also got mine without tomatoes. I also thought this was a good option because it came with extra avocado. I ordered the smallest size of this bowl because I was still slightly full from lunch earlier that day, but it ended up being the perfect dinner option. I love the taste and texture of Jasmine rice, so I really enjoyed this component of the bowl. I also enjoyed the avocado and olives, as well as the shredded cheese. But the highlight of this bowl (and probably all the other bowls) was truly the Yumm sauce. I don't know what it's made with, but it was phenomenal. It does sport a slightly tangy taste, but it was really good! It was light in flavor, too, so it wasn't overwhelmingly tart. Maybe next time I'll actually purchase one of those Yumm sauce bottles and take it home with me ... it was definitely noteworthy! "Original Yumm Bowl": My friend got the original option, which basically included all the toppings in my bowl, plus the beans. She got the smallest sized bowl as well and said this is what she ordered during her first trip to Café Yumm ... and she never deviates from this order because it's a classic. She recommends the original/basic option for anyone who's never been to Café Yumm before. "BBQ Tofu Skewers": If I were not getting one of the Yumm bowls, this is probably what I would have opted for. I was eyeing the skewers in the display case and they definitely looked yummy, especially with the BBQ glaze on top. "Chocolate-Dipped Chocolate Chip Cookies": There was an assortment of cookies in the display case as well, and I probably would have ordered one if we weren't going to Sweet Life Patisserie right after dinner! Though I do enjoy gingerbread and snickerdoodle cookies, those chocolate chip cookies were gigantic and were calling my name ... and, better yet, they were coated with a layer of chocolate on half of the cookie. Before ordering, I would check to see if the cookies were soft in texture, since I prefer chewy cookies over crunchy cookies. But if these cookies are indeed soft and a little more doughy, I'll be sure to get one during my next visit. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I have been eating at Yumm's since I was a teenager, so there has been years of dining experience behind this review. I'm going to break this review down into locations, and then by food. I've dined at all of the Cafe Yumm locations, and I'm not sure why there is a difference in food quality in these separate locations, considering this company franchises and has a pretty clear blueprint of food recipes. The Willamette Street location is my favorite location. The food there is consistent and I feel as though I like the food there better. The area inside the Meridian building is always clean, inviting, and I love the use of the seating spaces. You can choose to sit right in the middle of the atrium between all the shops and stare at all the passerby's, or sit tucked in the back area where you can shovel food into your mouth without the wary eyes of passerby's judging you. The location on Franklin street is by far my least favorite. The food is the least pleasant to me, and I'm not sure why that is. I went to this location last night and ordered a large baby yumm, with a teriyaki chicken stick. First of all the portion size of a large baby yumm and a medium baby yumm are the same....so you're paying for more but getting the same amount? I would suggest maybe soliciting two sizes possibly, rather than three. The rice was not hot, so the yumm sauce and the cheese sat atop my cold bed of rice and not mixing together easily. The rice tasted a bit old, like it had been sitting out for awhile. Maybe turning over the rice, or making more batches of rice more frequently might solve that problem. I enjoy the Yumm's in the Oakway Center, even though they have mad lunch rushes, I feel like they do a quality job at maintaing the freshness of their ingredients. The secret to the success of Cafe Yumm is the sauce, the simplicity and healthiness of their dishes, but I fear that their franchisees are not all holding up their end of the bargain in maintaining that level of quality which was once so enjoyable. read more

Cafe' Yuck makes me sick, both literally and figuratively. The food is poor, the service is indifferent, the prices are high, the imagination is low. You would be hard pressed to find a worse place for the money if you tried...and you should try anywhere else. If you are a veg-head and you're that hard up for a place to eat, I suggest Laughing Planet, PRI, Ratatouille, or even KFC. Cafe Yumm is supposed to be delicious and healthy?? I'm not impressed, won't be back after I learned how many calories I just consumed. Pros: - Lots of vegan/vegetarian options - Natural, organic ingedients - People evidently like smothering their healthy food in fat-laden nut sauce, so if you like that sort of thing, this is where to get it. (Or save some money and guzzle some cheap satay sauce straight from the bottle!) Cons: - I know many people love it, but I'm not a fan of the Yumm sauce. I found it too sour, and just the few tablespoons in a medium bowl add 300 (!!!) calories!! That's as much as a cheeseburger! - Shocking amount of calories. Might as well have a burger, fries and a milkshake, because a medium original bowl contains over 800 (!!) calories and most of your daily allowance of fat. I only learned about the calories after having eaten the bowl, and feel completely disgusted now. - Overpriced read more

With all the hype from hippies all over Eugene, I had to try it at least once. Turned out I tried it for 3 times at different locations. All 3 times, I asked myself why would anyone pay so much for so little. Their dishes all use very simple ingredients. Serving size is small, which is actually perfect for me since I don't eat a lot, but the price is way too high for the portion. I had the nori wrap, the yumm bowl, and some salad and a sandwich of some sort. Nori wrap: It is like a small appetizer. They gave me 5 small pieces of Nori for $5.95. $2.5 more for another 5 small pieces. I didn't know seaweed was that expensive. Yumm Bowl: A better version of HodgePodge's original wrap. Nothing to brag about. The yumm sauce is ok. Don't quite understand how hippies got so addicted to the sauce, but then again, I also don't get why hippies love to get stoned all the tiem. Salad and Sanwich of some sort: A salad and a sandwich like the ones you can get at any cafe. Only they are about 30% more expensive. I love fresh food, but fresh tomatoes, cilantro, advocado, black bean..etc are very common ingredients. Why Cafe Yumm can charge so much for so little is beyond my understadning. read more

I recently had lunch at Cafe Yumm and was surprised to see burly construction-type dudes there. Not that I couldn't imagine these guys wanting a healthy lunch, but because there's no way in hell that this somewhat spendy lunch could've filled them up. Because for $7.50, a bowl with some greats, about 20 black beans, rice, sauce and a little cheese didn't come close to satisfying me. The third star is for being a great community member. I l-o-v-e the hot and jazzy yummm bowl, but I always get the salsa on the side, because its too hot for me to eat. I dip my fork in it, then eat a bite of rice. That is perfect! With more and more of them opening, though, I've noticed a climb in prices, a decrease in service. It is unfortunate. I do hope they start franchising in Idaho though. I have family there who would eat yumm bowls 2x/day while they're visiting if I let them. It is weird though. Some people think Yumm sauce is gross. Just fair warning. I just got back home to Pacifica after 10 great days in Eugene visiting my family there. I walked all over that wonderful city, got to know it a lot better and have really developed an appreciation for all it has to offer. I could go on and on but will force myself to focus . . . other reviews of adventures in Eugene will follow. After watching all the Presidential candidates in Iowa eating things like fried butter and all, I was determined that if they had such things at the Lane County Fair which I attended while I was there, that I would break several of my general rules of what I eat and partake. It was a county fair after all. Isn't it almost traditional that we can eat badly there and it's somehow okay? I didn't tell my family that while I was strolling through the carnival, and even when I was on the ferris wheel that I was scouting the area for the booth that specialized in deep frying things most of us never thought of plunging into hot oil. Then I spotted the place . . . and long before I actually approached them I saw that although they didn't have fried butter, they DID have fried Twinkies, Snickers, Oreos as well as fried Coke and Dr. Pepper! I quickly convinced myself that one of those would do just fine. But then, as I stood in line, I could feel my determination waning and was having quite a conversation with myself about paying hard earned money for such atrocities, feeling elated and embarrassed at the same time. And then, I decided not to rush things and to stroll a bit more . . . It was then that I turned and saw that Cafe Yumm had a booth at the fair!!! I had just been introduced to them a few days before, had been back a second time and and was already in love with the place. The place is clean, the staff is really friendly and the food is fantastic. The Yumm bowls are, to me, almost like one of the great wonders of the world, the burrito. You have all this healthy, beautiful, flavorful food in one bowl instead of packed inside a tortilla but the idea is the same. So seeing them was like bumping into an old friend just when you need them most. All fell into place for me at that very instant. I walked right over and ordered a Hot and Jazzy and when she handed me that steaming, fragrant bowl of all things good, well, I could now stroll without shame. Because of that lunch I was able to enjoy the rest of my day at the fair and was able to get around without assistance which I am sure I would have needed if I had filled my self with fried whatever! Yumm sauce is a rich vegetarian topping that is good on rice, beans , salads, chips, and is the star ingredient at cafe yumm. My favorite is the chipolte yumm rice/bean bowl that can vary depending on the toppings that you order. They also have a couple of soups, and several sandwiches. read more

I really love Cafe Yumm. However, I will tell you that it is an acquired taste. In my experience, you either love it or you hate it. And for some reason, it seems like more women like it than men, I have no idea why. My favorite is the original Yumm bowl with brown rice, black beans, the addictive yumm sauce, avocado and cheese - I get it without tomatoes, olives, cilantro and sour cream because I just don't like them, but those are included also. You can easily make this vegan if you wish by removing the cheese and sour cream. Also, you can add chicken if you want, but I have never done that and I can't vouch for it. The yumm sauce is sooo good - of course it is, it has 14 grams of fat per tablespoon! It's made from canola oil, garlic, yeast, and some other secret stuff (I'm pretty sure, I'm relying on my memory from about a year ago, so I might not be 100% accurate) Anyway, if you are vegetarian or vegan, or just appreciate a veg meal now and then, give this a try! On the other hand, if you are a meat and potatoes type...you might not like it. For example, my Dad, who says that it's not a meal if it doesn't have meat? I would never take him here. read more

Cafe Yumm is great. I love the tofu so much but sometimes it's not cooked very well and is watery and cold. But when it's good, it's good. They used to ask if I wanted a large or small portion but some times they do and sometimes they don't. ??? Not sure what the rule is about this. I go here quite a bit and is common for ingredients to be missing. It really sucks to be charged extra for tofu, get home and it's missing. They repeat it back as you order, and it's on the receipt. I don't know why this happens so much. Extra training and check your work please! I like the option of making a bowl vegan with cabbage and carrots if I'm not feeling dairy. It's wonderful that they make so many substitutions but please please please get it right!! Chicken and tempeh did not taste good. Tried them a while ago and will never order again. Chicken tasted old or something. I've heard this from friends too. When my family come to visit, this is the first place they want to go eat lunch at. They have an addicting sauce, beware! Seriously, if they sold it by the gallon, I'd likely buy it in bulk!! They carry protein items to add to the side of your yumm bowl, salad etc. I like the BBQ Tempeh sticks. Their ginger cookies are amazing. Soft, bitey and covered in sugar. My fave bowl is the yumm deluxe with edamame. I try to balance the 3,000 calories of my extra sauce with some extra protein. Yea, it's working so far! read more

On my way home from school today I was thinking about dinner & for some reason Cafe Yumm popped into my head. Now I can't stop thinking about it, and I'm craving it soooooo bad. Since I can't eat it, figured I'd do the next best thing YELP IT! This past summer I took a summer school session at the University of Oregon. Eugene is such a pedestrian friendly area! I found this place as I was exploring. Extremely glad I went with my hunch to try it out, I ended up eating there almost every other day! The friendly workers practically memorized my order. Perfect for lunch or dinner. The spot is geared towards a vegetarian menu, and don't get me wrong..I love my meat! But this place was good enough to temporarily give it up. Plus I don't like eating toooo heavy all the time. I tried a couple of the soups which were good, but the main reason to go is for the YUMM bowls. I normally ordered the small size which was the perfect portion for me, but if I was extra hungry I got a medium. The bows basically consist of yummy shredded cheddar cheese, fresh diced tomatoes, delicious avocado slices, & dollops of sour cream. Sounds good already right? They also come with black olives and cilantro, but I don't prefer either. :] I tried a few of their dishes but stuck with one... their ORIGINAL SIGNATURE DISH, the "secret original yumm sauce" is TO DIE FOR! & it's the perfect consistency, not too soupy like some of the other dishes. I don't think sauces are normally considered staples..but in this case it is the STAPLE to the dish! Now you wonder how someone could get full without the meat? They still find a way to get you full with some protein! Yummy organic black beans and brown rice! The combination of all of these ingredients together is ORGASMIC.
