Millies Bakery Cafe - Great ambience, comfortable seating, good alfresco area

There is a daily special available, coffee & cake, at a very good price. Also a breakfast and lunch menu is available. I enjoyed a very well prepared, cheese and ham croissants, with a good Latte. The service was good, the seats comfortable, all very relaxing as I sat inside looking out at a large new raised deck, alfresco area, raining today but nice on a fine day.

It's like a warm hug. I usually get a coffee (which of course comes with a wee biscuit), a toasted ham and cheese croissant (sometimes two), and a sweet somethin - often a custard tart or a slice of apricot or blueberry pie. If I've got time to sit down, the pie comes with fresh cream. The staff aren't always the friendliest bunch, but it doesn't bother me much. They're quick and professional at what they do. The cafe is always clean, although it is a little dark but it's a warm darkness, like the inside of a hug. The car park is another massive positive for this place (car parking in Mt Barker is an ongoing battle) it's big and there's plenty of turning room. I'm always able to get a park. A bakery that's like a professional dark hug, with a big car park. What's not to like?

I think that a lot of people drive past on their way to wineries, but they should really stop for a coffee. It is just the cutest cottage. A few different rooms and you will find the café part in the middle room. What I really love about this place is all the little hidden room dining areas. There are range of take away options for lunch or dinner for the family. Some super tasty looking stews, pasta and salads. Wow! All decently priced and a great healthy alternative then going out for takeaway. I look forward to return to eat some lunch. On this visit my guest and I tried the Lemon Polenta and the Pecan cake. Both were very moist, full of flavour, and not too sweet. Which is perfect by my books. The coffee is a strong and robust. Lovely blend and great barista. You couldn't have asked for anything better on a cold rainy day! I think I might become a regular as a resident of the Hills! I am looking forward to warming up near their open fireplace.

As is often the case, I'm glad I was wrong. Little did I know a quirky little cafe is the perfect replacement for a redundant service station! So far I've only had coffee, but based on the experience of our group the overall customer experience is great! Our coffees (and one iced chocolate) came out really promptly and were top notch (and very affordable somehow). We opted to sit out the back, a great choice for a bright, warm hills Autumn morning. It feels like being out the back of my Nanna's house (retro table and all) only no one is yelling at me through the back window about the football scores.. which is good I guess, for a cafe anyway.

And the day is bright and warm and it's all perfect. As we stroll, we are invited be to have lunch at Blacksmith Hahndorf and we decide to give it a go. Well, the setting was authentic - a fantastic mix of traditional blacksmith tools and equipment as decor while comfortable and homely. We were catered to with nuanced detail and the young man that ushered us to our table also promptly brought us table water with chilled glasses. We went for a beer and gourmet German Sausage with German beer and it was fantastic! They brought us stubbies again with chilled glasses (this has only really happened in Europe) and the meal was composed perfectly! Now consider this, we basically had a German hotdog and a beer but the experience was awesome, and the meal was both filling and bursting with flavours. For two people's lunch and for less than $40 we had a great meal and an experience to brag about. We're sure you'll have the same experience!
