Amazing food, awesome atmosphere, great view. Hummus plate was delicious, healthy and a work of art. Scallops were very well cooked and it tasted great with the crispy leafy greens. Fish tacos were pretty good. The beans on the side was a bit awkward and out of place since we didn't use it to stuff our tacos. The ricotta cheesecake was divine. Light and delicious. The chocolate hazelnut torte was very dark chocolate, but still creamy and paired with a really delicious vanilla ice cream. Food was absolutely delicious. Leave room for dessert! read more

CAFE ML Bloomfield Twn. I had the opportunity to eat at ML this weekend. I was very impressed overall. High quality food with an outstanding choice of foods to choose from. The services was outstanding both at the bar and at the tables. Overall an excellent experience. Even though it is in a very high end strip mall when you entered you were taken away by the place. Needed to find some place near Country Day and this place seemed like the best bet. Overall it was a good choice and I'd go back. Ambiance was nice and liked the emphasis local sourcing. Had the Frankenmuth Hef Weizen on draft. It was an early dinner so we ate light. I had the fattoush salad which was very good. My mother had the ribs. She complained about the string beans (too oily) but she didn't complain about the ribs so I assume they were good. The kale salad was very good according to my wife. The mango/shrimp ceviche was just so-so. Not the worst ceviche we've had but we wouldn't order it again. Soup selection was disappointing, just two choices -- a squash/apple bisque and a soup of the day (cream of mushroom) -- so we didn't get any. They have a limited kids menu but it's a real menu which is nice (not chicken fingers & mac/cheese kind of thing). Of course if your kids are picky and insist on typical kids menu type things, this is not the place for them. My kids opted for the veggie/hummus plate. I tasted it and it was very garlicky to the point of being spicy just from the garlic. I was a little surprised my youngest didn't complain about it. He doesn't take spiciness well (even pepperoni is usually too much for him). But he ate most of it. All in all a good choice if you are in the area. read more

Amazing across the board !! The restaurant is zen and trendy, you forget your at Maple & Lasher (hence Cafe ML). Fabulous location !! but when they say its a 2 hour wait, it really is a full 2 hours. The seating is cool, theres high booths that are open on both sides, so you don't feel smushed in. There's porch seating also !! and a bar - which i loved. So its pretty good for being alone, 2 ppl,4 or more. Larger party youll def have to wait longer. FOOD CRIPSY BRUSSEL SPROUTS - this spot crushes it !! they are not overly or if even deep fried, BIG PLUS !! and they are made with SIRACHA - yum yum spicy!! Hummus ML - also fabulous, has a little flare, comes with a solid mix of veggies, you can tell its all REALLY FRESH !! It may be in a strip mall, but don't let that deceive you. From the moment you walk in, it has great atmosphere and a nice sized bar. I love the chalkboard, the open kitchen and I can't believe I am mentioning this, but yes the touches such as you don't have to touch the bathroom door,(it is automatic with a swoosh of your hand) and why don't more restrooms have this feature? The staff is very inviting, they are wonderful! They truly care if you are enjoying your libation, glass of wine or how your dinner is prepared. Speaking of the food, it is delicious and consistent. I really can't find anything to complain about at Cafe ML. Their tacos's are excellent, I love the beautiful hummus plate. The pork is outstanding. I can't say I have ever had anything bad here. The menu seems a little funky when you sit down, but after a few minutes you start to "get it". This is not your father's cozy cafe! This is Hipster City, featuring unique, off the beaten path entrees and interesting sides. ML is almost a tour d'force of the world, with tasty dishes from all around the globe! Understand that I am a senior citizen and was accompanied by four of my college frat brothers - who are not youngsters either. The ambiance and multi-faceted menu was new and different to all five of us. Since old guys can say and do practically anything without remorse or reticence, we all cracked jokes and were enthusiastically entertaining the waitress, the maître d' and other staff - as we continued to entertain one another! But, I digress. You can start off your adventure with some tasty soup. Miso (Japan) is smooth and filled with Shitakes and Tofu. An unusual soup d'jour is also available. A variety of salads take you from Upper Michigan to the Middle East. Or, China could be your destination with a large, entree-sized salad. The delicious Burgers come in beef, lamb and veggie. I tried the Lamburger (that's fun to say, as well as to eat!). An Italian-sounding favorite, Turkey Bolgnese, even comes with Gluten-free pasta upon request! Singapore Street Noodles, Jerk Shrimp, and a variety of tacos help round out your world tour. Of course, no hipster meal would ever be complete without a large selection of beer, wine and mixed drinks. Just had an amazing meal tonight. Started off with the Brussel sprouts that were absolutely delicious. Definitely would come back just for them. Our server, Jenna was awesome. Very upbeat and very attentive. She made some great suggestions and was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. I had the blackened fish tacos that were very flavorful. My one friend had the ribs and they were right on point. So good. Other friend had the blackened shrimp noodle bowl and loved it. Great dining experience over all. Will be back. read more

This is a hidden gem in my opinion I've been here about 5/6 times and have a great experience every time, staff is nice and knowledgeable, atmosphere is perfect doesn't seem this way on the inside being part of a strip mall but it's so romantic and intimate inside with low lighting, smaller booths, small menu with specials. The drinks are really great too craft trendy cocktails you know Birmingham like. I had a pear martini of sorts YUM and my bf had the gin riveter or something with rosemary DOUBLE yum. I usually get the kung pao here is pretty good or their pasta my friend got the tacos last time and said they were good but small so be prepared. All in all must try read more

WOW. This is honestly one of THE BEST dining experiences in our 2 years in Michigan. Food is absolutely spot on. Gourmet food with attention to detail in all aspects. The servie was wonderful as well. All around perfect. Walked right in on a Sunday night with no wait. I had the smoked salmon salad. She had the Scallop special, but with a twist. They sold out of the original scallop special and offered us a different type of seafood prepared the same way. Have not ever seen that offered. ML has wowed me with their food. The perfect way to eat there is to get the Brussels Sprouts as an appetizer along with the ML Burger as the entree. In my opinion, the burger is the best in town. It is high in flavor and rich in texture. Each bite is one of succulent satisfaction. Other than the food, the restaurant itself is contemporary and alive. We visited this restaurant a few months back, and for one that has to overcome the automatic stigma of OH GOD, IT'S IN A STRIP MALL?!? it's incredibly good! The service was right on point, and the atmosphere was really quite nice, considering their open-air wall faces 15 Mile/Maple (just east of Lahser). I heard about Cafe ML through word of mouth before it opened, and actually came here the first Saturday it was open. We liked ML so much we came here the next two Saturday's in a row. What I love the most are the Gluten free options, of which there are not that many offerings in the metro Detroit area. I really enjoy the outdoor seating, the overhead heaters keep you nice and toasty. The Buffalo Mozzarella starter is excellent. I adore the Kale Salad with manchego cheese, almonds, ham and a lemony vinagrette. Just thinking about that salad makes my mouth water. I avoid carbs and had the ML burger Go Green style with lettuce only. Like BHG, they do not take reservations. The parking lot can get crazy, its extremely busy. Service was attentive. I plan to be a regular at ML Cafe. Currently open for dinner only, lunch to be offered eventually. read more

Always terrific food and excellent customer service! We came here on a Thursday night and ordered three different entrées: the special that was the trout fillet, an Asian chicken salad and a kobe beef bowl. Every single one of them was cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. We originally started going here when they first opened and it continues to be fantastic in every way, including the quality of the food. Went to cafe ml last night and had a fabulous experience. We ordered the Korean fried chicken app and it was really delicious!!! I ordered the lamb with vegetable risotto and crumbled feta, it was one of the best lamb dishes I've had. The lamb was cooked perfectly (mid rare) and the risotto was so rich and creamy that I couldn't stop going back for it. My boyfriend ordered the ml burger and it was very juicy char broiled and the fries were nice and crispy...perfectly seasoned dish! I also asked for a jalapeño margarita and the bartender happily made it even though it wasn't on the menu! It was very tasty! Excellent food and service! Definitely recommend! read more

Had dinner here last night. Went with the Blistered Chicken which came with farro, gala apple, brussel sprout leaves, and a maple syrup based sauce. Had a little kick - lots of black pepper I think. Delicious. $21. Companion had the Singapore Street Noodles with Chicken sans cilantro. Would not get again - just personal taste, nothing wrong. $19. Each had a market salad - Arugula, Spinach, Michigan Apple, Baby Carrot, Grapefruit, Chèvre, candied Pecans, and Vanilla Bean Vinaigrette. I got without the goat cheese. Couldn't taste any vanilla beans, but grapefruit added nice acidity and moisture. Baby carrots were multi-colored and sliced horizontally - almost looked like bacon. Good salad. $8. Service outstanding. Seated right away sometime after 6 pm; when we left around 7 pm, there was a wait. read more

If this review were based solely on the food it would be closer to three stars, but, all things considered, two stars is being generous. My husband and I have come to cafe ML for drinks before, and we found it pretty decent so we decided to try it out for dinner. We arrived around 7pm on a Friday to a full bar and even fuller restaurant. The wait was quoted as being 35 minutes, but we were called to be seated after only 10 or 15. Great, I thought...boy was I wrong. We are walked back to our seat, and as we're walking I notice there are SEVERAL other tables that have been cleared primarily against the back wall and quite a few tables being cleared along the middle of the restaurant. We are sat at a table that was literally the last table in the very back of the restaurant. This table is behind the kitchen and at the very rear exit on the enclosed patio. The back door to the enclosed patio is being held together by duck tape and has a large hole in it, so that was great to look at during dinner. Not only was it the last table, but it was separate from every other table in the restaurant. The nearest table was an unused cocktail table about five feet away and another ten feet beyond that was where the remainder of the restaurant was seated. To further describe how awful this table was; it backed up to an area used for storage of extra chairs, so there were chairs being lifted and carried passed our table the entire night. The door from the kitchen to the patio was also near the table, so all night people were swinging in and out. I cannot, for the life of me, fathom why any person with common sense would think it was a good idea to put a table here. On top of that, as I stated, there were a number of other empty tables that we could have been sat at. When I got up to use the bathroom I noticed that people who'd come in before us and we're presumably waiting for tables before we checked in were sat at those other tables. Why weren't they put at the table behind the kitchen and by the exit door? I'm left to believe and feel that we were sat there for a reason. Against my requests my husband did not ask for us to be moved, and sitting there honestly ruined the entire dinner. It was cold, drafty, and incredibly insulting to be honest. The hostess even acknowledged that the table was in a bad location and goes, "well at least it's quieter back here". The food was okay, not bad but not great. I ordered a burger that was undercooked (ordered it medium+ but it came out bloody). Once it was recooked, it actually tasted okay, minus the arugula which was chewy and wet. My husband got one of the bowls and commented that the noodles were cut up, over cooked, and impossible to eat with the utensils provided. We also had an appetizer that was good, but barely enough to share between two people. I was tempted to complain to management at the end of our dinner, because it felt as though we were sat at this crappy table intentionally, but I didn't. I'm sure this restaurant gets plenty of regular customers from people in the neighborhood, and I'd bet that would sit one of their regulars at the table that we were sat at. After this experience we'll never return to Cafe ML. read more

We went here last night for my mom's birthday. Surprisingly crowded for a Tuesday night at 8:00. But didn't have to wait. Service was excellent. Super varied choices on the menu and everyone really enjoyed their food. We have some picky eaters and everyone found something to eat. Most of us were able to take home leftovers because of the portion size. A little expensive but if you eat it for two meals it's totally worth it. Will go back. All of the desserts sounded delicious but we were too full! Next time I'll try to remember to save room. read more

Went here on a weekday evening in December. Place was crowded, but not packed. Very interesting menu. We got the specials (some sort of beef / rice stir fry and arctic char, which is a salmon-like fish). Both were ok, but nothing special, and a bit overpriced (but probably normal for this area of town). We also got the brussel sprouts as an appetizer, which our server recommended. They were indeed excellent (totally creative way to prepare and cook them), and we also got some reasonably priced glasses of wine. Perhaps this place would earn 4 starts if we had chosen our dinner dishes differently? Service was good, and ambience was a bit on the noisy (festive?) side. read more

An Overpriced Yawn! Been going to this company's restaurants for years and nothing has changed for the past 5 of them; seems to be going downhill. Food leaves much to be desired (creativity and execution), as does the service and management. Nobody is very warming or friendly and the food and the company has just lost its touch. Great kind of restaurant to go to by yourself on a random weekday evening.. but if you're taking a significant other, family member, or out of towners - do yourself a favor and head to Royal Oak, Ferndale or even better: Downtown Detroit where you can leave feeling like you had an actual experience and a memorable dish. read more

My wife and I had dinner at ML on a Saturday night, 2 drinks each, and an entree each. Our check was brought to us and I glanced at it, luckily, and it was for $77, perfectly fine. I gave my CC and the check came back at $111????? I asked the waiter, that "why did my bill go from $77 to $111?" He replied, "oh that happens all the time"????? I said, You have to be kidding! I am lucky that I looked at my bill the first time , otherwise I would have tipped this waiter, approximately $50 once all the dust settled. I guess I am wondering if this is a inside scam, that the waiter's run, just in case you don't look at your bill? I wonder how many people have been duped, because "it happens all the time"? We called ML when we got home and spoke with the manager, who really didn't offer an explanation or offer something if we returned, not that we were looking for anything to be thrown our way. The manager just seemed indifferent, so we won't be eating at ML anytime soon, which is unfortunate because it is a mile from our house. The moral of the story is check your bill when the check comes to the table, instead of just handing the server your credit card, you may avoid paying out a huge, unwitting, tip. read more

Waited over 45 minutes for food when waitress arrived with candied Brussels sprouts as a substitute (don't know who told her we like Brussels sprouts since we don't) because there was some mix up in kitchen and our food was still another 20 minutes before coming out. Shrimp fried rice was soggy and French fries with hamburger were so horrible, waitress had to get another order of fries. Would not eat here again. read more

I'm very disappointed. I haven't had bad experiences here in the past. Last night we ordered an app that came out with no flavor. Our server offered a new app which was great. One minute after we got our app the entrees came out. Twenty minutes later they were going to bring out the same food that had been cooking under a heat lamp instead of making new entrees. When I asked for new entrees to be made the server tried to tell me to read the original ones. They did make new entrees but it took another 15 minutes or so for them to arrive. Nobody from management came to our table to ask about our experience. That is terrible customer service. I will not be back again. read more

Lively Saturday night...hostess was friendly and we didn't mind the wait. Unfortunately we were sat on the patio, which being my first time here I assumed it would be warm and heated...But....it was a cold windy night and the patio was uncomfortably cold. I wore my jacket during dinner....as did the rest of my 6 top table. Not a pleasant experience. My chicken entree was good...not worth the price. Service was decent, but not excellent.
