This is the brother/sister/gender fluid relative of Cafe Krem on Hill street or about a 5 minute walk apart. It's the same coffee committed owner(s).
I've been in the Hill street location quite a number of times but it's my first visit here to the Mall. It's one of the last streets in our over 1,000 year old town that still has cobbled granite stones as the road surface. Imagine the daft civil servants who removed them in other parts of the town to put down tarmac - tarmac is fine if it's maintained but they don't spend money on maintenance until the roads are in a very poor state. Granite requires no maintenance.
The coffees are ace here too and priced around £2.5 for most of the selection, and there's some cracking soup and sandwich deals. Unlike the fast food joints the food here is freshly made daily and darn good quality.
My visit was accidental. I was walking for a bus - most people seem to run for the bus or the train but I make time - better looking at it than looking for it.
I toyed with the idea of going to Hill street Krem but was too bloody lazy to bother. When I arrived for the bus I was quite early and suddenly I realised there was a Krem on the Mall - 5 minutes away over a footbridge crossing the river that flows through the centre of our town.
It was still before 8am and I was pleased to find it open with a few customers already slurping.
My take away flat white (£2.5) was superb, now all I needed was a bus. read more
