Red beans, collards and cabbage

I went for Sunday brunch, which is $24.99 per person. They advertise that you get a carafe of mimosa but you actually only get 1 included in the price. Then you can buy a carafe for $15. Brunch was also advertised to have a DJ but there was no DJ, just a playlist running. Additionally the brunch is supposed to be from 11a-3p. We arrived at 11:06a and had to wait until 12 noon for some of the food to be brought out. Although, it is all you can eat, you do not serve yourself. I suggest that no one show up until at least 1p because we left around 1p and they were still bringing out different dishes. Apparently the owner/chef does not start cooking all the items until they open and you must plan to spend the entire 4 hours there in order to get a chance to sample everything they are preparing for the day. Despite all those negatives and a few more, I still give this place 3 stars because of the service and owner. They are genuinely nice people and you can tell that they love what they do. But they can improve on the aesthetics of the place and timeliness.

Upon arrival parking was a breeze , entry was a bit embarrassing. Lady at the front insisted that I only purchased an entry ticket. When indeed I paid for a table. Literally saw my name in all caps on the list on her podium. The owner however, was quickly available saw the dilemma and walked me and my husband to our table. He also informed us about the patio area and glad the suggestion was made, it is a total vibe. The waitresses were very attentive and on top of our request. My husband ordered the fish and fries , there were no words soooooo tell the chef great job! The artist tho, I was in awe with each performance but that band that was there ........ cmon doc it was too much to contain they really did more than I could take amazing work. The lounge was nice, seating is great , u can see the stage from every part of the club. I celebrated my bday this night and it is one for the books. Thank you all for your wonderful service.

New Wed night Salsa Venue

Strictly Street Salsa has recently been hosting a new weekly Wednesday night salsa dancing at Cafe 4212. I have attended it two weeks in row & I am now totally hooked! Cafe 4212 is located inner city off Alameda road. Street parking is available on both sides of Alameda. There is a dedicated security guard that walks back & fourth watching over cars parked on the street. No cover charge, and upon your first Yelp checkin, you get a $5 off a premium beverage, not a bad start eh? Raul Edwards, director of strictly street salsa, makes a tremendous effort introducing new comers to the rest of the group. Such a warm and welcoming host, breaking the ice & making everyone feel at home, no other salsa venue does that for the record. Place starts to get busy ~ 9 pm as DJ begins playing Timba, Salsa, Bachata, Merengue tunes. There is a spacious & slick dance floor and is well ventilated. Couches & tables & chairs are throughout the Cafe. Bar service is great, in fact the appetizers & beverage prices were very decent, compared with other inner city venues. Good service, friendly atmosphere, & good tunes, is certainly a great way to end your hump day :)

This is authentic jazz at its finest. I went on a Monday night and it was awesome. They had various jazz artist throughout the city dropping in to play some of the most soulful music your ever have the privilege to experience. I felt blessed to be in the building the talent was just mind blowing. The dude singing sounded just like the sounds from the roaring 1920's. I was thinking the whole time I was there that this must be what the good old days my grandma talked about felt like. Just a bunch of people dancing, having a great time, grooving to the beats. To top the night off their incredible Chef came around to the tables to give us samples of some of his signature dishes! I was a huge fan of the fish and grits. The drinks here are basic cocktails but they know how to give a good pour and the prices were very reasonable. A new Monday night hang out for me for sure.

What is the admission prices for the Monday night Jazz Jam?

The cover was $7 when I went a few weeks ago. If you are a jazz lover, you will definitely enjoy the music flow! Nothing fancy! Just good music!

The ambiance was great for the holiday they had themed drinks and specials going on, which added a fun touch and made it feel festive without being chaotic. Definitely a solid spot if you're looking for somewhere social but still comfortable. The drinks were good, and overall the vibe was on point. It felt like a place you could hang out for a while, whether you're there to celebrate something or just have a few drinks with friends. One thing to note is they don't serve food, I did hear they rotate food trucks at times, but none were there when we went which was a bit of a downside, but they did allow us to bring in outside food, which honestly made up for it and gave us more options. Parking wasn't too bad when we went, and since it wasn't super packed, everything felt smooth and easy. Overall, great vibes, good drinks, and a fun place. Definitely a spot I'd come back to for a casual hangout or social night out.

You are drawn, the way one is drawn to a place that promises honesty with a wink. It wears the posture of a dive but carries itself with intention, a little bohem, a little defiant, and entirely comfortable in its own skin. The bar hums with craft. Cocktails arrive balanced and deliberate, built by hands that understand restraint as much as flair. Nothing shouts. Nothing apologizes. Each glass feels considered, as though the bartender paused just long enough to ask what kind of night you were hoping to have, then answered without speaking. The staff moves easily, quick with wit and generous with attention, treating regulars and first-timers as if both had already earned their place. The decor tells its own quiet rebellion. Mismatched, layered, worn just enough to feel lived in, it carries the sense that stories have been told here and will be told again. And then there are the bathrooms, unisex and unashamed, their walls papered with vintage Playboy centerfolds that celebrate the female form not as spectacle but as art. Tasteful, sexy, unapologetic. A reminder that admiration can exist without crudeness, that beauty does not need permission to be acknowledged. The Two Headed Dog is less a bar than a posture toward the world. It resists neat categories. Not quite dive, not quite cocktail lounge, not quite anything else that could be reduced to a label. It is a place for those who appreciate craft without pretension, sensuality without excess, and atmosphere without artifice. In a city that thrives on reinvention, this bar stands firm, confident enough to be exactly what it is and nothing more.

Considering the recent shutter of other places (#2) within the hospitality umbrella, it's not too big of a surprise that Wooster's would also be in the crosshairs. The space was always a nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating, which combined with its dedicated parking lot made this an easy drinking outlet for all kinds of occasions. The intimate indoor space was lovely and well ventilated, and it felt like there wasn't ever a moment where the bar wasn't slammed. The outdoor space was much of the same, with lots of tables and chairs, and even the trendy swing chairs facing the city. The only thing that was a little bit of a liability were those open flame heaters; it would only take on person to accidentally walk into one or trip onto it. For libations, the drinks were well priced, well made, and always potent. I appreciated the aesthetics, as well as the bartenders who made them. The only part that wasn't exciting was the limited food menu, which did its part as munchies for the drink heavy crowd, but was mediocre otherwise. The space is already undergoing the new facelift of a separate concept, one of which I hope will do the area justice, just as much as Wooster's did. ____________ (#1) The Kirby Group. (#2) R.I.P. We came during happy hour and it was such a great deal. I ordered the Sweet Like Peach Tree, which was light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced with the peach and ginger. My husband got the Frozen Paloma and it was just as good, super smooth with the right citrus bite. We also shared the churros and they were honestly a must order. Warm, crispy, and paired with Nutella and caramel. What really made the experience stand out though was our bartender, Manny. He was incredibly welcoming from the moment we sat down, had such a great personality, and made the whole experience feel personal. Most of the music on the main bar is good, the DJs are energetic, and the bartenders are efficient while professional. It's not the easiest place to photograph anything, but the different (hidden) spaces make it a worthy destination for discovery. The one area that I don't love is that they rock automatic gratuity. The latter definitely comes at a price, but beware that some drinks may have all the presence but not enough of the substance. __________ My photos: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/behind-closed-doors-houston?userid=ysCBsXWPB-LAiewVS3jZfQ
