Went here for the first time last night and its obviously a popular spot as it was full. I have not…read moreseen many restaurants full on a Sunday night so was expecting to be wowed by the food. The Vorspeise was a mixed plate with some Ethiopian Spring rolls that had a meat filling in them and there was a lentil dish, cous cous and something that looked like spinach. The whole plate lacked seasoning in my opinion and was nice but the flavour was lacking as well. For main we had the Ethiopian national dish which was described as Scharf in the menu and it was two chicken drumsticks in a sauce with a boiled egg. The dish arrived in a big plate that we could all eat from and that was a nice concept. The bread that came with the dish was how you ate the food and you use your hands. There was no heat in the dish and again the flavour was slightly bland and lacked seasoning. I had the Ethiopian Honey Beer for a drink and I think that was the favourite part of my meal. It is in the neighbourhood so I will come back but I must admit it did not wow me in any way.

But frankly the restaurant wasn't upto my expectation. Partly because I was hoping to try something new! Ethiopian food quite surprisingly was very similar to indian cuisine, particularly south indian cuisine. Injera is very similar to South Indian Dosa albeit a bit sour. We tried sambusa and begwot (the spicy variety) but both the items didn't excite me at all. Sambusa is similar to any chinese spring roll minus the vegetables while begwot felt like eating lamb with dosa. I didn't find it spicy but the preparation was very similar to my home-made lamb curry. I must point out that this was a very personal experience and other fellow foodies might love this food as it brings with it a new eating experience (eating with hands) and a new taste.

Instead of music just playing in the background the owner picks songs off of YouTube. He has a projector to show the video up on the wall.
