Fries were cold, aioli too spicy and had some mysterious stuff in it; 'Veronica' had to check if they could make nachos without chili con carne, but she was pretty sure they came with it already on the chips.... What the hell kind of pre-made garbage is she used to eating?!? They finally came, with too little guacamole, and too spicy. Nothing special, just like what you can make at home... The glass was dirty; there were blankets and it was cold but the staff didn't offer one. Other than that the one male waiter in his 30's we had was friendly and spoke English well. He even said, after asking us if we wanted our drink 0.2 or 0.4, and after we'd answered 0.2, "do you know what that means, 0.2?" Lol . So nice! ; )

Cafe Extrablatt's breakfast buffet is great. Fresh scrambled eggs, hard-boiled eggs, broetchen and croissants, along with fruit, cheese, etc. It's much butter than even the breakfast buffet over at the expensive Maritim hotel (Bellevue), which costs a whole lot more. It's my daughter's favorite place to hang out with me in the mornings. The food is fresh and delicious, and the waiters/waitresses are young and very nice. Highly recommended!

Wanted something quick and easy but when I went in it wasn't what I expected. This place wasn't a cafe it was a restaurant with two floors. You could compare this place to a Burger chain restaurant in the US maybe like a Jonny Rockets. The burger I ordered was the Cesar but got a regular burger so I don't know the name of it. Nothing special about the burger though to be honest, it had cucumber on it which I have never had before so that was new. The fries were like McDonald French Fries and they were even served in a tiny deep fryer to let you know how uninspiring they were. I probably will never get a burger here again but from looking what other people ordered I think a Wrap is the way to go. Seems like the popular choice for lunch.

My wife and I walked in at 8:30am. A rude waitress replied us in an unfriendly look and voice that all the tables are reserved, as if we were intruding in her work. This is a two story cafe and with only two gentleman sitting at one table, that's it. Then another waitress who was very kind tried to pass us the menu. But I found out that they don't serve breakfast until 9:00am. It's fine, but the first rude waitress should have informed us. We then went to X11 Apostel hereby which provided excellent service at EURO$12.50 per person a decent breakfast buffet. What a difference.

To be honest the only reason we went into this restaurant was that it accept credit card payments though the Yelp comment weren't actually positive. However, it stays true to its price and we fed ourselves well with limited amount of money. We ordered 2 hot teas, an "afpelstudel', a lasagna as an "afternoon tea"ish meal and 2 wraps to go, which was only 34 euros in total. The environment was light and more of a young people place rather than traditional food restaurant or family place. The service was not to be complimented but suits the environment and price anyhow.

Round one of the brunch buffet. Also, delicious coffee!

Harry's New York Bar was on…read moremy list of the most reviewed (with a good rating) bars in Cologne (though you won't see as much Yelp activity in Germany compared to the States), and it was conveniently located to where we were at the time, so we stopped by for a drink half an hour before they closed. Ambiance (3.5/5): Harry's New York Bar is located in a hotel, though the bar has its own entrance, too. Think of it as an elegant hotel bar. Comfortable seating. Spacious. Along with a long bar which has some bar seating as well. So why not a higher rating for their ambiance? Well, this is pretty wild but there was a rat walking around while we were there. We told the bartender about it, but he didn't seem too concerned with the situation. I sure hope rats are not frequent guests here! Service (4/5): Outside of the rat situation, our bartender did a good job. Service in Europe doesn't tend to be terribly attentive, friendly, or efficient. And in Germany, they will often kick you out right when it's closing time. Not the case here. The bartender let us stay for a good while after they closed. Which I always appreciate. They even give you some snacks to munch on with your cocktail. That was a nice touch. Food (N/A): Outside of the complimentary snacks, we had dinner prior so I was on a liquid diet. Drinks (4.5/5): You would think that Harry's New York Bar is an American bar given the name. That's what I thought initially. I was wrong. Harry was a famous bartender in the U.K. who invented several famous cocktails. So that's what you should have here. They have a solid list of craft cocktails, many of them with an interesting blend of flavors and ingredients. I was happy with mine, though you will pay a premium here since it's a hotel bar. Harry's New York Bar has locations across the world. I was happy to check out my very first one in Cologne.

Located in a really cool area of Cologne, surrounded by bars, restaurants, and good vibes, what originally attracted me to Papa Joe's is that it's a jazz bar. I love me some jazz. Ambiance (4/5): When I think of a jazz club, I have a picture in my head. An upscale experience, dimly lit, with comfortable seating. Papa Joe's is not that at all. Think of it as a casual New Orleans bar. The stage is at the end of the bar close to the bathroom. The ground level is pretty narrow, with some seating and a long bar. Upstairs, there's some seating overlooking the ground floor. This is where I sat and it was a nice vantage point to watch the festivities. They have live music almost every day of the week with different bands performing. Unfortunately, the one playing when I attended wasn't jazz at all. It was funk. Not what I was expecting, and overall, the band wasn't great. Despite the music being a miss on this evening, I do like the vibes at Papa Joe's. Service (4.5/5): My waiter did a great job greeting me upstairs, taking my order promptly, and offering recommendations. Friendly and efficient---exactly what I look for in a service experience. No complaints. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so I was on a liquid diet. Drinks (4/5): Papa Joe's has a long list of cocktails, including New Orleans classics like the hurricane. Mine packed a punch, which I always appreciate. Most of the cocktails are on the tropical/fruity side. Nice selection overall. Plus beer and everything else you would expect at a full bar. The menu tells you the history behind Papa Joe's which is pretty cool. An interesting spot for sure in Germany, and one that I enjoyed, although it was much different than what I expected.

The one in Hungary was more soupier. The meat was a bit tough but good with paprika, potatoes and peppers The pork knuckle was soft and tender. It was well cooked. The sauerkraut was good. We both would order the pork again, but I would try a different soup not the goulash, but the pea soup. This place was worth visiting. We were going to eat at Peter Brauhaus first but glad we came here.
