Many tourists are not looking to stand at a lunch counter and eat a meal or consume a coffee, but for an authentic Brazilian experience this little bar cannot be beat. Ask for the Sandwich Douglas, a breakfast sandwich with 2 fried eggs and a slice of the white cheese typical of Minas Gerais. "Sandwich con dois ovos e queijo branco de Minas Gerais." Or try a slice of fresh pound cake and a small coffee for about 6 Reais, which is about $1.50. "Cake e cafezinho". Service is instant. The neighborhood regulars are colorful. There are all sorts of pastries, empanadas, chicken, fish options. The irony is that this little jewel is within a block of the expensive Garota de Ipanema tourist restaurant, much more authentic, and a welcoming place. read more
