A good stop along the city tour busses, this bar delivers some history and definitely a unique experience. The bar top is made out of stainless steel and has a rich history dating to the 19th century. The dining area has an inspiring atmosphere with musky wood smell and large paintings on the wall. Approach the friendly bartenders and give the fernet + coke combination a try. This bitter alcoholic concoction is the answer you get if you are looking for the special Argentine cocktail. The taste is unique and hard to describe, it is also under-marketed probably due to it being an acquired taste. Did not try any food from the menu.

Would be good because of the history, but the owners are con artists. I had the unfortunate…read moreexperience to run into this bar on a stop with Buenos Aires Bus. I used their bathroom and then went to get 2 bottles of water. Pulling out 20 pesos because each bottle should be less than 10 pesos (I bought a big bottle for 13 pesos the day before), the cashier demanded 60 pesos! Not in the mood to argue because of my dehydration, I forked it over. On the bus another lady was complaining how they take advantage of us tourists and said she had to pay 35 pesos for a bottle. Don't come here, and bring your own water if you have to take a bus tour and unfortunately the only company in town is still Buenos Aires Bus.

La Puerto Rico is a "Notable Bar." It was founded in 1887. It's located in the Monserrat neighborhood a couple of blocks off the Plaza de Mayo and up the street from the beautiful Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. The waiter explained to me why one must never say El Puerto Rico. It's La Puerto Rico. But apparently my Spanish is not good enough to catch the nuances. Just go with "la." But I do know this. La Puerto Rico was great for lunch. The service was excellent. We both had huge slices of savory pies -- think of the lunch in an English pub, but tastier. Mine was pumpkin and onions and it was terrific. My wife had a glass of lovely white wine. I stuck with a soft drink. Some of the older reviews are pretty critical. Apparently La Puerto Rico shut down during covid and reopened with a new menu, chef, and servers. If you're nearby, give La Puerto Rico a try.

You can tell her has been doing this for years at this restaurant and had his routine down. We had the Continental Breakfast, which came with fruit, eggs, today and deli meats for two, along with two coffees and fresh squeezed OJ. At first, i didn't think it would be enough food but i was super wrong once i saw the sizes of the plates and food stacked up. Eggs were ok, deli meats and cheeses were good but my favorites were the carbs (bread) and the fresh fruit. And the ORANGE JUICE here was so fresh. Enjoyed it more than my coffee . Should've ordered 2!
