Charismatic and Word of Faith at its finest. False teaching. Motivational speech sermons. Wouldn't recommend.

As a priest of 20 years, this was the most disappointing and unwelcoming church I have ever been…read moreto. I was never once informed that I needed to have a letter or approval from the pastor to concelebrate the Mass. When looking for the pastor to rectify this, he was unavailable despite many attempts to contact him on the day of the wedding. This was completely unprofessional of the pastor since I was never given a chance to even speak to him. I have been a priest involved with the family of the wedding couple for years, however, since the pastor was unavailable and never made any attempt to see me, I was told I could not participate in any way with the wedding Mass. The family was unsurprisingly disappointed but, unfortunately, not surprised. Therefore, I could only hope and pray that the laity are treated better than a fellow brother of the presbyterate.

The church has many active ministries of prayer and service and actively seeks participants in these ministries. The parish successfully runs an outstanding elementary school, and is a true Catholic church! Several Saturday and Sunday masses are offered that cater to either the early risers, the young, families with school age children and a Choral mass by one of the best choirs on Long Island. Our Music Director, Mr. Matthew Koraus, is an absolute genius who welcomes all to participation in our music ministry and hosts several concerts and recitals by the church's music ministry and other talents that raise appreciation for sacred music. In addition to the Chorale, there are groups for the very young, elementary school and high school choral groups. While the parish encompasses a middle class to affluent section of Huntington, there are marginalized people and families that this parish seeks out, welcomes and serves through its "Trocaire" Parish Social Ministry and their St. Vincent DePaul Society, and partners with St. Hugh's RC Church which serves a poor and immigrant population. The parish serves people of every age group, from sewing circles, to CYO to Teen Club (LifeTeen) with their own Mass, to older people. The parish hosts chapters for the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent dePaul Society, Catholic Daughters of America, The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Alcoholics Anonymous and their partner support groups. There are also many prayer groups dedicated to Jesus, the Blessed Mother, Peace, Pro-Life, etc.

Totally dig this place. Life is loud and fast moving--Dipamkara provides a sanctuary (even if it's…read moreonly for a little) from that clamor. The classes are always interesting; but more than that I'm always so impressed by the people attending the classes! Every time I've been there thus far, I'd say the people that go are hardcore meditators for the most part. No challenges, discussions, egoic banter, attention seeking, or shallowness... everyone goes, listens, stays still and quiet during the meditations (no one falls asleep either! Or if they have, they're awfully quiet about it), and then leaves. It's... amazing. Really.

I've rethought it (and perhaps matured just a wee little bit), and decided I shouldn't be…read moredisparaging. Different teachings are appropriate to different people, and there's a place in the world and a right audience for those teachings that impart a few drops of the Buddha's message in a solution of colorful and dramatic Asian cultural beliefs and New Age mysticism. As long as those few drops of the Buddha's teaching remain in the solution, it has the potential to help some people progress along the Buddhist path, and if what you hear and experience at the Dipamkara Center resonates with you, then it's probably the right teaching for where you're at right now. Especially so if you're not looking specifically for the Buddha, but are just seeking some peace and calm and help and comfort from wherever it may come. I just want those who do seek a purer, more undiluted view of the Buddha's teaching - which is definitely not comfortable for everybody - to understand that it is available elsewhere (on and off Long Island), and to continue their search. I'm not giving five stars here just because Yelp describes five stars as meaning, "as good as it gets", and, just as, for some people, Dipamkara is the absolute perfect thing, so for others there is better than Dipamkara to be had. *bow*
