    Hastings Museum

I'll admit that the only thing about this museum that I experience was the basement, which to most…read morepeople is the most interesting part. What I'm talking about is the history of Kool Aid! Kool Aid is a brand we don't hear very much about anymore, unless we're talking about cults. But the town of Hastings does take pride that the founder of Kool Aid is from there. There is a huge detailed display about the evolution of Kool Aid, and its very cool to learn about. Remember the Kool Aid toys and collectibles we all grew up with, regardless of generation? They're all there. And you can also watch a montage of classic Kool Aid commercials while there. There's a statue of the Kool Aid Man outside the museum as well. I feel really bad that I didn't check out other parts of the museum (I think there are 3 floors...) as it talks about the natural history as well as the agriculture and cultural part of the town. But maybe for another time....

OK, this museum is a lot of fun. There is a lot to do for families of all ages and groups of all…read moresizes. We got there and came in and we're looking at the animal exhibits when someone mentioned that a planetarium show was about to start about black holes, so we went inside and my cousin and I both adults and three young children under 10 took our seats and really enjoyed the approximately 20 minute presentation on black holes, looking up at the ceiling in the projection and it was a lot of fun. There are multiple types of exhibits in the museum, including a really cool area celebrating Kool-Aid. Because apparently Kool-Aid was invented in Hastings, Nebraska. Who knew?! There is a antique car exhibit in the basement area as well and a Lego section that is interactive, and the whole experience was really nice. The bathrooms near the Lego exhibit were clean. We used the elevator to go between floors because my cousin has lots of small children in a rolling stroller/cart, and there's a little gift shop with fun things to view and purchase and I would definitely recommend if you're in the Hastings area. You spend some time here..

I don't recommend the hall! We had a terrible experience. Had our wedding reception planning there…read moreand had nothing but twists and turns and changes all along the way. The building its self is nice. The people who run the hall don't currently have it together. We were told there would be new round tables and new chairs so I bought linens and decorations accordingly. Just to be told down the road no new chairs and no round tables. They told us we had to rent round tables and use their old metal folding chairs. Had to argue with the board that is not what we were told and they weren't holding up their end of the deal. They did rent round tables for us but mentioned several times that they shouldn't have had to do that. Not sure if someone was trying to make us feel bad....Not good business. We wanted to sign our contract and put down our deposit clear in the beginning and they wanted us to " just wait until later." We also had troubles with the morning after clean up times. The contract that we finally got was worded terribly and they admitted they knew it was worded badly and was confusing. We also wound up getting to come in when we had been originally told rather than what they tried to tell us down the road with less clean up time. We went through the entire hall for clean up after (you have to clean everything up yourself) and we were told someone vomited in the men's restroom. There was no proof is this, no phone call nothing. They sent a letter with a check minus money out of our deposit for this. We went through all the rooms and our band changed in the restroom. They were the last ones in the restroom, there was no vomit. Our band was sober since they had been performing all evening. No one saw or smelled anything. Speculation, but I believe they charged us for this in spite of "having the rent the tables" Over all I was so stressed out with all this on top of wedding planning it wasn't worth the heartache. Maybe things will be better down the road when they get things straightened out but as of now. I do NOT recommend this hall. Not worth the frustration and tears especially for our big day.
