Great service, drinks and ambiance. It's the old post office and has a lot of character. Make sure to checkout the water station and the overhead tubes that deliver food. The "secret bookshelf" door that opens to the bathroom with Star Wars figurines and playing a Harry Potter audiobook was an unexpected but fun and quirky touch. For drinks, I wanted something with no caffeine and tried their taro latte on the special's menu (which is rare to see in coffeeshops!), which was nice and light. Great coffee and service! There's a couple of different C-# coffee shops in Christchurch, they were apparently one company before but have since become independent. The interior was so beautiful and they had a bunch of cute features like the sewing machine water dispenser and the bookcase bathroom door. The bathroom was also playing a Harry Potter audiobook which was a cool touch. Wish we had more time in Christchurch because we want to come back again tomorrow! The iced chai was yummy. Chill coffee house with a wide selection of both drinks and food. The employees were very friendly and provided suggestions. I got a coffee and the Savory Crumpets. Both were tasty. They also got me a mug of hot water that I requested. Different seating options available here including some large group tables. I sat down at a small table with bench seating against a wall. The seating and table height ratio was off so it was a big uncomfortable because I couldn't cross my legs, but I think there are more comfortable seats elsewhere inside. read more

This coffee shop was listed as a must do in Christchurch and I had trouble finding it! I went to C2, C4 before realizing this was the correct location. However even though it took about 40 mins to come from when I tried to get coffee, it was worth the experience. I had some iced chai and my father got a dripping coffee and the ambiance and service was great. Highly recommend for someone passing by Christchurch and for locals who want to have a great cup of coffee! read more

Pretty cool place- the outside is super fancy! There is outdoor and indoor seating available. My husband and I stopped her for breakfast (only bummer is they don't use the pneumatic tubes until afternoon). We ordered coffees (plenty of options) and breakfast- which was delectable, and their coffee was high quality! The whole atmosphere was really neat- for water, it came out of am old sewing machine! To get to the restrooms, it was behind a bookcase door. Very fun! Would've loved to come back in the afternoon had we been in Christchurch longer. What a cool place! The decor inside is awesome, you wouldn't get bored just sitting here and looking around (also looking for the toilet, which is a fun game, as is working out which star wars character's room you will be weeing in). I really liked my blue smoothie bowl, it was beautifully presented. I thought the bread with the salmon and avo was a bit dry but other than that no complaints really. Sadly they've been having trouble sourcing the acai smoothie that was the reason I was told to go, but worth asking to see if they have it back in now! read more

I really dug this café, though I will say, I did initially feel like I was nowhere near the end of the "hip & cool" spectrum you might need to be on to eat here. The space is very quirky contemporary and I think it might have been a bank or something previously because there are vacuum tubes incorporated in the décor throughout. They did a great job of repurposing antique items and a walk around the café is highly recommended to discover some of these repurposed items. They have a great menu concept and their coffee drinks vary from the usual suspects to works of art (the ice coffee has ice cream, marshmallows, and a choc-covered Swedish fish). I had the breakfast burger and it was beyond delicious! You definitely pay for what you get, so be warned you will drop some bank here, but between the ambiance, quality, and just fun-ness of the novelty, it is well worth it! The staff was quite nice as well and seem to be used to getting people who are new to their menu and ordering concept. It is counter service and open seating. What a great place to just enjoy a cup of coffee, read a book, or hang out with friends and catch up! The ambiance is relaxing and casual. The staff was pretty quick and friendly. We ordered long blacks and a chocolate mousse to share. What a perfect way to spend an afternoon after eating lunch at the Little High Eatery. The concept and look of the place is quite nice, it's in a nice location and it has a very nice artsy and modern feel to it. I saw someone order the tea and it looked really gorgeous with the ice cubes filled with fruit or whatever, and the pretty bottle with the tea. I ended up ordering that, and while what I got was very pretty, the tea itself wasn't all that special. It tasted a little plain, and the scent of the tea wasn't all that special or unique. Great coffee - probably the best we've had in the New Zealand. The had almond, coconut and soy milk as non dairy options. Thumbs up on that! Food was really good, nice staff and the waiting on everything was quite short. Not the busiest night maybe but still. C1 is listed in travel books and websites countless times as one of top coffee shops in Christchurch. With advertisements like this, how could the unknowing tourist not stop by? I arrived for brunch on a Saturday with my husband around 9:30 am and there was quite a crowd. There were still tables both inside and outside but a line was beginning to form at the counter. The line moves very slowly as there are many options and people stand in line without knowing what they want to order first or are holding spaces for 5 other people who are already sitting at a table somewhere. Our order is finally placed for french toast, eggs benedict, a coffee and a cappuccino and we sat against the wall to the bathroom and kitchen. Looking around the room, it is clear that the appeal of C1 is the atmosphere. There are pneumatic tubes that send orders of chips and sliders zipping across the room, old video game machines and a "secret door" disguised as a bookshelf leading to the bathroom. My personal favorite was the sewing machine water dispenser. The building architecture is beautiful and the tall ceiings with plenty of windows makes the place seem bright and cheery despite they old paraphernalia. I get the appeal of having your food delivered to you in an interesting and high pressure way, but unfortunately, the food isn't quite up to speed. We found our brunch a little bland and uninventive. We were extremely disappointed as we had such high hopes from the cool atmosphere. Stick to this place for the coffee and the pin ball. read more

Upon entering the restaurant, you'll notice the ceiling will have a couple of those vacuum tubes. Some food will actually get delivered in these tubes, but only between 3-9pm. I came in at around 12 so I was a little disappointed I couldn't order anything besides fries that would be delivered from the tubes. The environment was quite cozy. Water needs to be filled yourself via this hand crank thing that was hard to control. I ordered the Corn and Coriander Fritter that came with bacon, salsa, guacamole and sour cream. I also had an iced coffee. My brother ordered the Super Choice Bro breakfast I think it was called and my cousin ordered fries just to see it be delivered from the tubes. My meal was quite delicious! The fritter was made pretty well and it wasn't too cooked or anything, same with the bacon. The iced coffee was interesting as it used ice cream as the sweetener. There were also mini marshmallows and a marshmallow fish that was coated in chocolate. It wasn't strong on the coffee taste and was quite light, I felt that it would be better suited as a " coffee milkshake". When my cousin's fries arrived at the tubes, a bell would be struck at the appropriate tube indicating that the food has arrived. Then you must check if the canister has your name on it to make sure it's yours. Overall the food was quite good and I'd definitely come back to try the items on the dinner menu that better utilises the vacuum tubes. read more

I came on a mid week morning so it was only a quarter full. The coffee gets 5 stars too. Where it falls down though is in the food. It's not bad. It's good actually but not up to my expectations of a place this cool. The staff were all really pleasant and friendly but a little too eager to clear the tables, this probably isn't so much of an issue when they're busy. All in all, well worth checking out but there are definitely better brunches to be had in ChCh. read more

The place is roomy with indoor and outdoor seating. Opens till 10pm which makes it a great place to chill in the evening. The decor has been really thought out - from the tap water served from a sewing machine and sliders served from pneumatic tubes to your table, to Star Wars character decorations in the bathroom and Harry Potter audio books playing in the background. This probably the coolest place I've been for coffee, espresso, and tea. They also have some great food and pastries. The Curly Fries delivered by pneumatic tubes in the the restaurant definitely has to be one of the highlights. It's also the only place I've been that has a sparkling water dispenser. It's the old water cooler. The sewing machine is still water. It was such a great place that is one of my favorites in Christchurch. I wish I had a place like this closer by because I'd go all the time. When I'm in Christchurch again, I'll definitely be back. read more

The customer is always right, right? Apparently not at C1 coffee. I wanted an iced turmeric latte and they wouldn't sell it to me iced nor sell me a cup of ice to go with it. When pressed, the woman behind the counter told me that they only sold coffee and lattes iced. When I mentioned that it was indeed a latte, she proceeded to tell me that "superfoods" wouldn't be sold iced. Considering that heat destroys the properties of many things that people consider "superfoods", I found this a ridiculous excuse. C1 Espresso is a Christchurch institution, and this latest installment brings a healthy dose of normalcy to the substantially-less-than-intact CBD. Don;t worry if there is a line at the counter, it moves swiftly and vanishes from time to time. Having migrated across High Street since the earthquakes, C1 is in a familiar place, and for mine, a better venue. It was col before, but this cafe now has a maturity about it that wasn't there before. It probable caters to a wider market. The Coffee is still great, I had three flat whites in less than 2 hours and didn't encounter a hint of bitter or burnt. The food looks amazing, but I didn't eat as my companion wasn't up for a meal; I probably missed out.
