Good drinks like really good! If you know you know. CC Slaughters is a longstanding lgbtq+ bar meets lounge nightclub in Old Town Portland. It's definitely a place to enjoy and end up if you enjoy the night seen. I've been lucky enough to visit both the location in Puerto Vallarta and this one circa 2018. We enjoyed the lounge and drinks before making our way from their Rainbow Room way into the NightClub which is a mix of everything. Still the best Lemon Drop I've had to date! It didn't really get busy until late here - like midnight, which is wild for weekend. All the security and staff were personable and they had a cool drag show we caught most of. Some fun themed nights/days, including Piano Karaoke, TRANS-UHH-LICIOUS, Comedy Nights, etc. It does seem like most of their on-goings happen before 10pm, w/ live DJs for the late late crowd. Completely different their cousin location in Mexico. There's a food menu of mostly bar style eats (like taquitos, tenders, jalapeno poppers, corn dogs and my go to Meatless Nuggets w/ tots or fries). Free Wi-Fi, clean restrooms, pool tables and great mood lighting. It's a pretty walkable area overall, but definitely recommend those 24 hr parking garages if driving in or passing through. Rideshare is also fairly easy in the area also. The MAX light rail and local transit service usually end by midnight most days, even on weekends. The whole place is decorated in a set theme (this time it was a black light jungle) and the ambiance is incredible. The bars are well stocked and their drinks were really good, though the line can get a bit long at times. The bartenders and waitstaff were always polite and I never felt rushed or uncomfortable. After getting a bite to eat we decided to meet a few friends out after the fact. We asked where they were and headed to CC. I'm always up for a good bar scene with some live entertainment. Showing up we were about to catch the tail end of the The Queen's Keys. After paying a cover and getting banded we were inside. Where the Queen's Keys performs is a smaller, more intimate area. They are very entertaining and they are amazing. Quite entertaining and on this night flowed right into the next event. On the night we were in attendance we were able to take in a drag show as well. Funny thing, I had no idea that there was another space here and was expecting the drag show to start in this space as well. I can be oblivious at times to my surroundings. The drag show was entertaining in the back space. However, I felt like it was a bit crowded at some points and people clogged some walkway areas. Overall, it was a great drag show, all the performers were entertaining, beautifully done up, and kept the night going. I want to touch on the staff here. All of them were amazing and kind. When ordering a drink they took the time to ask if we had a preference of alcohol and they were quick with it. Even the staff attending the doors were fast to respond to questions and were efficient at getting you inside to enjoy. I wished I had more time to spend here, as they had DJs lined up after the drag show, but I wasn't in town on personal business. It is definitely a spot to unwind and relax. read more

It was a night of absolute frustration. We came in with out of state IDs and our party was young (23-25) which is a fair red flag to anyone checking IDs. They took the IDs and after a minute of deliberation (we saw them Googling what a Wisconsin ID looked like) they decided they were fake and that they'd have to take them. They thought we were playing a trick on them and sneeringly said these are "clearly fake" and "you can go now". These were very much real IDs. We offered different forms of verification, etc., but they refused to give them back and that it didn't matter because they're clearly fake. Aside from how time consuming it is to replace IDs, two of our party were visiting from out of state and needed them to fly back home later that week so leaving without them was not an option. They said we needed police to come verify they were real. While we were waiting on the phone, we saw multiple parties try to get in. They refused someone that didn't have US identification and were really brusque about the ordeal. After an hour and a half on the phone in the cold waiting for the police, they said they can't verify they're real but that they'd give them back. I think actually waiting for an hour and half convinced them that they were real. No hate on being serious about fake IDs, but the situation was handled terribly. read more

Hi CC's. My partner Spencer has reached out to you already. I'm just reaching out to give you more context. We walked up to the rainbow room expecting to get in. I moved away from Portland in 2011. I spent my 21st birthday back in 2008 playing pool with Bolivia. I have so many good memories at CC's and the rainbow room from my young adulthood. I was always able to get into the rainbow room. It was always the same cover and wristband policy. We were rudely turned away from the rainbow room. We walked over to CC's discussing our confusion. By the time we reached CC's the bouncer at Rainbow had contacted the bouncer and CC's and denied us entry. It was a simple miscommunication that left us feeling deeply misunderstood and criticized. We attempted to explain ourselves to the bouncer and the manager but they were unwilling to hear us and come from a place of curiosity and understanding. I get the bouncers have to make quick decisions on someone's character but tonight they got it wrong and we are feeling deeply hurt. I can't help but wonder if the female presenting bouncer at the rainbow room doesn't have deeply critical parents and therefore decode criticism when no criticism was encoded in the communication. I really hope that the managers can have a reflective conversation about what constitutes a refusal of services in the future so harmless queer folx aren't turned away and shamed in the future. Love the crowd and the vibes here but have had multiple issues with rude staff. Last Halloween, I waited at the bar for 45 minutes while the bartender pointedly ignored me. A stranger eventually took pity on me and asked me what I wanted and ordered it. A couple months ago, my friend ordered a vodka tonic and the bartender said "Are you sure you don't want a gin and tonic?" She said "Yeah what was I thinking I definitely want a gin and tonic," and the bartender proceeded to make a vodka tonic anyway and then laugh at her. More recently, I got kicked out for standing outside by a trashcan. I didn't puke or heave in it, just stood there because I needed some air. The bouncers then refused to let me back in. I don't even blame them for that, I understand why they wouldn't trust a stranger's assessment of their own intoxication. What I can't forgive is the condescending way they spoke to me or their self-satisfied smiles as they denied me re-entry. They were patronizing and snide, and seemed to take pleasure in throwing me out even though I was calm and polite to them. (Saturday's bartender was friendly, at least, and the two drinks he made me were very good) It makes me sad because I've had a lot of great nights out at CC's. Still leaving 3 stars despite the above experiences because I don't want to unfairly denigrate the DJs and bartenders who've given me a lot of good times there. I found myself next door at Darcell's with a group of friends celebrating a bachelorette party. After the show ended, we decided to stop in knowing it was one of the few (if not only?) dance clubs in the area. I'd read reviews and warned my friends about the possibility of being ignored due to the fact that we were a large group of girls at a predominantly male-catered gay bar. Sure enough, we waited around for eons while those around us were served at the bar. It was extremely frustrating & made even worse by the crappy music playing. Truly, I don't think the music could've been any worse. Slaughters has been my go-to gay bar since 2013. I could see how some would not like the place, but those folks usually cause trouble and might be too "seasoned" to enjoy the place that is - CC Slaughters, aughters, aughters (Insert Bolivia's MC voice). The drinks are strong and cheap, the music is fun and all over the place, and the security team takes good care to keep us all safe. Right before walking into the establishment the security guy checked my I.D and in I went. I mentioned to the bartender (Justin, I asked for their name) that I'm not much of a drinker. Furthermore, I said I like sweet drinks but would prefer if the alcohol content was to be on the lighter side. I gave Justin the okay to make a drink for me that I'd enjoy based on the preceding. Justin did an amazing job with the drink. It was sweet and didn't taste the alcohol as much but those are the ones that get to you. I also had some food and the food was actually good. Justin, the security guard, and everyone else were so friendly. The ambience was so relaxing and inviting. I enjoyed being in this venue due to a great sense of ease which is AMAZING. Thank you for an amazing experience. (By the way this review is based on my first and only visit so far which has been a few months). My friends and I love CC Slaughters. The drinks are cheap, the cover is reasonable most of the time, and the dance floor & drag shows are great. I see a lot of negative reviews about bartenders, but I have never had a problem the times that I have been here and I think they deal with a ton of late night craziness. They also always manage to find me with my food order, which is kind of amazing. My only note is the music is a little stale, repeated club hits basically. Would love more Lizzo, Kim Petras, and similar current hits ;) read more

I'm coming from out of town for a friends birthday and we decided to check out CCs.. the bartenders were extremely kind! (Justin) from the back bar was great, he was fast every time I came back for another drink he knew what I wanted. I noticed the line is much more smaller at the back bar than the main bar! We watched the drag show and the drag queens were awesome!! I could tell the drag queens were very passionate about what they were doing! BUT the gogo dancers were probably my favorite part of the night! I had to ask one of them for their name (Jay) because he was by far one of the most fiercest dancers I've ever seen. My buddy couldn't help it but ask for his number but he kindly denied.. even though I knew Jay was way too hot for my friend! (Haha).. Anyway, I had a great time! I've lived in Portland for awhile and haven't been to this location, so Portland Pride week was the best opportunity to go. I've had my fair share of gay clubs, and overall it's not that bad. Like many gay clubs, the focus is mostly on gay white men. Being a bi black woman (aka a minority within the minority), you walk into these establishments with a 'I know I'm a fish outta water but damn, just let me live" vibe. They also cater to the young crowd (under 25), so imagine my awkwardness has been elevated to 1000. Besides all that, Slaughters was all right. There's a huge dance floor so no worries about bumping into people (they're also strict with how many people can enter at a time, which can be annoying, but I'd rather have some space then feel like I'm in a tin can). Everyone seemed to be having a good time and there was no issues when I was there. Overall, it's ok for your typical gay bar/club. read more

I came here for the first time for my girlfriends birthday which happened to be on a drag night! SO MUCH FUN. Great show, super engaging, great energy! Highly recommend for a fun night with friends. However, the bar is a problem. First of all, I asked the bartender if he could make my gf a nice birthday shot and he responded as if I was asking for a free handout "this isn't Red Robin" "I don't do that for people who ask". Mind you, I was completely willing to pay, and made sure he knew that. So next round I went to the next bartender who wouldn't let me buy a drink for my gf, but let her and others buy more than one (we don't get that turnt). The drinks were watery, tiny, and 99% ice. This is not the gay bar you're looking for. If you're seeking inclusion, acceptance and a welcoming atmosphere you're in the wrong place. What you will find is a bouncer discriminating against specific demographics to the point of being offensive. When I read other reviews describing the rude entrance procedures I chalked it up to being a one off situation but I can certainly attest to being treated as someone that didn't belong because of my gender, persuasion and the stereotypical assumptions the security staff guides itself with. I will not return and as a sex positive educator and speaker I cannot support this business. When you run an lbgtq establishment that means bi and queer too. Went back again and had the oddest thing happen. First of all, the bar staff were great. Security though was odd as hell. I had two drinks and security walks up to me and says, "YOU'RE CUT OFF!" He never did tell me why and people around me were even like, "WTH?!?" I'm not a tiny boy and can guarantee I wasn't drunk after two drinks. The only thing I can figure is he had me confused with someone else. I just do not appreciate being treated like that and no explanation. I was standing in the corner like a wallflower.
