The entrance off Kaierstrasse might cause you to look twice - go through an old passageway, on your right is the cloakroom and up the stairs is the Orange Peel bar itself. Unlike many other places in Frankfurt, this is an easy-going, un-self-conscious venue, with a friendly atmosphere, unostentatious interior and broad mix of clientele. We got there just after 9pm for the Tuesday blues night, and the crowd (thin at 9.15pm, packed out by 11.30pm) was a mix of students, middle-aged types, hipsters and grey-haired blues fans. The booze was pretty cheap and the bar service was quick and friendly. No food - eat before you come! Most importantly, the music was very good. The house band played for an hour, serving up well-executed blues tinged with a hint of funk - one or two standards (like Hoochie Coochie Man, which they nailed) and some rarities. Although the leader is Tommie Harris on drums, the MC'ing was done by the guitarist, who chatted away to the crowd in a mix of German and English (at least half of the band are originally from the US as far as I can tell). The second half of the evening was 'open stage' with all comers welcome to join the house band for a number or two. Fun times; we were sorry we had to leave before the night was over. The crowd were still cheering on the band and the open stage guests, who ranged from OK to excellent. If you bring your guitar, and you know the opening licks for 'Jonny B Goode', then you too might be able to join in ...

First off, when it is mighty cold outside (at one point it even started snowing, you might NOT wanna let those with premium tickets (meet&greet included) have to wait outside till about 1 hour prior the gen admission gates are opened. Specially if you, then, take some 40 minutes rudely going through purses (last i checked you CANNOT put your hands IN the purses). Secondly, if you do not actually have a spot reserved for M&Gs, do not offer it at the venue. Thirdly, when the dang venue is GA (aka NO assigned seating) you MIGHT wanna cordon off the PRIME tickets holders with something other than a crime scene yellow tape (may i suggest some crush barriers???) which you then let go whenThings get out of hands!!! Can one scream LACK of organization???????? What about acoustics?? Only tuing working fpr the concert i attended is that everyone was too busy screaming (it was a long-lasting 15 years' wait for a much needed reunion) to even care about acoustics. For crying out loud.... this si Frankfurt. .. not some tiny town in the middle of nowhere! !!!
