The German pastries and sandwiches were labeled in German, but the employee who was there at the time spoke English and could explain what they were. This including learning that the varieties of Franz pastries were actually different kinds of Franzbrötchen, a German-Hamburg specialty pastry and not different kinds of croissants.
Junge Die Bäckerei is a German coffee shop bakery chain with almost 200 locations. This particular store is in the Landungsbrücken terminal building of St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken (St. Pauli Piers), the Port of Hamburg's biggest landing area. This port is one of the big tourist attractions in Hamburg's St. Pauli's area, so heads up on the sheer amount of people. From what we could see, most people were here for the Elbe Tunnel introduction (and maybe to walk the underground tunnel that travels beneath Norderelbe part of the Elbe River) or to have lunch at one of the restaurants (while looking over the aforementioned river).
The coffee shop faces inland, so it does not look over the river. They have seating inside as well as out, where you would be able to see all the tour buses. Good place to pick up something eat if you don't want to sit down to eat, don't want to try the food kiosks down the way, or just want a coffee, tea, or a dessert. While we had lunch at BLOCKBRÄU, but we came here to afterwards to load up on pastries before getting back on the bus. My dad especially liked his apfelbällchen (apple pastry) and I REALLY enjoyed the quarkkamm I got. One thing that I was interested in but didn't have the guts to try was the halbes mett, which I recognized from prior research as being the minced raw pork open sandwich.
In the end, I just really appreciate that one employee as well, who was very patient in explaining what exactly each pastry as well since none of us could really read German for the descriptions and was just generally very informative. Overall, the pastries were delicious, everyone who needed coffee got their caffeine, and I'm glad to have gotten the chance to try some German pastries.
