I can't count how many times I've glanced at this place from the bus window, and thought, 'Meh'…read more For some reason I figured it was overpriced - one of those Södermalm 'vintage' shops which sell grandma's clothes after adding a few zeros to the price tag. Finally I decided that was a silly assumption and that I should check it out. And boy am I glad I did! When I first walked in I thought the shop was teeny tiny, but I turns out it's just made up of several different rooms. Pros: Not crowded Nice music Lots of gym shoes, cheap and in good condition Vintage brand name items No used H&M or Lindex crap like many second-hand stores Great selection of long fancy gowns Low prices Cons: I didn't actually find anything I wanted to buy. Shop is poorly organized When I say poorly organized, I mean that there is no logic in where things are placed. However, it is still very tidy and clean, with nothing lying around out of place. It's not much of a complaint really, it just means you have to poke around a bit more. BUT, I did decide that this place gets the trophy for Best Place to Prepare for a Costume Party. If you ever have a themed party - 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s - then skip Beyond Retro and come here instead. Sure, you can find everything at Beyond Retro, but it will cost you 400 SEK or more, whereas here prices are more towards 150 SEK. I noticed tons of sparkly tops, long gowns, drop-waist dresses, denim galore, bags, shoes, and more. Humana obviously selects their items somehow, as it's not full of last season's H&M like most second-hand stores. If you come here you do know that you will be finding worthwhile items.

It's a thrift store that's definitely been curated. The inventory isn't a mixed bag, but skewed…read moretowards a young hipstery crowd. It reminded me of the old shops on Haight Ashbury back in the 90s, a little grunge and anti-establishment. The prices weren't outrageous, but I didn't buy anything as I felt like I probably could find these back in San Francisco. I went during a weekday afternoon, so there were only teenagers around and it did feel a little Urban Outfitters-esque.

Emmaus is by far my number-one second-hand shopping stop in Stockholm. And that's not a statement…read moreto be taken lightly - I live on Södermalm, home of plenty of vintage and second-hand shops, and I visit them regularly. I am a total second-hand addict. Choose something with massive shoulder pads, call it vintage, and triple the price? No thanks. I prefer real second-hand - it's a treasure hunt of good deals. And Emmaus is the best! Why? For one, their selection is always changing. It's close to my work so sometimes I go there multiple days in a row and always see new things. It's also affordable. If you're shopping second hand then you don't want to end up paying a lot. Some shops on Södermalm, like Stadsmission by Nytorget, jack up the prices to ridiculous levels, but Emmaus has second-hand prices as they should be. You can easily get a great new dress for anything from 50 to 100 SEK - and sometimes they have sales where all dresses (for instance) are half off! The staff here do know their brands, so if you find something by a designer then it will typically reflect that in the price. But it will still be a great bargain! People are friendly here, and you can put an item on layaway for a day. Sometimes they even have 'parties' during the summer where they offer free snacks and have a DJ, which makes for a fun and unique thrifting experience. I always end up finding something here - a dress, a book I've been meaning to read, a gorgeous set of vintage tea cups, the Swedish game kubb, a new hat, beautiful t-strap heels. There's something for everyone if you just look!
