This place is AMAZING. And if it's this awesome now, I can't imagine how cool it will be when finished! This place was created as a tribute to the butterfly and is dedicated to learning about and preserving them. Right now there is a small greenhouse you can go into that has several thousand butterflies flitting around--this is temporary while they are building the mother of all butterfly houses, The Biome, which will be 100m in diameter and 17.5 m high and be home to hundreds of thousands of butterflies. According to the website it will be the "largest walk-through experience in the world, with rope walkways, Maya caves and ruins to explore, streams and tropical rainstorms."
For you artsy fartsy people there are the Future Gardens. These are 12 individual gardens which represent the segments of a caterpillar. Each segment was designed by a different talented garden designer and they are weird and wonderful. Things to look for: a giant birds nest with eggs the size of people, glamourous mannequins with lovely flowers for hair and a big garden wall made up of old rubbish. There's so much to see it's almost too much.
I'm always a sucker for gift shops and Butterfly World has a lovely one. You can buy all sorts of butterfly goodies as well as different flowers and plants for your own garden. Even though it's not quite finished, it is still well worth a visit! The entry fee is only £6, though I'm not sure it will stay that cheap once the awesomeness is complete! read more
