The pork and steak serving was so skimpy. Again, been here many times. We paid and proceeded to have a seat about 6:45 pm. There wasn't a table clean anywhere. I had to ask for a table to be cleaned so we could have a place to eat. My husband filled our cups with Iced Tea. We were talking about how ridiculous the portions were. In a little bit I went to get some salsa. The serving spoons had been removed. My husband went to get tea. The tea had been removed without any warning. I asked the young man why we weren't informed you were closing down. He said he told everyone. Neither my husband or I were informed. So disappointed with every aspect of this place! read more

After hearing so many coworkers rave about this place, we decided to give it a try (we generally just go to Moes for to-go burritos) It was okay...I think it was overhyped so that felt like a let down. I ordered a chicken and a beef paradise taco but they gave me two beef instead. The beef was severely over seasoned and over cooked, it was difficult to eat. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it tasted fine, but was more like a flat burrito with mostly rice and beans rather than the chicken and cheese that I would expect in a quesadilla. I wish the chicken was shredded instead of largely cubed, just as a textural issue - it tasted okay. The salsa was oddly sweet and thin. It took over half an hour to get our order once we placed it in addition to the taco mix up. All in all, I like that it is closer to our house but it did not live up to its massive hype for me. As time goes on with new employees filtering in and out the service and quality of food goes down. Chicken has not been fully cooked on two separate visits. It is nice that chips come with each meal, but in the last 6 months they have been giving less and less. They only offer one size of drinks now. The punch cards are sometimes accepted as buy 10 get 11th meal free and sometimes it's buy 11 get the 12th meal free depending on which employee is working (it is nice they do punch cards). The floors, tables, and rests rooms are often very dirty (the women's bathroom is always dirty.) read more

Had the S turn exactly as it is on the menu, which for me is a change of pace and it was delicious! Everything was so flavorful and it felt good to eat a real lunch instead of brown bagging it for my first official work day here in NC. This is my favorite place to grab lunch in the Hampstead area. I always get the fish tacos if I'm eating in with the jolly Roger toppings. Everything I've had there is delicious though. If I'm getting to go I'll usually get a rice bowl with chicken and a bunch of stuff on it. Definitely recommend. read more

Quick service, reasonable prices, great food, and friendly staff! I ordered a quesadilla, which I rarely do since most quesadillas are overpriced and have no toppings. These quesadillas are PACKED. Have been to Burrito Shak many times and have never had a complaint. Picked up at $30+ to go order today and I got home and the queso was missing. I called and they asked me if I was sure it wasn't there....I said yes I'm sure and they told me to hold on they had to get a manager. While I was on hold I heard someone say, "she sounds pretty irritated I'm not going to argue with her." I wasn't irritated when I first called but I got pretty irritated when my integrity was questioned. Next time you talk about a customer you might want to make sure they can't hear you.They had me on hold forever so I just ended up hanging up. read more

Good find in Hampstead, right next to the Dollar General. Ratings are spot on with a 4.5. Wanted to give it a shot since I am a Cali kid and totally miss a good burrito. I consider myself a connoisseur of burritos, clam chowder, and calamari. Went in, as always, asked the employees what they recommend, and the S-TURN burrito with steak it was. I took out the rice and beans, loved the Poblano Creme and the habanero hot sauce (not for the faint of heart). Fresh veggies, well cooked meat and great service. A young crew, with kind people who go out of their way to help you; thanks Brooklyn! I have been there 5 times in a week (don't judge, I am a single bachelor lol). I will be back for sure. Went there during my Topsail Beach vacation one evening. The line was long but moved fast enough. I got some chicken tacos that tasted pretty good. I'm from Texas so I have had a lot better, but they were still good tacos. Nothing fancy but a good place if you just want something good to eat and don't feel like dealing with the long waits at the seafood joints. read more

I would give it at least 4 stars for the taste of the food but this location has been unimpressive. I have gotten at least two online orders that were incorrect and the last time I went there, there was a lot less food in my bowl. Barely had any carne asada and I paid extra to get it. Our family absolutely loves Burrito Shak...especially on Mondays when they have baked potatoes! The staff are always friendly. The food has been great every time we visit. I'm normally out here on this side out town when I take my brother to his orthodontist appointment and that's early in the morning so I never get to try it but I finally got to try it! It was around 3 in the afternoon so they were pretty quiet with just about 3 tables filled. It's basically the same concept as a moes or chipotle but I'm leaning more towards moes where they have items already on the burrito then you can opt out or add on. I order about 4 things in total and one thing I didn't like was service. I had my two brothers with me I had to order for them but it was 3 workers in total when I ordered one by one but I felt like they could have spread the work load and not just stare as the first person as they did everything. I understand maybe each person has their own position but I felt like they could have helped. I got two tacos with chicken and you have the option of hard or soft (which is nice), bowl with chicken, the fire shot, and the jolly rancher with fish. Our favorite with the jolly rancher the fried fish was delicious might wanna go easy on the sauce because that became overwhelming. My burrito was good but it was wrapped like a big ol soccer ball so it kept falling apart. My brothers loved their food and they said they liked it more than moes and that's their top burrito place. I highly suggest this place and definitely a stop by place on the way or back from wilmington. read more
