Good to the last drop

Burnsies, The Coffee Shoppe, Tory's Place, S'elohssa or whatever you call it, it's been around a real long time because it has what it takes to stand. This is a no holds barred place that knows how to endure even when things are hard. Hats off to the owner. But I like to keep my hat on.

Flavorless French toast and a big pat of generic margarine...yum (sarcasm).

A little challenging to find - Yelp calls this Burnsies, but the outside only says "Coffee Shop". This was one of the very few times Yelpers have let me down. I am lost as to how this place has five stars. The eggs were not good. The potatoes were okay, but I have never met a potato I didn't like (I may have a problem there), and the French toast was likely the worst I have had anywhere, anytime. Couldn't taste vanilla, cinnamon, or spices of any kind. The "Maple Syrup" on the my table was equally as bad as it tasted like half water, half syrup - no flavor. The small town diner thing where everyone knows each other, and nothing has changed inside in 30 years can only get you so far - the flavors have to be there and they were blatantly missing last Tuesday morning in Naugatuck. If you are a foodie, you will likely be very disappointed.

Looks pretty good!

Just got done eating the Western Omelette w/ Cherry Peppers added... All I can say is WOW! The perfect amount of spice and flavor combined in one omelette! Among the amazing omelette were home fries and toast, very worthy of the $7.50 I paid. The staff were very pleasant and were very quick. A diamond in the ruff, 5 stars.

This is MY opinion. No critic here, so I don't criticize but rather share honest opinions on services or products.

Whenever I travel to my hometown and see my BFF Lora Kennedy, she's wanted me to try some great small town diner grub at Burnsies (she's got love for the place having worked there for many years). Inevitably, I always seem to miss it due to the diner's hours (or mine). On my last day in CT recently I had to be at JFK for 8am. Lora was driving me, we had just a short time to grab coffee and breakfast before getting in route, not much would be open and we didn't want any McDouchald's or the like. She suggested Burnsies. I must say from the beginning I loved the small town atmosphere, joking and whoa!...did that great smell of bacon, eggs and coffee, all wrapped nicely together grab and pull me in! Bill the owner was busy cooking at the grill and getting out the orders. He made it look effortlessly as he was methodical in his prep and delivery (I'd have been going batty). I noticed how all appeared to feel comfortable. Shoot, Lora walked around the counter and poured our coffee for us just like she was at a friends. Hey, it was 1 less thing Bill had to do! Thanks Lora for suggesting Burnsies and thanks Burnsies for an awesome send off with your delicious BE&C sandwich and hot fresh coffee! For good Americana comfort food, Burnsies is a must when in Naugatuck.

This is the best hole in the walll place I ever been too! I get such a homie vibe when I walk in and the staff was very nice and great. Customer service was amazing the staff had so many regulars return back and they know their orders by heart. You don't even need to say a word and they will already know your order. Steve (sorry I think his name is Steve) the guy on the grill is killing it. Dude is a precision machine of aerodynamics and he can cook! I got the two eggs with toast, hash and bacon and OHH MY GOD BRUH MY BALLS DROPPED. THIS WAS SOME HEARTY SOUTHERN COOKING IN FREAKING NY?! I'm from Texas and they don't even have some breakfast spots like this! Overall check this place out it is amazing!

Burnsies is a hidden gem in Naugatuck, it's the kind of diner you look for in a town. It's a place the locals go, the regulars know your name as does the staff. Food is exactly what you want, fresh, good, fast and inexpensive. Without any reference you could easily imagine sitting there in the 60's and 70's and it would probably look and smell the same. Prices are very fair. I highly recommend the home fries, reminds me of the home fries I had in my youth at the long gone Teds Spa in Seymour. The coffee is exactly as good as you would expect and the cup is always filled. Burnsies is very small so if you plan on going Sunday morning try to go early an

Passed it a million times. Should have stopped in sooner!

Ol' Burnsie really is a master of his craft. He cooked me up a mean french toast stack today.

The interior is modern rustic with a twist of bohemian indie style. There are so many things to look at and be entertained by. The seating options are great and comfy. The service was quick, sweet, spunky, and helpful. I got a frozen matcha with the suggested cheesecake blackberry flavor via the barista and it didn't disappoint. I haven't tried any of their readily available pastries in their display case but I know I will one day. My matcha was around nine dollars, which is what I'd expect from a privately locally owned place like this. Worth it though, esp if you're hanging out for awhile and like great quality. I can see myself coming back one morning and hanging out with someone here. Also, HUGE fan of punk rock so blink 182 in the background is making me stay here until I have to go to my eye doctor appointment around the corner. I feel totally in my element. I'll be back, thanks loaded goat !

I don't say that…read morelightly -- I say it with the confidence of a man who has lived most of his life in NJ and eaten his way through half of Connecticut. Yesterday the Taylor ham was back (cue the heavenly choir), so I did what any self‑respecting Jersey transplant would do: I ordered a classic Taylor ham, egg, and cheese -- salt, pepper, ketchup, of course. And because I've committed to trying something new each visit, I doubled down with an everything bagel stacked with onion, tomato, and honey habanero cream cheese. Unreal. Like, "I need a moment alone with this bagel" unreal. I love this place. The staff. The vibe. The food. The whole thing just hits. It's the kind of spot I openly warn friends and family about -- not because it's dangerous, but because I would go every single day if I didn't physically restrain myself. DeRocco's is my personal breakfast kryptonite. Important note for fellow Taylor ham enthusiasts: I love how thin they slice it here. Makes it super tender and perfect. I'm even considering going double meat next time -- it feels like the portion's been shrinking a bit but honestly, that might just be me wanting more of a good thing. Bottom line: If you're anywhere near Naugatuck and you're not eating here, you're doing breakfast wrong.

I would not be able to recommend this restaurant after our one and only experience dining there…read morelast night. My husband and I are in the area for a weekend getaway and wanted to find a nice place for a date night. We chose Vyne after looking at their menu, which appeared elevated and unique. Pros and Cons below but the spark notes are: Nice atmosphere, good service, bad (and expensive) food. Pros: *The atmosphere is nice. Slightly elevated, beautiful decor, very nice bar area, and the outdoor area is a vibe. *Service was good. Our waitress was kind, efficient and helpful. *Our cocktails were great. Delicious, not wildly overpriced, and fresh. Cons and the reason why I could not recommend going to this restaurant: Overall the food was wildly disappointing, especially at this price point. We paid (with tip and 2 cocktails each) $250 for food we couldn't finish it was so poorly cooked and prepared. * Surf & Turf appetizer (24) - interesting and fresh spring flavor but the shrimp (a main component of the dish) was overcooked. * Scallop entree($44)- Scallops were not cooked well. They were very rubbery, chewy and bouncy. I left two on the plate. The flavor profile was also heavily oil. * Side of Mac&Cheese - now, I have NEVER not finished mac&cheese, it's my absolute favorite food and a treat for me to order. This mac&cheese was so bad that we had 2 bites and didn't finish. For a $9.50 side I would expect something interesting. Maybe a baked dish? Or three cheeses? Anything than what we got - which was shell pasta (undercooked) and a cheese sauce (similar to a Velveeta). There was also a strange aftertaste, almost like a spoiled milk. Besides that aftertaste there was absolutely no flavor. * The Filet Mignon ($52) - maybe the most disappointing of all our dishes with a theme of badly cooked and no flavor. Asked for it cooked medium rare and closer to the rare side - it came to us as a solid medium. The steak didn't seem to be seasoned at all. No flavor. The potatoes had no crisp and absolutely no flavor. There was a generic BBQ sauce on the plate. With no salt and pepper on the table (on purpose with the expectation that everything would be flavored perfectly) it made absolutely no sense to finish a dish that we could make better at home. A truly disappointing meal that we couldn't finish, paid $$$$ for and had to stop at fast food on the way home from because we were still so hungry. I don't review often but I needed to because this is an expensive restaurant for what it is, and I want to make sure people know what they're getting into. Maybe we just went on a bad night, but we won't be going back to find out.

Then came this past Thanksgiving weekend where it required traveling on I-84 from Cape Cod to get to Danbury and my mom, sister and I decided to try you out. Now, I am in the dog house because they want to know when the next time that we are going. I had the chicken club and it was absolutely delicious. A huge piece of chicken with plenty of flavor. My sister had the short rib sandwich and was raving about it once we continued our drive saying she was so glad she had it even though she had short ribs herself for dinner the previous night. I don't know if that's an indictment on her cooking or what, but she loved it. The star however was the cod dinner that mom had. It was one of the flakiest and freshest pieces of fish she had ever had. We got a very late start to our trip, so by the time 2:00 came on the Saturday afternoon came, we practically had the whole place to ourselves. The only gripe that we had ( not that we necessarily would have changed anything ) was that we noticed after we ordered that the table next to us got a specials menu and we didn't. It was nice and quiet as our waitress let us have a quiet late lunch and if we were ever in the area ever again, we would make a b-line back to the restaurant.
