My experience was terrible. Philip Burnham said he could handle a difficult case but he was ineffective from the beginning. He was never prepared. Over billed. My case dragged on and the bills piled up quickly but not really sure what work was done on my case because nothing ever got settled or finalized for 3 years. Very very passive and easily controlled by other attorney. Does not stand up to opposing counsel and allows them to control everything without taking a stance. Poor memory asks same questions over and over. Not responsive, weeks would go by before I would hear anything but I would get bills as if he was doing work. I fired him after 3 years, new counsel settled in 6 months, a settlement I could never have gotten with Mr Burnham. I probably would have owed my ex the way he was handling my case. read more

It's difficult to quantify just how traumatic and life altering my decision to hire Phil has been. They warn you that divorce is difficult, but they do not warn you that hiring the wrong lawyer will make an already difficult situation downright catastrophic. I had many reasons for hiring Phil, but one of the biggest was to prevent the ongoing emotional and financial abuse at the hand of my to-be ex husband. Phil did not help with those areas, and in fact left me in far worse situations than I began in. Communication was abysmal at best - I felt degraded, ignored, condescended to, and absolutely helpless through my divorce process - my ex is only responsible for a small portion of that trauma, the remainder falls directly on Phil - not his team, to be clear - his girls are lovely! Phil however? You'd be far better off representing yourself! His confidence is all bluster, and all he truly cares about is profit; he did such a poor job representing me, that it should be criminal - unfortunately it's not. My experience was extremely bad. My ex husband owned several properties with me and a business partner while we were married for 36 years. I left teaching to take care of our children and then his very ill parents for many years. He and I owned cash businesses (Laundromats and rentals), which he always claimed at a loss. He got into a lot of trouble when he was arrested in NC for stealing all the awards from a company golf convention and was arrested for grand larceny, and then fired. He began using drugs and then sold them...that is when I left. Long story short, he posed as a penniless, going into forclosure (even though our house was worth over $350,000, Not to mention all the properties he claimed didn't pay their rent. The divorce settlement that Phillip Burnham cut with Mr. Hurley, my husband's lawyer was that I PAY HIM 25% of my pension. His SS check is more than my combined pension and SS check now. Is that fair? He has our 4 bedroom 3000 sq. ft home on an acre of land, plus the investment properties, which brings him in a hefty profit each month. How did this happen? DO NOT trust Burnham. He is still billing me for tens of thousands of dollars after I have already paid thousdands of dollars. read more
