I won't get into the details of my civil case or the specifics of the fees, but I will say this office handled a case for me that I could not be more grateful for. No, they didn't win me a large settlement or anything like that. What they did was give me peace of mind at a time when I needed it most, and handled my case brilliantly with a very reasonable flat fee.

Several months ago, I was in the unfortunate position of needing to find a divorce attorney. I made…read morefour appointments with various area law firms (based on Yelp and Google reviews) and then I met with Alison at Bates Family Law. I immediately felt a sense of relief despite the incredible emotional stress I was experiencing. Throughout my divorce case, I was impressed with the efficiency I observed with Alison and every person in her office. Whenever I emailed or called with a question; I received a very quick response. Unfortunately, my case was incredibly complicated for a 15-year marriage without children. Despite the complications, Alison was able to manage my case successfully but I believe it required a professional with her depth of knowledge. Also, the final cost of my case was significantly less than I had estimated, and I am very grateful. I am highly satisfied with the outcome. I am confident the result could not have been achieved if I had signed with a different firm. I highly recommend Bates Family Law.

That, along with conference calls with the court made me wonder whose best interest she was looking out for. She fought me on reasonable settlements and continually urged me to give up most of my self created wealth to my cheating ex. She did not respond to calls, and I even caught her sneaking out of her office shortly after telling her assistant to tell me that she wasn't there. Unprincipled, unprofessional, and unkempt. An all around horrible person who should be disbarred. Go hire a bum off the street. You will get better advice and they will likely communicate and dress better. A damn disgrace to every other lawyer. She is why people hate lawyers.

Run.... Run as fast as you can! This law office is one of the biggest jokes I have encountered!…read moreFor starters, Courtney the "secretary" is the rudest most unprofessional person I have ever encountered... When I asked her for her hours she replied "Maybe ill be here, maybe I wont".. and that seems to be OK with the lawyer Jeff Graff that I had the privilege to talk to today. Actually, Jeff THE LAWYER threatened to hang up on me today when he didn't like the questions I was asking him... You know questions like "How many more months do we need to wait before we can close on this house?" Evidently, months on end are OK with this clown because he doesn't feel it is his job to follow up with realtors or surveyors who are holding up the process. He doesn't feel he needs to "babysit" the people he is working with. In my eyes, when working with clients, you work in his or her best interest... you don't threaten to hang up on the person or drag your feet on things that may not be the UT most important to the lawyer... According to Jeff, THE LAWYER,,, it is OK for his "SECRETARY" to do her thing, be rude, crude and horrible.. furthermore it is OK for Jeff to drag his feet and threaten to hang up on his clients.. and in the end, tell me he is "putting up with me until the closing" Run people, run... There are so many professional compassionate lawyers out there.. Riley, Graff and his secretary aren't one that you should pursue! RUN!

Sadly, I've become an expert on lawyers in my time here in Geneva. Lawyer for property, lawyers…read morefor work, lawyers for everything. Sigh. When I first started writing this review, I realized that it was more of a complaint of other lawyers rather than why I've been so pleased with Heaton and Venuti. That being said, this review will exclusively be about why I'm five-starring them and not about my distaste for other lawyers (well, almost exclusively). Every cloud has a silver lining. For me, that lining was Ms. Eliza Heaton, the newest legal prodigy at Heaton and Venuti. Why have I been so pleased? Would you like it alphabetically, numerically, or in order of importance? I'll do all three. 1a. Quality work. She is very diligent in her work, always prepared, and thorough. It shows in the excellent outcomes and results I've had. No sad sacks here. There is a real pride in work here. 2b. Exceptional communication skills. There is no arrogance and superb follow up on cases. Nothing worse than chasing your lawyer to get an answer and follow up or having your lawyer speak to you in some garbled legal jumble meant to confuse. That has never happened with Ms. Heaton. 3c. Honesty. Now here's a commodity and should arguably be ranked 1a. Her honesty can be demonstrated in three examples. First, one time I asked her a complicated question and she told me, "I'm not sure, I'll find out." She took a day, figured it out and got back to me. Refreshing. Second, she has been very honest regarding the merits of a case and doesn't just encourage a case for her own personal benefit. Third, life always come down to the bill and her billing is clear and fair and honest; not some nebulous arbitrary bill or a psychotic bill listing each phone call or photocopy you were charged for. 4d. Compassion. I know I was going to speak about my positive experiences at H and V, but so many lawyers are so jaded or apathetic that work is just a job or a paycheck as demonstrated by their demeanor and attitude. Every interaction I have with Ms. Heaton has been enthusiastic and really caring about the case at hand. When I work with her, I feel that this case is personally important to her. That's meaningful to me. 5e. Pride. You can tell when someone takes pride in their work. There is a purity to it where the whole is greater than the parts. Once you start working with Ms. Heaton you will see that she takes great pride in her work which in the end is your work because she is representing you. I would strongly recommend Ms. Heaton to anyone looking for a lawyer; she stands for superior to any other lawyer I've used. I think that Ms. Heaton specializes in family law, marital law, and estate planning but will accept any variety of legal challenges on a case by case basis.
