Pretty nice breakfast/brunch spot offering a wide array of American classics. I ordered The All…read moreAmerican (16.75 GBP), which was a typical combo of pancakes, bacon, homestyle potatoes, a sausage, and two fried eggs. It was rather plain/ordinary but certainly not bad. I have to say, the pancakes were a bit on the dry side though. Also, the eggs were sunny side up but didn't actually seem fried at all, as they were super soft without any crispiness. In addition, they didn't even add the slightest amount of seasoning on there - at least a few pepper flakes would have been nice (although there was pepper on the table, but still). The homestyle fries were well-cooked with a good crispiness though. The restaurant has a lower level with some seating as well as a larger upper level. It has a sort of old-timey kind of vibe, with wood panels along the walls and ceiling and a little performance stage in the back. It is conveniently located right next to the Canary Wharf tube station. My waitress was average friendliness and was only moderately attentive, as she never checked up on me during my meal. She also waited until I actually got my food to bring me my water. Overall, The Breakfast Club is a solid option for breakfast/brunch in Canary Wharf with pretty much any of the classics that you could want.

My quest for breakfast nearly turned into brunch due to my questionable navigation skills and…read more(shocker) rain. In my defense there are several rivers/canals I could be walking toward. I just kept finding the wrong one, but TBC made it worth the wait. For those seeking "a little more conversation", stop at the bar for the friendly experience you'd expect. Today I headed upstairs to the VIP Section. Unlike my wife who never saw a pancake she wanted to go home with, I like a menu with plenty of pancake choices. And bonus points if not too many are "exotic" such as cake disguised as compote-smothered confectioners-sugar-laced trendy-named items. Just get me some sort of flapjack with or without fruit. Bonus points if you have short and tall (long?) stacks. And double-bonus if you print "flapjack" on the menu. Enough about the pancakes (my wife is saying). She doesn't even like breakfast so don't listen to her (she'd skip if I weren't always dragging her out somewhere for it). Her loss. But just one more pancake point: I got the blueberry short stack. It wasn't epic but it was a solid +6-7. That works, given my earlier frou-frou comments. I couldn't tell and maybe the maple syrup was imported from Canada (eh), but we are spoilt with our Vermont supply. So no points gained/lost there. I didn't get any baked beans (yes because this was breakfast), but my bacon was tasty as were my two Americanos (aka coffees). If I had for some reason wanted pre-noon beans...I'm sure they would have been lovely, along with all the other varied menu choices I didn't have room to sample. Service was fast and efficient, and they endured my lingering into late-morning. By the time I left it had stopped raining. Will wonders never cease.

The food did not disappoint, the slider was quality, wasn't too heavy, great burgers and chips which tasted homemade and packed with flavour. The staff was also awesome again. Overall great American diner experience. Great for kids and great for pigging out. Be warned milkshakes and desserts are good here.

Another table that just came in was served before us! Even after I mentioned this to the manager who served us, she still had the cheek to say that the cheesy chips were an extra £1, when this could have been the perfect time for her to waive the extra cost considering the length of time we waited. Not only that, she dumped the cutlery at the end of the table and walked off without a word leaving my son to hand them out. Service is very slow and extremely unorganised and the food is pretty average for the price. The Fantas I ordered tasted more like orange squash and fizzy water and considering they were different shades of orange, I believe this to be the case! The strawberry lemonade my daughter ordered tasted like water with a hint of strawberry! My son enjoyed his Oreo Milkshake and the cheesy chips, hence me begrudgingly giving them two stars. They had the balls to add an automatic service charge on top of the cost of the meal, which I made sure to tell them to take it off as the service was shocking! Would I go back, NO!! I only stayed there as long as I did as my son wanted to try it.

We were hungry and were looking for a quick, cheap meal in East Ham but we didn't fancy Indian. So, The Miller's Well it was. We started by ordering a couple of drinks off the Miller's Well menu on the bar. I saw they did cheap cocktails so asked for the Porn Star martini from the list. 'We don't do that here' said the barman. I thought it was odd when it's on their menu but ordered a glass of wine from the list. Again he said that they don't do that there. Finally I got a glass of chardonnay but it was quite vinegary. We ordered burgers and then 5 mins later we were told they only had one beef burger so we changed one to chicken. The chips were good, the onion rings were excellent but the burgers were a huge let down. The chicken was tough, dry and actually inedible in places. I know not to expect a lot in whetherspoons but this was particularly bad, especially the way the barman spoke to me as if I was stupid for asking for drinks that were actually on their menu. I'll definitely stick to the fantastic Indian restaurants in the area in future.

Those who are from London will probably know the early kebab places were always around the Arab and Turkish communities in Central and North London. The hygiene level isn't great and the hygiene rating certificate doesnt seem to be seen anywhere in the restaurant. Their Doner Kebabs are awful and are made from the cheapest to cheapest meat available. Those of you whom are Kebab lovers will know straight away meat is poor quality. But they charge a premium for the Doner by adding loads of salad, fried onions and chilli source so the Doner has taste. They also claim to use home made chilli sauce but infact is just 'Cash and Carry' factory sauce. The fries are ok but they tend to reheat the fries if not sold within 15 mins which makes them taste awful. The grilled Chicken Burgers which are one of their specialities are ok but they all seem to charge different prices. Some works charge £3.00 and others £3.50 which is a joke. Occasionally the chicken will also be undercooked. All their customers are locals who will rave about their Doner and Chicken but those of you who enjoy their food and have eaten around London will know its just awful food. There aren't many other great places to eat in the Upton Lane area so its just best to stick going to Stratford Westfield for a decent Kebab. They have a few branches around East London in East Ham, Leyton and East Ham and they are all as awful as Upton Lane.
