Kabaret Spacek is located somewhat near the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul. The restaurant is…read moreon the smaller side, and has a cozy atmosphere. It is located near some of the schools so many students tend to patronize this place. The food is an eclectic mixture of different cultures, which is sometimes hard to pull off. Restaurants have a hard time specializing in one type of cuisine so branching out to many other different cuisines makes it even more of a challenge. The Pan Fried Dumpling tasted like store bought dumplings that had been coated then fried. They were mixed in with bacon and onions, and served with a massive amount of pickles. As the dumplings did not taste freshly made, this detracted from the dish. The beef dish came with several slices of beef that were fall apart tender, and served with a nice gravy. It came with a generous side salad that was full of fresh produce. The dish was also served with rice. The burger came with bacon and a large chili pepper, stem and all, with lettuce and caramelized onions. The burger was quite tasty, however it would have been better if the chili was cut into smaller pieces for better coverage of the burger, and without the stem. It was served with a small side salad, and roasted potatoes, which were nice and creamy inside. The pound cake has a somewhat interesting presentation. The pound cake was bake in a bundt type pan, but oddly the dessert contained 1 1/2 little cakes rather than just one or two. The pound cake was sitting inside of puddle of crème anglaise with berries and a generous dollop of whipped cream. The pound cake was somewhat dense as you would expect, but not dry. The pancakes were served with bananas and chocolate. When ordering the dish, the waiter described something more akin to a thicker crepe so actually having pancakes was surprising. The pancakes were fluffy but a tad dry. They would have been better if the dough was sweeter, but this may have been a Czech recipe. Kabaret Spacek is a great little neighborhood spot. The burgers are what seem to have put them on the map, along with very reasonable prices and good service.

Forman Beef & Beer is located right near the pick-up stop for the Holiday Inn Brno shuttle. Brno is…read moreloaded with steak places, and Forman was recommended by a friend of ours. The restaurant is nicely furnished and is a somewhat imposing two story building for Brno. The Asian Beef Salad (~$8) was a sparse bed of lettuce, with tender chunks of beef adorning the salad. The salad was a little heavily dressed in a sweet, sesame dressing. Lime was served on the side to help cut down on the sweetness. Two slices of bread were also served with the salad. The Creamy Mushroom Soup (~$3.50) was very rich and creamy. Pieces of mushroom were swimming throughout the bowl. The soup was nicely earthy, and contained something that I could not pinpoint but made the soup intriguing and enjoyable. The soup was strangely adorned with a few slices of beef carpaccio. The Beef Burger (~$9.75) was cooked to a nice medium. The thick patty was nice and juicy. The burger was topped with a slight, overly sweet teriyaki sauce, slices of avocado and a spicy mayo dressing. The interplay between the teriyaki sauce and miso dressing was a rather interesting mixture of flavors. The sweetness was subdued by the saltiness of the miso. The avocado also added another layer of richness. The fries were thickly cut, but could have been crisper. The Rib Eye (~$14.00) was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The steak had a nice beefy flavor. The steak was slightly under seasoned, but juicy. The steak came with a side of peppery arugula, and some gummy mashed potatoes. The Chocolate Cake was very rich and decadent. It came with marinated cherries, which were intensely flavored. The cherries did slightly overpower the chocolate, but it was still an enjoyable dessert. Although Forman is one of the more expensive restaurants in Brno, we had a very good meal and thought it was worth the cost.

The second visit we ordered mushroom soup (because it was just that good), beef noodle soup (very good), steak carpaccio (good), and a beef dish with cranberries and potato cakes (good). Of course we ordered chocolate cake again! I'm not a big fan of dessert but I couldn't get enough of that cake! Definitely plan on splitting it with someone because it's very rich! Our meals the first night came to around $40, and the second night less than $30. Amazing food for SO cheap!
