I can heartily recommend the Shepherd Neame brewery tour - a fascinating look at alcohol production from Britain's Oldest Brewer (a title imprinted on each bottle of their excellent ale). It's topped off by a tasting section of a selection of their beers, which has led me to some new varieties - I now regularly buy their 'Asahi' beer, apparently Japan's number one and brewed right here in Faversham for the UK market. A brilliant way to kill an afternoon, especially if you get the tour guide that I did, who clearly loves his job, unlike so many.

Lunch had clearly satisfied many of the punters present. We weren't in the market for food but perused the menu - impressive without being too fussy, hit the right note. Loos were clean and functional. Overall ambience was good. The Phoenix Tavern was well lit, without being brassy. Decoration was unfussy yet smart. I'll be back!
