A very disappointing experience....I'm an Indian-food lover. I've eaten Indian all over the world and cook it in my home. My best friend is Indian, I work with many, I've been to the country, etc, etc. So, I've seen a lot of interesting variations and have some terrific experiences as well as some less-than-optimal. I think it's fantastic that there was an attempt to bring this amazing cuisine to a place like BH, this, to me, was a failure. The big "Buffet" (see the name) was 6 dishes, 1 of them white rice and another bread (naan for those in the know.) Their portuguese wasn't so great so we switched to English. That didn't work out so great either but ok, I wasn't there to have conversations. I asked about the dishes so I could explain to my fiancé and her mother what was there. The great big explanation of one of the dishes was "it's a curry." I asked several different ways what type of curry and all I got was "there's only 1 type of curry." ok, I knew this wasn't going to be easy or go well. After a while, I try to go with just veg or non-veg. We got through that.
The restaurant itself was below-average, even by BH standards. I say that because BH restaurants (many of them, anyway) are small and don't spend a lot of energy/time/money on the decor (there are some terrific exceptions.) This was below average. Ok, I wasn't there to live, just to have lunch.
So, on to the food....it's a buffet so expections of quality are already lowered, even in Brazil where self-service or buffets are more than the norm. The food was mostly luke-warm at best, unfortunately. The flavors were mostly dull. There was one veg dish that had some decent flavor. I would guess it was a korma of some kind.
The location...it was pretty far from where we were staying so we took a taxi to get there and it seems to be a decent neighborhood which was mostly residential, though there was a pizzeria (rodizio) just a block or two away. read more
