Went to trade. They are very very nice great customer service! With that said if you want to stop absolutely great place to shop! 5 stars for customer service! If you want to trade definitely not a place to go. I'm not sure what they look for but I drove an hour to get there called twice to make sure they were buying and they only ended up buying 4 of my pieces. Passing up Dr Martin boots that they said were "damaged" on the way out I passed a pair of docs that were much more damage then the ones i had. They passed up new clothes with tags too. It was a complete waste of time. I made a whopping 35 bucks there. In 3 days I've made $100 via eBay and offer up with the clothes they didn't buy. My opinion sell elsewhere. I don't always shop but when I do I shop at Buffalo Exchange. Stay Thrifty my friends! I have shopped at four stores including Costa Mesa, Long Beach, Sherman Oaks and Fullerton. All stores have great selections with great inventories. I find BE a step above your average thriftstore when it comes to clothes and footwear, but be ready to pay 2 - 3 times 2nd hand store prices. The Fullerton store is awesome even for old people like me. The clerks are super friendly, responsive and usually really cute. I love their taste in fashion and they are always polite even when telling you your clothes are not cool enough to buy for resale. Purchasing something at BE is always a treat and it is always special. I have found cool jackets for my Daughter, stylish shirts, long sleeves and t's, pants in my big size, a cool Indiana Jones hat I always wear, super cool Tiger sneakers, Pumas, dress shoes and army shirts and REI hiking wear. Other shoppers are usually super cool and don't give you strange looks when you are modeling possible purchases or posing in front f the mirror. All I can say negative about BE is I wish they were around when I was 1/2 my age. I would have been one stylish dude! For fashion and great looking clothes at fractions the cost of retail, seek out a BE near you.... My vote goes to Fullerton store but you will love the Belmont Shores store and others just as much! I'm normally not a thrifter, in fact I never shop at thrift stores for clothes and this store really made up my mind about it. My fiancé raved about this place as I was going through his old clothes and ready to throw out a bunch. He insisted we should check it out and trade in some of our better stuff that is still sellable rather than take to goodwill and such. I saw some of the reviews already on here and they basically sum up the whole thing: don't come here and expect them to buy or trade your old clothes even if they are basically brand new- because they will find SOME STUPID EXCUSE to say to your face about why they won't buy or trade your items. And as everyone else has already said, I'll add that their prices are overpriced even for a thrift store. Many of the blouses I quickly browsed through were honestly priced at a "sale" price of a retail price (example: a simple blouse from a normal store would be regularly $20, on sale for maybe $14. Buffalo would probably try to sell that same blouse that's already secondhand for about $16) Other things that were name branded such as dickies or jansport bags were maybe slightly discounted off their retail value. TL;DR? Coming here isn't saving much money. And for a thrift store they are overpriced, what they have is "average style trendy". But if you somehow find something you really like, go for it just make sure you wash it because THEY DO NOT WASH THEIR ITEMS! read more

Clothes are a bit overpriced in my opinion - I can find a $24 shirt at a regular clothing store. It's a hit or miss place, but you can find good used brands here. Only complaint is they are super picky when selling! I was getting rid of a bag full of clothes from UO, Free People, Pacsun, etc. and they only accepted 2 things. I don't really get the criteria for the clothes here. The Costa Mesa location seems to be very clear in that they want hipstery-trendy clothes. The Fullerton location however, seems kind of confused with no coherent theme in what they buy and sell. But I like that this location is less crowded and there never seems to be a line for selling. And although they didn't buy any of my clothes here, I'm not bitter. I mean, they're a business so they can't just buy everything. I get that. Some people here seem to fell like they are entitled to get their clothes sold just because they are in wearable shape. All four workers that I've dealt with here were really really nice. So I'm giving three stars because I feel like the Fullerton location is more of a "Ross" feeling than a cool consignment store like the Costa Mesa one. I don't buy used clothes but came here to try to sell some clothes that were leftover from my garage sale. After reading the reviews, I wasn't expecting anything which helped. I go into the store, and there was one lady waiting in front of me and she sold a few items. The girl that helped me was very polite and friendly and explained how everything works: if they like any of your items, they give you 35% cash of the price they list it at or 50% trade in value. They obviously want clothes in good condition and that can sell. After going through 2 bags of items, they decide to buy one silky shirt and list it at $10, so I got $3.5 for it. I do enjoy the ambiance of the store and it is super exciting to experience thrifting here. But it is definitely more on the pricy side and some clothes aren't necessarily worth it. I usually come here to sell clothes and they don't take as much as I'd expect but since the store is on the pricy side, selling is quite the advantage and I get enough revenue to satisfy myself. However I don't really think the cash option is worth it so usually I just end up trading. So whenever I feel like shopping sometimes I just bring some clothes that are nice but I actually don't wear and end up trading them in for something I would. The workers are super fun and nice to talk to. They definitely make an effort to keep customers entertained when there are encounters. However I kinda wish they'd switch up the workers that look through the clothes cause the last three times I've been here it's always the same girl. And yeah I like her but I think if someone with a different eye chose clothes it would incorporate more variety. ALSO IF YOUR SELLING. Brand names are good to sell. So I went here with a fellow yelper, but she hasn't posted a review but ours are bound to be different. I really enjoyed searching for different clothes to buy here. They were very organized, i could find things very easily even found something to buy. I'm not the thinest girl so there weren't too many cute things in my size but i found that the men's section was great. I bought my boyfriend 2 shirts and would love to go back for some more. I did notice some of the stuff was a tad overprice in my opinion, but for the most part it was very reasonable. I had a good experience here. I came to sell, and I had a LOT of stuff. I don't think it's that hard to do well at selling, here are some tips: Wash (uhm, duh!) and iron your clothes! You want them to look buyable, so put in a little effort and it'll go a long way. Bring in clothes for the current/upcoming season. Come right when they open and you won't have to wait. A lot of people come to sell every day so keep that in mind if you don't wanna wait. Rifling through the clothes takes time! They don't want outdated trends. So don't go bringing in your Forever 21 crap that's covered in bejeweled crosses and then get upset when they don't want it. Gently used is the key phrase here. I brought in clothes that I had worn at most two times. They are really picky about shoes. I didn't expect a ton of money. I wasn't bringing in designer stuff. Although they did give me a fair price for a UNIF sweater I wasn't into anymore. At least, fairer than what I would have gotten if I had held a garage sale. Keep that in mind-- garage sales suck. Anyway, the girl who looked through my stuff was sweet. She picked a fair amount of stuff and I was happy to take the cash and go. I might have shopped if I had the time, they had good looking stuff. I was a seller for my first visit to Buffalo Exchange. The store is medium sized and there are women/men's clothing, accessories, bags, and shoes. It seems that they have a pretty decent sized shoe collection, I should point out. I waited for about 30 minutes in line to sell my clothes. I had brought a big bag of barely worn Summer clothing, mostly junior styles. The buyer was friendly and after taking some time to look at my items, she picked 2 styles. I was slightly disappointed, but I understand they have to be very selective considering the store size and the amount of clothes they must get every day. Also, the wait was a bit much only to get 2 pieces sold (out of 30 total). You will get more value for the sale if you choose store credit, by the way. despite what everyone is saying, I think ANY thrift store is going to be somewhat overpriced. You can find great deals if you really hunt. Plus, this buffalo exchange is the friendliest one I've been to yet. The staff is absolutely incredible. They remember me whenever I come in and stop to make conversation. They're personable and professional and go out of their way to please the customer. After reading some reviews, I just want to shed light on a few things. They will ALWAYS ask to check your tags when leaving the dressing room. Don't be offended, they are just trying to prevent tag-switching which is an extremely common thing. Also, they are just doing their job. Sorry they can't please everyone. Two, they can't tell someone to NOT come in and sell just because their store is crowded with endless clothing. If they don't buy your clothes, don't be upset. Look around. If they "wasted your time by looking through your clothes without taking anything", stop being so impatient. When you walk in, first thing you will notice is vivacious music playing in the background and smell of herbal incense coming out of the store. The interior visually reminds me of late 70's hippy images. Buffalo Exchange sells used clothing, jewelry, sunglasses, shoes, glasses, etc etc for all generations. I've been coming here for several years now and bought some nice brand name low boot cut and skinny jeans (Diesel, 7 for all mankind, True Religion) at only 20% of actual prices. The store also buys used clothes, shoes, hand bags, wallets, sunglasses, etc etc, but keep in mind that they are really picky about choosing what they want to buy from you. I'd heard people getting upset because they were dreaming and hoping to receive good money in return for selling brand name clothes but get rejected instead unexpectedly. It's not really brand names what they want. They are looking for certain styles. So, be prepared not to get upset. If you are bored and wanna go out for shopping, check this place out. read more

This is a pretty good thrift store. Very friendly and happy employees working here and providing good service. This place seems to do some good work merchandising for ladies but very questionable for the mens. Thrift stores can be a treasure hunt for something good for a good deal. I mean I really had to look through a lot of t-shirts to find one to try one on. Be careful for any holes, missing buttons, or unwashable stains cause that's just some of the undesired problems in a lot of clothes from thrift stores. When you see nothing wrong, I feel that you hit gold! So happy hunting! As a seller, I felt that I had some brand names that they turned down. I'm not quite sure how they decide what they should buy, but I felt that they turned down on a lot of my clothes because they were Men. And looking around the store, there weren't a lot of selection of Men clothing or many Men thrifting. I was definitely at a disadvantage. Oh well, better luck next time or something. Staff quite polite, although busy. Plenty of people lining up to sell their clothes and a few shopping. I don't really like the style here, though -- it seems that they were trying to be so "hip" that the clothes they have look cheap and tattered. I walked in with leather gloves, jackets, boots, and dresses I bought in Paris and London from last season and a few seasons ago and they looked at the clothes and said that "these are nice clothes but this isn't the market...nobody here would buy leather gloves (from Italy)". I believe in quality customer service. You've done a great job Buffalo Exchange! After lagging for 4 years to clean my room and closet, I discovered that I had TOO much clothes, even for a guy. Even found 2 brand new pairs of shoes, that I haven't even worn. I was stoked! On the other hand, I needed to get rid of some of my jackets, pants, and tshirts. I brought over a black bag to the downtown Fullerton store. There was already a small line for selling, I didn't mind the wait. Although they took only 1/4 of my treasured collection, they offered me $60 of store credit or $44 in cash. I wish they had taken more but what stood out to me was the friendly and very welcoming customer service. There was small talk here and there with two of the ladies and I really enjoyed it. One of the lady was in charge of buying my clothes, really cool. She asked me "what my favorite food was?" I was like "STEAK!" but damn she told me she was vegetarian. HOPEFULLY that't not the reason why she decided to buy less clothes from me. The other lady Asian worker, was very cool, and I think she was new. Buffalo Exchange is a small thrift store with high quality clothing (cheaper than American Vintage, better selection than Crossroads Trading company). Unlike Goodwill which takes everything, they have buyers that select items that follow the style of the store or current trends. They have a board that lists what buyers are looking for. The list changes every season, so they probably won't take your super nice winter coat in the summer. Buffalo is known to be selective in their buying, mostly because there's not enough room in the store. Every time I bring bags of stuff, they usually take only a handful (which makes me pretty sad). I usually get about $3 for things that I spent about $40+ on. It's better than nothing I guess. If you have a lot stuff, it tends to add up anyway. read more

My friend Jenn T., who is a super Yelper likes this place for some reason. I have to disagree with you on this one baby girl. To be fair, a handful of stuff I try to sell here sucks. It's stuff I don't wear anymore, but I know that some of the things I've brought in are better than what they have in the store when it comes to quality and aesthetic. Some of the girls here are pretty hot, but holy crap, some of them are tasteless FIDM rejects (I don't mean rejected from FIDM, I mean they're tasteless wannabe fashion students that go to a lame school) that really don't know what they're talking about. They have some gay guys working who are also tasteless. They have some straight guys working who don't even look like they're trying in the worst way possible. If you're going to work at a store that buys and sells clothes, dress better and stop taking fashion tips from Rachel Zoe. Dude, vintage doesn't always mean it's good. Their standards of buying are ridiculously high for a place that sells used, mostly crappy clothes worn by god knows who. My favorite excuse is, "this is nice, but we already have too much of this particular item." Every time I walk out of here, I mutter under my breath, "I hate this store!" Yet whenever I'm around I feel intrigued to go in here. Not much vintage clothing at all, most of it is used-basics-from-the-mall but sometimes I find something special. I decided to trade in some interesting clothes that I'd worn once or twice, some even never, but they refused most of it or wanted to give me a ridonkulously small amount of money for it. I wouldn't recommend trading in your clothes here. I thought it was cool that they had a Buffalo Exchange in DTF. Finally a vintage store that is worth browsing. When I was younger, I thought only poor folk shopped at thrift stores. But, places like Buffalo Exchange and Crossroads taught me that secondhand stores done properly can be a good place to find some good deals on clothing without breaking the bank. I haven't bought anything at Buffalo Exchange, but I have sold things. I realized that many of their buyers really don't know what they are doing since I had some very gently used men's Adidas shoes that I wanted to get rid of and they rejected them. I thought they were crazy...I saw some of the whacked looking shoes that had on sale and these shoes killed those in a heartbeat. Needless to say, I sold those Adidas shoes online and got more on Ebay than I would have at Buffalo Exchange. So like other reviewers mentioned, don't get offended if they don't buy your stuff. I lovee this store. Usually i cant find anything unless im with my friend, but its pretty cool. the location of this store isnt all that great. It took me a while to find this place, after driving past it 100000 times. hah.. I love that you can bring in some clothes you dont want and if your lucky, they'll buy it off of you, but for peanuts. The wait wasn't more than maybe ten minutes, but right after I went to the counter, about six other people showed up, so it's all based on luck. I love this location! I went in looking for an old cowboy hat that actually fits me-sure enough I found two right away. I found slacks for work, non slip shoes, A WHITE ZOMBIE SHIRT and the coolest pair of Doc Martins I've ever seen (and they fit perfectly) Their clothes are amazing and everyone is super sweet and very helpful. Cayla the manager personally helped me get my hat off the high rack (she's pretty cute too). Definitely coming back. The only bad thing about this place are the rude college kids whining about their clothes not being purchased ITS NOT A CHARITY PEOPLE DONT YELL AT THE STAFF BECAUSE YOUR CLOTHES SUCk! But I digress. There was some pretty good stuff, and some not so good stuff, but hey everyone's taste is different. This place is a hit or miss for most people. Selling your clothes there seems to be very difficult for most. Even when they have what they are interested in buying on their board, it is usually rare for them to take clothes. They work by seasons (which is understandable), but i feel that the buying process has become more warped around the individual's preference rather than the store preference. For buying, however, it is much easier. You can get some pretty good deals, but its nothing that i would give it any higher of a rating for. Really the only thing keeping me from saying that this unpleasant, lack of customer service, very bland of a place is a two star is that you can actually buy clothes there. read more

This is the 4th time i've come into this store in the past few weeks, (i prefer the long beach or costa mesa stores) my lil sister goes to school right down the street and she likes to come into this store, (or used too.) I'm not a person who complains or even goes onto these crazy social networking review sites but after my last encounter at this store i just had too. This location by far has the rudest staff out of all the Buffalo Exchange stores. My sister has sold each time we've gone to a Buffalo Exchange and they always almost buy everything... but the attitude on these young kids working (at this location) makes coming here horrible. (hence the bad review)..... So the last time we went last week, while we are at the counter, the lady buying didn't know who or where the label was from, (she asked me) at first i thought well she must be new, then i read her name tag and it said Manager???? When i begun to ask her questions and why she would price my tunic Wallace sweater at $11 and a Gypsy blouse at $14 that's when i knew to not bother taking anything else out. (Me and my sister have been shopping at Buffalo Exchange for years) She then rushed rudely through the rest of all my clothing on the counter and looked visibly annoyed that i asked her questions. I asked her if she knew where some of the clothing we sold were from and she said "yeah, at specialty boutiques".. "or dept stores". (Almost everything we brought in was from Anthro, Madewell or Barneys) We come to stores like this because we think that you know what your talking about and what is fair. She had no idea what anything was label wise, i wouldn't trust this young lady to price any of my clothing (plus - She's the manager??) After all that my sister took credit and we asked her to hold our bags and she told us that they can no longer do that, she looked all too happy to tell me that, very unprofessional. All the employees were too busy talking to each other and we tried to shop for a bit but we just decided to go eat burgers across the street instead. I've never felt the need to Yelp anything or even create an acct on this site until today. No more of mine or my sisters hard earned money will be spent at this location. Ive come here a couple more times since my last review and every time I can't find anything I like. My first review was based on my first visit. I thought everything looked super cool with all the different colors and vintage clothing. I wasn't really buying but just looking around, but now when I come in with hopes to buy something... I can't find anything. The customer service is a hit or miss, there are those who are nice and welcome you with a smile, but some are just plain rude or don't have any expression at all. I tried selling some of my clothes here and none were taken. I would have thought at least one would be picked, but unfortunately my clothes were not up to par. Either my clothes are ugly or they're extremely picky. Don't expect that your clothes will always be chosen.. if it's REALLY in style at the moment then yes.. that is exactly what they're looking for, but why would you want to get rid of clothes that are in style right now? Anyway, unless you're SUPER into vintage, hip, and retro clothes this is the place to shop, but if not, it'll be really hard to find something you like. read more

I have an obsession. And it is Buffalo Exchange. I haven't had any fashion sense at all until recently, and Buffalo Exchange has been very good at easing me into the young adult/professional/cute casual fashion stage. Having gone to a Catholic High School with uniforms, and then living in Santa Barbara and living in jeans, flip flops, and t-shirts, there was never a need for fashion. But now that I've been out on my own for a while, have girlfriends with good style, and wanna look cute for my sexy marine boyfriend, it has been time for a change. Not only does Buffalo Exchange have a great selection of really unique, and even better, cheap finds, but it's fun! You can't miss out on finding something completely hideous/ridiculous and joking to your friends about how you're going to wear it out to the club next week. This location has been better to me than others. While I lived in Long Beach I never even knew about Buffalo Exchange, so unfortunately I've never been to that one. I recently visited the one in Costa Mesa, and to my surprise, I didn't find anything I was interested in. My favorite thing to do is to find something just a little bit quirky that might look weird on and actually try it on, and a lot of times it ends up being really cute and unique. Thanks Buffalo Exchange, for helping me add more fashionable items to my wardrobe.. and because you're so cheap, I get a lot of bang for my buck! As an environmentalist, I especially like that their bags are 100% biodegradable, and that if you opt to not take a bag, you get a token to donate to a non-profit. read more

Their website says something like "If you're not sure bring it in." that message didn't seem to get passed on to their employees who come across as negative and bothered to be looking through clothes. I had a lot of topshop and free people items as well as some nice shoes, they didn't even bother looking at my stuff.
