This is one of my favorite places to shop for clothes, costumes and gifts - the selection is great and constantly changes. Don't be disheartened if they don't take the clothes you sell; the buyers are extremely picky and selective for a reason - they look for quality, condition and keep current trends and the time of year in mind. They also provide an option to donate any items you don't want, so there's no harm in cleaning out your closet and seeing if you can scavenge a few bucks for any old or unworn items in your wardrobe. It's not uncommon to find a great pair of designer jeans for a dramatically discounted price at Buffalo Exchange - I've purchased Seven, True Religion, Paige and Rock & Republic brand jeans there for under $50 a pair, sometimes well under that amount. They also buy back unique, vintage t-shirts and dresses if you want pieces with personality that no one else will have. Their accessory selection is also great - Buffalo has a vast variety of scarves, bags, hats, jewelry and eyewear - I get a lot of gifts for friends and family for reasonable prices from their accessory wall. Also ideal for costumes. For the most part, the staff is pretty nice. Some folks are surlier than others, but once my cashier forgot to ring up a pair of sunglasses I wanted to buy and he gave me $5 off my entire purchase just for being honest! Be sure to be patient when perusing through the racks because you can really find some great treasures if you take the time to look and try things on. Also bring your own shopping bag or backpack. If you forgo carrying away your purchases in a plastic shopping bag, the store makes a small donation to one of 3 local charities that you can choose from. I was all about Buffalo Exchange in high school, but I haven't been able to find much I wanted to wear in the last five years or so. They stock whatever is trendy for the season, and only buy things that fit those trends, along with some items that were sold in stores in the last year. So they're not a true "vintage" store, because most of the stuff in there was sold in stores pretty recently. That can be a good or a bad thing...I've found awesome jeans there, but when the trend switched from skinny jeans to flares, I couldn't find a single pair of black skinny jeans. But I have found some good stuff there, and a number of shirts and dresses, though they were mostly from Forever 21. They have a good selection of shoes, too, if you can get over the ick factor. As far as the jewelry, you're better off going to Target or Forever 21. read more

I don't get the negative reviews, but maybe it's because I don't sell clothing. I just buy, but still!! This is an amazing place to find some cheap duds. I always find good priced items. I usually tend to buy more of the used clothing rather than their new wholesale. When I have a last minute spontaneous theme party to attend, I always find an outfit I need. One day I needed to find a dress for a "Mad Men" style holiday party, and was able to get a vintage dress off the rack less than $10 since it was 50% off. I always find just everyday wear or going out clothes too. Also to Juni that said "if you are above a size 6 your SOL". I'm a size 10 and I never have issues finding my size or finding a size large in their clothing. Here are some of my other deals from when I bought a bunch of clothing in March. Urban Outfitters dress $21.50 (Retail $59). Juicy Couture dress $18 (this exact dress was being sold on Ebay with the tags still on and the retail price was $198). Forever 21 faux leather shorts (still had tags) retail price was $15.80 and I got them for $4.75. Nasty Gal bodysuit $14.50 (Retail $48). Rue 21 High Waisted Skull Skirt (still had tags). Retail $18.99 and bought it for $6. I am never disappointed here. I think you really have to search and have the time to find the steals. If I feel something is expensive, I just say oh well, and move on to the next item. The staff are always nice and every time I have clothing in my hands, they ask if I want to start a dressing room. I haven't ran into a snobby person yet. I recommend getting clothing here, and if you want to sell your clothing, be a vendor at a market, consign, or have a garage sale, so you can sell your clothing for what you think it's worth, instead of complaining because some hipster didn't take your $200 jeans. Tip: The only time it's good to park in front of Buffalo Exchange is during the afternoon, on a weekday, when UT is out for the summer. I've been shopping here for over a year and while I love the selection and sheer amount of options they have to choose from, I go in knowing I'm going to overpay. They bump up their prices substantially because of how close it is to the UT campus and their "hipster" feeling. I can overlook this fact, as well as feeling judged by a few of the snobby employees to find some beautiful gems. HOWEVER - I brought in a small bag of clothes (about 8 items) and two pristine Express suits today to sell. I wasn't expecting much after reading the reviews, but I felt really disenchanted with how picky they were. The buyer was turning down all my items except for one dress while trying to make small talk with me. This system feels very awkward. Why would I want to wait in a line of chairs for 30 minutes (only 3 people in front of me) behind people with entire closets worth of stuff to go up to the counter with my ten things and watch them be judged? They need to figure out some way to "take a number" or a texting system or SOMETHING so that people can look around the shop or go run some errands while they inspect your items. I can get over them being picky because I understand the store's aesthetic but I just don't appreciate feeling like my stuff isn't good enough while being engaged in fake small talk. Not to mention their bogus buyback policy where you only get 30% of their price that I'm sure they change later. Well, it's whatever. I learned my lesson! I'll be selling my clothes at Plato's closet from now on and coming here when I want something trendy and name brand. read more

As far as consignment shopping goes, I will say this place is pretty legit. It's difficult to leave empty handed. If you are looking for casual attire, it's easy to comb through the items, dressing rooms are convenient. I have really small feet, and I was looking for possibly some new summery shoes. When I asked a cashier if there were any 5.5 sized shoes I could sift through she happily told me that she just had some pretty good donations that day and she let me check them out. I managed to leave with a pair of originally priced $180 jack Rogers wedges at a steal of $23! I was thankful that the associate went out of her way to do that. With that said, I think some of the pricing is uneven, though in the case of the wedges that worked in my favor. I have also sold here and while I will admit they are picky - they turned down some really nice stuff - I'm sure they understand better than I do what will and will not sell in their store. For instance, they said no to some pretty nice professional dresses, though I'm sure their location of being located on the drag, with a majority of their customers being college students plays a big part in this. read more

I was a little nervous trying to sell here after reading the horrible reviews, but I had a great experience. The nicest, kindest staff of any Buy/sell/trade shop in the area (I have been to 3 this week). The inventory at this store is decent. There are some higher priced items and some that have small overlooked stains etc. but overall, this place is decent. I will say, there is a bigger incentive here to take store credit rather than cash for sales because the percentage is so much higher with credit. Additionally, they took about a third of what I brought in (around 50 items), which I was pleased with. Though, there were a few items I was surprised they did not take. I think too many of these reviews are people angry that their items were not bought. If you don't want used clothing, or you are easily insulted when people don't like your items, then don't try to buy or sell second hand. read more

I've been to Buffalo Exchange in Denver, Houston, Nashville and Austin, which is my favorite location. I've scored, Rag & Bone, Naked and Famous, and many other high end jeans here. Great selection of men's clothing especially jeans. Today I brought in a bag of stuff to sale and got $70 credit for a pair of jeans (Hudson) a Varvatos Henly, a belt and vintage western shirt. The buyer was very friendly and we chatted a bit while she evaluated my stuff. Great experience and I'll be cleaning out the closet for cash more often. read more

I could tell they had no idea what quality was. Never would I recommend or stop by and wast my time again. I'd rather donate and use as a tax write off. Buying: items are decently priced. I mainly go there for shoes (sneakers!, heels, sandals), jackets, sometimes purses, and other accessories. I don't have the patience to rummage through their clothes. I feel that the clothes could be a bit cheaper. They are second hand after all. I know they do pay attention to brand though. So some stuff is priced fairly. I've had hits with sneakers often. I've had good luck with jackets as well. They have some knick knacks and cool patches as well. Overall, good finds. Selling: it can be tricky, but hey they like what they like. It's never fun selling clothes, whether it be a Plato's or whatever. Everyone is going to say that no one takes their clothes. You gotta remember that they have to sell these things. What frustrates people most is that they have some bleh items in store but won't buy your bleh item that day. But that's not how it works. They are more harsh than Plato's, that's how I feel. Overall, they take what's cool and offer store credit or cash. Sometimes the lines can be long so get there early or expect to be there for a lil bit. Parking sucks lol. Sooooo figure it out. There's parking in the back. Parking in the front. Just don't expect all 18 of your friends to come. Car pool. Uber pool! I find the employees to be a hit or a miss. Some are super nice, give compliments, help you out. I've sold here 2x now and the first time was "eh"... the girl was new-ish I think and had to ask for advice on some pieces before she bought them, and she declined some stuff that surprised me, stating that they don't look at labels or designers, they only look at trends. I get that, but the clothes were current, expensive and barely worn and I was able to sell them elsewhere for a decent price. The next time I sold I literally had my entire closet with me (I'm moving out of the country and getting rid of everything) and I wish I can remember the name of the girl who helped me - she's been working there for years, she looked at labels and I walked out with a BIG check and donated the rest. BEST. FEELING. EVER. She was quick, efficient, friendly and I felt like I was in good hands. I have two last bags of clothes (I swear I keep thinking I'm done but there's always more somehow) and I'm curious to see how it goes today. If I get someone else and I'm not feeling it, I'll wait and go back another day and see if it's different - I'll update this review if its update-worthy. So I'm giving 5 stars because my second trip was so great, and I guess you have to learn somehow so I don't want to criticize the first girl I got, but they were 2 very different experiences. My advice would be, if you feel like your first quote wasn't great, hold onto your stuff and go back on a different day in a few weeks and try for a different buyer and see what happens... Overall, I've sold at uptown cheapskate several times and while they did take some designer pieces that weren't as trendy and that buffalo didn't take, buffalo pays WAY better and I like that they do it all in front of you. I first started at this Buffalo Exchange as a shopper and although the prices are moderately high and I don't always walk out with something, I enjoy every second in it. There are really cool finds and treasures to explore and even get inspiration from for your own outfits. I then experienced selling at this location and it was a wonderful experience. The employees were so nice and walked me through the process since it was my first time. They priced my items individually and were so friendly and patient with me. I tried to sell here and got denied service because I had too many clothes with tags on them. I provided all of my info to run a report or do whatever. I didn't steal, so obviously nothing was going to come out of the report. I lost 100 pounds and had to sell basically everything. In any case EVERY TIME I've gone back since: 1. "Do you have your ID" 2. *hands Id to rep, *rep looks at screen 3. Rep squints eyes at screen and does a double take 4. Goes through each item one by one and hands it back because of the "condition" LOL - Everything I was selling had been worn once or twice. I tailored all of the bigger stuff that were my favorites. The last time I was here, the unthinkable happened: I got an actual compliment from one of the hipster salesgirls. Yes, yes, it's true. I. received. a. compliment. about. my. AGE. from. yon. whippersnapper. salesgirl. After my knees almost buckled and propelled me towards one of the racks of jeans and funky corduroy pants, I regained composure like a normal 30-year-old might. I promptly whipped out my cell phone and called GOD because I assumed that the other signs of the apocalypse were coming and I wanted to be prepared for LOCUSTS IN FEBRUARY. So how exactly did this come to pass? As follows: I come in with a bag of old spring/summer season pants. Two minutes later, all but one gets put back in my bag. The girl, who has black hair and is your typical hipster in an everything-I-wear-is-under-$10-but-artfully-thrown-together-because-I-am-only-partially-colorblind kind of way, really does helpfully explain, when I ask why my clothes don't make the cut, how things from major chain stores like Old Navy don't sell well and something about the tags indicating a particular fashion season and thus they don't want to overstock on styles. Yada yada. It actually was a helpful explanation, as opposed to some of the other reviews of Buffalo Exchange which indicate haughty attitudes and can't be bothered demeanors. I take it to be the luck of the draw when reselling, honestly. Then, this took place after I said I would take the paltry $5 for my one worthy pant: Hipster Girl: So I just need to see an ID so I can write you your receipt. Me: Cool. Here. HG: (staring at ID with the inspecting eye of a border guard) Ah, this expires this year. Me: Yeah, the address is wrong, too. Luckily I have 7 months to worry about it. HG: It's real easy. You just go online and they issue you the new ID with the same picture. I'm 26 and still have the same one from, like, 19. Me: (laughing in embarrassed manner) Yeah, I'M 30 and still have my one from 25. And yes, I'm keeping the damn picture. HG: It's a good one. (slowly looking from ID to me, then back again, almost incredulously, as if she had found Waldo) You look EXACTLY the same, ya know. So when my old and decrepit brain processed this compliment, I immediately knew I was raising the star level on this joint. It's not every day that you get such flattery from a young hipster. In fact, I'd bet it would be easier to separate Britney Spears from her fucking venti frappuccinos and dirty Rite-Aid pregnancy tests than to expect compliments from the staff here. I came in here with my one-year-old son because it was a boring summer day and I had some clothes that no longer fit (see one-year-old son reference, above), but were too nice to just give away. Most were bought at Anthropologie or Urban Outfitters within the past 2-3 years, so I thought I'd get some decent money for them. Well, I was wrong. When I first arrived, it was pretty crowded and the line to sell was long, so I thought I'd look around first. I saw some things on the rack to suggest that the clothes I brought, especially the 4 pairs of skinny jeans that no longer fit over my large postpartum ass, would find a nice temporary home in the store. I picked out a few things to try on, then waited in line to sell. The buyers were smiling and friendly, chatting up those in front of me as they looked through their clothes. When I arrived at the counter, their demeanor changed instantly. I get it; we can't all like kids, but at least pretend for your own sake....that pinchy look on your face when I approached the counter made you look constipated, overly-dressed 19-year-old. Besides, my little dude was being an angel right then. The girl barely glanced at my items, and when I asked what kinds of things they were looking for she said, AND I QUOTE, "we don't really cater to mom-types here." Well, fuck you, Buffalo. I like buying trendy clothes, there I said it. I want three or four things that will get me into whatever bar of my choosing when I decide it's my night to find my way there. I want a kick ass print-tee with a whale and a pair of chopsticks in some collage of day-glo 80's inspired splatter. I want a members only jacket and an argyle sweater that I will wear only one time and cast away to the corner of my closet when the mood strikes. This is where I go to find those things for not-so-much coin #on the reg. I am unrepentant in my search of silly out-of-my-age-bracket clothing choices to the point of completely ignoring scoffs from people older and younger than me. Ask me if I care. I do not. I don't speak with authority on everything, but I do know trends (been around long enough to observe a complete cycle). I know something about style and am not afraid to wear it and experiment with it. I can always find something that I will be very willing to wear at this store that some would dub a hipster den of iniquity. This afternoon I walked in to sell a Zara suit and another pair of Zara trousers (in great condition, clean, and of which I spent a good hour ironing last night), and noticed the line to sell clothes was pretty long. I go to the counter and ask if they'd be interested in these 3 items and am told "We don't usually buy suits but oh yeah - that's Zara? We definitely buy Zara." Again I confirm that it will be worth waiting in line and the girl behind the register agrees. 40 long minutes later my name is called. A different girl takes a few seconds to look at the clothes, and says "ok we're going to pass". I told her I was assured by one of her coworkers that Zara suits are bought, and that's the only reason why I waited 40 minutes in the middle of my day. She looks at the manager who says, "Sorry lady" in a snotty tone. Horrible customer service and I definitely did not appreciate the attitude! read more

Honestly, I can kind of see both sides of the Buffalo Exchange argument: if you have clothes that represent an attachment to you, and you sell them back expecting these guys to monetarily synchronize that attachment, it stands to reason that you'll likely walk away less than completely satisfied. My experience here has been pretty positive, however, mostly by virtue of the fact that I only expect from these guys what I can get, namely, some haphazard castoffs bookending the occasional rare nouveau uncovering, some by and large cool threads that tend to cost me generally about a third or less of what they'd run spanking new, etcetera. I feel like I have a sense of their stocking philosophy (at least with regard to what hits the floor), and it works for me. It helps a little that these guys are pretty good when it comes to contributing to charity too..the whole bag/token thing is nice. On a gag, I tried on some white jeans that I didn't know were skinny. Trust me when I say I wouldn't share that tragedy with anyone anywhere other than in print, and I didn't realize they were 'skinny' until I tried them on, but I just about laughed myself out into the street. So that happened. And when I have something to sell back? I think long and hard about bringing stuff in...but usually I don't. At least for me, it's just easier that way. read more

I don't entirely understand how the staff is dressed like clowns, the racks are stocked with damaged or torn items (which are way overpriced for resell clothes) and yet they pass on perfectly good, worn once NAME BRAND clothes. After being told that my clothes had "too much wear", I was totally over it because what I brought in was barely worn at all and compared to some of the clothing they sell, my stuff was brand spankin new. Although, I will admit that buffalo exchange does pay at a higher percentage than other resell stores when they buy your stuff, I am not impressed with my visit today. When I went to the other side of the store to collect my $16, the girl behind the counter was rude and disengaged. She asked me if I had anything fun going on that evening to which I responded no, and she didn't even bother to look up at me and said "mmmm that's awesome," in the most sarcastic tone you could imagine. I took the rest of my stuff and gave it to goodwill. They deserve it. Can't take this staff seriously with how they present themselves. The air in this place is just kind of.... I had a closet full of cool things that I don't wear much. Thought about donating, but honestly some of this stuff would go unappreciated in a goodwill store. Either that or someone would grab them for 2 bucks at Goodwill then run off to Buffalo Exchange and sell them. So then I went to yelp to look for used clothing: buy, sell, trade and found Buffalo Exchange and Plato's Closet. My clothes were all name brands, but not teeny bopper brands like American Eagle, Hollister, A&F....none of that. Mostly Levi's (capital E Jeans & Jacket, and three pearl snap shirts & some vintage corduroy pants) Nike collector edition Dunks, and some Hugo Boss stuff that was really expensive when I bought it new. Based only on the reviews I saw here, I determined that the Buffalo Exchange sounded a bit like a pain in the ass where a bunch of hipster snobs would rummage through my clothes and tell me I sucked generally as a person. On the other hand, I got the sense from the reviews that Plato's closet would buy more of my stuff and be less snobby. I wasn't looking to pay rent here, just wanted to get rid of a couple pieces without just giving them away. I took the same two bags of about 18 pieces to each store. Plato's closet offered me 20.40 and would only take 5 pieces (obvious ones...like a pair of brand new creative recreation shoes that are 140++ new). Also, they were totally snobby and super annoyed by having to look through another bag of used clothes. I dropped my bags off and 30 minutes later they called me and said we only want five pieces and this is what we'll pay. When I said kindly, and without any sense of snobbery, do you know the difference of the capital E line and regular levis? The girl said "No, but this what we pay for used Levis. (For the record, Capital E Levis are about 179.00 new and are pretty limitted production. I prefer them for the fit and the durability over the regular levi's, not solely because they're expensive) Buffalo Exchange, however...totally nice. Walked in to a nice greeting, and despite the store being absolutely PACKED, they took my stuff immediately and started the buying process. They told me very clearly how it works: W'e'll look over each piece, tell you what it will sell for in our store, and we'll pay you 50% of that in trade or 35% in cash. Super, SUPER helpful to know. She priced out the pieces, when she had questions about a special line she asked me, and when she got to my Capital E Jeans she priced them a little low. Without me even saying anything she called over a manager and said "I noticed these are capital E's, does that mean anything?" He said yes, they're sweet, pay more. She then raised the price on my Cap E's. Buffalo Exchange would have paid more than triple the price Plato's closet offered on the five pieces because they are up on what's cool, what's limited edition or rare production, and generally speaking, look for stuff that you can't just go down to Forev 21 and buy. Further more, they bought almost every item I brought in. The only three things they so kindly turned away was a North Face jacket, a cool hoodie, and a nice sweater....only turned them away because of the weather right now and encouraged me to bring them back in come fall if I still have them. And then with regards to the shopping selection, for me, there was not a single item I'd have purchased at PC, and at Buffalo Exchange they had enormous amounts of cool stuff. read more

The Great Wardrobe Purge of 2009 was in full swing, and while old Ralph Lauren cargo pants and highschool T-shirts were carted off to Goodwill, I saved some choice pieces for the consignment route. This review dovetails the Second Looks review I've done, so this would be the sequel. I read a magazine article on AOL News (you know, one of those fluff pieces) that said if you're strapped for cash, don't throw out the hideous sweater you get from Grandma, take it to a resale shop and get the cash! Bullshit. I wasn't strapped for cash, but It just seemed inappropriate and almost a tad cruel to just dump off my old,designer clothes at a Goodwill. I thought if I had to get fat and grow out of my custom tailored Gucci jeans, I may as well sell them and give some hipster at UT the chance to find a deal and enjoy them. It works like this, and they give you the rundown when you're there, so newbies listen up. They look at your clothes, and if they think some pretentious downtown college student or a quirky fashion design girl with rainbow leggings would like your stuff, they put a price on it. You get a percentage of that price. So for example, my Gucci jeans, purchased at $400, worn a few times, but otherwise perfect condition, were bought for $32.50 and I got around $18-20 of that. Other "acceptable" items for them were shirts by Roberto Cavalli, Versace, and a pair of John Varvatos pants. They say they only buy what they consider is "in" and "relevant" for their customers, or if an item is especially "vintage" in nature. Higher end denim like True Religion, Sevens, and Diesels also find a good home. But you don't get squat for them. The lines are always long, usually with people who bring absolute crap in heaping boxes and hope to make a killing out of selling ratty gym shorts and Payless shoes that probably came apart a week after they were bought. These items, and the majority of items, are tossed aside and rejected. Not to belabor the point, but I brought in almost $1500 worth of designer clothes (that were not so trendy that they couldn't be worn today), and got a whole $50 out of them. You get more for store credit, but you have to be a heroin addict to fit into the majority of their clothes. But, I did feel better that my clothes did seem to go to the right place. I get the sense a lot of people leave disappointed from this place. But if you know what to expect, the optimistic crash doesn't hurt so much. I have NO idea what the buying side is of it; I've had friends of mine who have made some great finds and some think it's just a bunch of junk. I'll let other reviewers go there. The staff was nice, if they weren't treating the decent clothes you've brought in as if they were covered in dog crap and they only deigned to purchase them for some obscure reason. DO NOT SELL HERE. I gave them over 5k worth of designer items and they gave me ZERO dollars for them. They said it was because they "predicted that the items wouldn't sell." They stated that they wanted a more "modern style". Yet if you wanted modern items, wouldn't you just go to a normal store instead of thrifting them?? These items were only a few years old.. Also when I visited the store, it seemed like they had very cheap/ basic items hanging on the racks. Terrible experience, would not recommend buying or selling here. read more

This place is super disorganized in both the way it looks and their selling procedure. You have to wait in a row of chairs where you're stuck there guarding your stuff and wasting time while you could have been shopping. The clothes were older and unstylish BUT incredibly overpriced for it being a 2nd hand shop. Employees have attitude for days. Anyways would never frequent this shop again. If only there was a Crossroads in Austin. Yes the peeps at Crossroads have attitude too but at least the clothes are cute and stylish. read more

As an ex-buffalo exchange employee of four years, I understand what its like to be a buyer for this company. People always giving you mean looks, judging you while you judge their clothes, and constant criticism from customer who you just denied cash to. That said...what happened to you buffalo? Even though I haven't been with the company for over a year, my friends still call me complaining about the attitude they received on their most recent visit and about how "they didn't take anything from me!" I have always replied with the same answer...what do you want me to do? Secretly though, I kind of have just thought my friends were being overly sensitive, that is until I went in to sell myself the other day. The girl who bought from me was still in training (no complaint there, I too was a trainee and I know what its like) but I also know that being in training means you have to have someone who ISN'T in training buying alongside you and assisting in the buy. Instead the girl sifted through my items (alone) barely looking at what I had brought in and created a pile of rejects to be "double checked" by a trainer. I guess these days double checking has changed in definition, because the trainer merely skimmed the pile with her hand while turned the other way talking to the people behind her--literally she didn't look at a thing--and agreed with my original buyer that there was nothing they could buy. My favorite part is when they give me the explanation about why they couldn't take anything (I taught the people who taught you how to give that same BS speech, spare me please.) Now, I understand that fashion changes, and the way companies work change, and more specifically, I understand Buffalo's system and that there is never any 100% way to tell what they are going to buy based on season, condition, what they already have in stock etc. That said, I still know what to bring in and I would never bring in a bunch of crap. The result of the hands-off buying technique resulted in them passing on my William Rast shorts, Rachel Comey dress, and a few other nice designer items. I will put in the disclaimer that this is not always the case when selling to buffalo, each store, buyer, and all around experience will be different and it is always worth looking through if you are near a store. I even went in again tonight and my selling experience was quite pleasant. I have found some of my favorite clothing items at Buffalos around the country and at some slammin deals at that. My word of advice? Stay at the buy counter when they are buying from you, not only is it interesting to watch the process, but you can keep an eye on their buying (or lack there of.) read more

I don't get it. I seriously don't understands the science behind picking and pricing clothing in this store. I come here every couple of months to see if I can get some decent work clothes, (blouses, slacks...etc) sometimes just to look around. Why is a cut up t-shirt, that some girl obviously did in her bathroom, $13 but the express blouse I bought $6? Oh and the sweater that looks like it came out of my mothers closet from high school $25 dollars but the all leather sandals with the $60 dollar price tag only $15? I'm not complaining about the clothing I find that is cheap, but sometimes, I want to have to not worry about spending TOO MUCH. Also, your staff cracks me up. 'Nuff said. I'd never sell any of my clothes to you guys. I have once and let me tell you what they took: Nirvana shirt that I bought from JC penny for $5. Three of them actually-- all different. I'd had them for YEARS too. That was it. I had a legitimate 1940's dress in the bag of clothing, that I bought for $70 dollars, they would not buy but asked if I would donate it... UM NO. WTF? Honestly, I have mixed feelings about Buffalo Exchange. And to be frank, I have mixed feelings about having mixed feelings. I'd go on, but the mind can only endure so much. On the one hand, it's a dashing and quaint little shop staffed by an armada of elegantly-tattooed punk rocker chicks who are unexpectedly friendly and likeable. Yes, apparently when the moon is full, everyone from Beauty Bar comes here instead. Great, great, great. The problem is that actually finding some fresh threads worth my money is about as likely as a million monkey team randomly typing the opening sentence of Hamlet. It'll happen eventually, but do I really want to wait for that shit? And in the rare event that I stumble upon a cool shirt, I can't help but think about the greasy hipster chest it has been lovingly nestled against for oh so many months. I'm not trying to exempt myself from cultural or sartorial criticism. After all, I'm just a caveman chode who likes to cruise down to Barton Creek mall in his pimp as fuck 92 Camry while playing Shakira at exceedingly loud volumes. But you know where I sell my old shit when the trends change and I have to run to Urban Outfitters for some new pantaloons and an eye patch or two? Buffalo Exchange, that's where. Ladies if you plan on selling your old clothes, be prepared for most of them to be rejected. Gentlemen, bring baseball caps and shoes if you want Buffalo Exchange to buy from you. Go early to avoid the long wait line. Buffalo Exchange has tons of clothing options for you to browse endlessly. There will occasionally be an item you find that you can't resist getting. Also a good costume idea place. The women's section is larger compared to the men's. They also have a fitting room if needed. Parking is limited. I do NOT recommend parking in front of Buffalo Exchange because your car will most likely scrap the cement and it's a pain backing out with all the incoming cars on Guadalupe. My Buffalo Exchange review is going to be very like my Beauty Bar review, which I feel is super appropriate. Basically, there is a strategy. I keep a paper sack in my room at all times. When I do laundry, as I fold things to put away (or when some occasion requires me to unearth some dress pants that haven't seen light in two years), I find items that don't fit or that I am simply done with. I toss them into the bag. The line for buybacks is shortest right at opening on Sundays, so once every couple of months I paw through my dress collection and drag out a mixed bag of things I bought at Buffalo that I never wear and things I bought 5 years ago that I've done to death. Then I drive up to Guadalupe and saunter in right around 12 PM. I toss my bag on the counter and cultivate a bored expression while they dig through my clothes. Inevitably they pick something I bought at the outlet mall 4 years ago, but discard a relatively new item from an indie label, but I learned a long time ago that questioning their motives won't make a bit of difference. Once I have my total (and I have made very good money here before), I take my bag back out to my car. In a few months, I will bring those same items back again with a few new ones thrown on top, and guess what? At least one of those discards will suddenly be acceptable. Four stars rather than five because finding something I actually like is very hit-or-miss, none of the employees apparently know how to size items, and I still don't understand their t-shirt buybacks at all. My t-shirts are always "too worn" for them, which makes me wonder if they have SEEN the t-shirts that are on the racks. read more

I've been in several times to consign clothing that fits everything they are looking for at the time and they either give me a REALLY shitty price for it, or don't even take it. Of course, I always wind up finding clothes I left with them to be donated on the racks the next time I go in, which is kind of a scam to me. I'll also find things other people have brought in that are stained or have holes, but they won't accept my only-worn-twice pants because they are wrinkled? Is it because I don't weigh 90 pounds? On top of that, welcome to the most pretentious shopping experience ever - some of the girls that work there should be fired for how rudely they treat customers who "don't look like them". OH, and apparently one of the managers here assaulted a customer (burned him in the face) and had him kicked out of the store when he went in to buy a shirt. Eh - hip is good, stylish is good, recycling is good, unique is good, weird is good, cute is good, edgy is good, hot is good. It's all good here in the material form. But uh - this place kind of reminds me of Spider House when it comes to the overall ...... not nearly as cool as it thinks it is. HINT: Cool is something that does not require trying so hard your head explodes; more attitude does not automatically equal more cool. Reading these reviews, I feel compelled to write some rebuttals: 1. Don't come into this place expecting thrift store prices. It's not a thrift store. It's a resale/vintage store. Yes, the prices are going to be higher than Goodwill. But you're also more likely to find high-quality/ unique items here. Due to the high volume of hipsters in Austin, all the thrift stores are picked clean. 2. I don't think it's fair to give this place a bad rating because they won't buy your low-quality or out-of-fashion clothing. I have seen a guy literally yell at a buyer because she priced his Ed Hardy (barf) jacket for $40. Apparently he thought it was a rare vintage item that would appreciate in value over time. Seriously? 3. Yes, there are some duds in here. Some days, there are lots of duds. But there are also some amazing deals. Just this weekend, I bought a pair of leather boots that retail for $180 for a cool $60...and they looked like they'd only been worn once or twice. That's what I call a great deal :-) read more
