We were happily surprised by this little museum. The old casino building was once part of a complex…read morewith a neighboring hotel (long since demolished) and was built in a grandiose style with lovely details that have mostly been preserved or recreated by the museum. The entrance was free on the day we went and even on paid days is pretty reasonable at 30 pesos. The beautiful staircase and ballroom with its giant crystal chandelier take you back to another time. The solid but small collection of art in the downstairs level contains some large paintings that allow one to contemplate Argentine history especially in relation to water which feels quite relevant given the museum's location on the river bank. There is a small cafe in the museum, but it seems a shame to eat there, as it has no view of the river, and there are so many wonderful little spots in Tigre with a view or outdoor patio. The museum is the perfect size for an afternoon escape back in time on a rainy day. You can run through the exhibits in under an hour, but around two hours seems to be enough time to see everything including the grounds.

That's one thing I adore about Buenos Aires: tons of museums. Also, tons of *free* museums. And…read morethis is one of them, yay! Definitely worth a check-out if you're into old architecture, furniture and decorations. It's basically an old mansion, decorated as it was back in the 1800s. And there are descriptions of each room in English, double yay! If it's free, it's for me! However, walking around this place will make you feel poor af. It's still an interesting spot to check out though.

The admission fee is so minor that there's little reason not to check out Centro Cultural Recoleta…read moreif you're nearby (it's beside the Recoleta Cemetery) . The guidebook I had pretty much said the same, so I made time for this place and set my expectations accordingly. Your feelings about this cultural center will likely vary depending on the exhibits currently running. There's a wide variety of art on display and it just keeps unfolding. I found my sweet spot in the building that sits across the courtyard from the building in which you enter. It was in that building, in a food-adjacent show, that I watched a video on hummus that amused me beyond reason. I liked a lot of other things here too and appreciated that each new room I entered featured something totally unique from what preceded it. Buenos Aires is a great museum town and I'm not suggesting that this should replace visits to any of those. But if it does, you might not even care. I was super-glad to have made time to experience Centro Cultural Recoleta.

They have a wide selection of homewares (cups, mugs, glasses, plates, pots, etc.) which are cool as well as random little deco pieces, jewelry, pens, wallets, books, posters, wall art. It is rather hard to list everything as the selection is so varied and the style pretty diverse, probably if I had to nail it down it would fall under indie/young adult/hipster/arty but that doesn't quite cover it all. The nice part is that they work with a lot of different brands, some big and others small so you have a ton of options to choose from. You can pay with credit and its nice to stop in every once in a while if I need to get a gift or pick up a little something. I've never really interacted with the folks at the store, it is kind of more a browsing experience as the store is rather large but I guess if you ask them for tips they would point you in the right direction.
