When asked a worker if they had any more of a product we were looking for, he said that if they did it would be hanging on one of the hangers in the store somewhere. wow. When I walked my cart back into store, another employee saw me trying to get in the door and turned his head and continued walking. Any normal person in Texas would have offered to hold the door OR taken the cart and rolled it inside four feet to the cart parking area. Just not quality service anymore. We are regular shoppers, and this was not a one-time experience. The service and expectation today was that of a fast food place with teenagers drawing a check, but not wanting to work. He's told me many things about great scotches and bourbons, most of which I generally then buy and enjoy! I've also bought many bottles of wine based on the recommendations of Gerald, the store's wine manager. Debbs is a well-run, well-stocked store with pleasant, affable people running it. I've always had a good experience there; the kind of retail experience you can't get from the huge supermarket operations. The pricing is reasonable, the advice is spot-on, and range is all the way from everyday bottles to very high end. I really cannot recommend them enough!

Gerald has hand-picked a great selection of wines and he is perfect for helping you find the bottle you need. Super-nice dude, too. I use each local liquor store differently - I tend to hit up Miller's for craft beer (also because it's right next to my house, and I buy a lot of craft beer) and I head to Debb's on Phelan when I need wine. I go to Sam's Package Store on East Lucas when I'm in the market for liquor, particularly Texas craft liquor. Honestly, though, all three are solid and you can feel confident going to Debb's for craft beer, wine or liquor.

I wish we could have just sat and worked through their whole menu... we'll definitely be back next time to sample more. On this first go-round we had the meatball apps and boudain eggrolls. The meatballs were very tender and well seasoned. You only get theee per order but they are a nice size, not tiny. The eggrolls were delish and paired wonderfully with the mustard dipping sauce, but I thought they could use a boost of spice in the boudain - between the fried wrappers and the mustard, the nuanced flavors of the boudain itself gets a bit lost. Still excellent. For the beer we opted for No One Asked, which is described as a brown ale but drinks more like a porter and was a nice choice with all of the apps and pizza. We settled on the Meat Machine for a shareable pizza but I would have also loved to try the Gochu-Gang and the Herbed Ricotta, but they all sound creative and tasty... so many options, so little time! If you haven't been here yet - DO IT!
