What a relief to get out of the city. Being our first visit, it's always a little unsettling not knowing the details... but ADVENTURE calls! We booked unserviced sites with a friend before COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, so originally were to be separated by a single spot. When we arrived, we were pleased that our host had been able to reassign us to adjoining sites. Close but distant. Nice. Being so close to Edmonton, it was a great drive. Some of the township/range roads are gravel/dirt, so after all the rain lately, a few spots were iffy and soft. Not reallybad, and certainly not enough to discourage us. When we drove in, our host was careful to observe distancing, and you call or text for directions to your site. Directed us to our group and we easily set up our RV. Site was clear and easy to access. Minimal levelling needed, but bring blocks in case. It's not compacted gravel pads, and if it's rained the ground can be a bit soft. Spots are generously sized and well-treed but definitely space for some sunlight. All sites have a steel tire rim fire pit, and a picnic table. There is no defined parking location in the unserviced spots, so you can park where you need to for levelling, and still have plenty of room to play games on your own site! Book serviced or unserviced sites. Rates are very reasonable. For 2020, the rate was $20+tx for unserviced, $30+tx for 15/30A power & access to water. Not sure if there's a line in your site or if you have to haul it - did not look! No sewage connection available at your site. You will have to dump at their cistern, so you either haul the RV to the dump spot, or will need a honey truck to take over and dump. There are also seasonal rates. The website says they currently have 30 large un-serviced sites for tent/RV and 16 with 15 and 30 amp service each site approximately 40 ft. wide and at least 40 deep. There are several playgrounds and wide open areas to toss a ball or frisbee (with little to no risk of a foul throw hitting anyone's campsite), and a tether ball. Horseshoe pits (one spike, bring a 2nd if you need it), lots of picnic tables and garbage cans all around. There are two privy's (outhouses, biff, loo), with solar lighting, clean, virtually scent free and plenty of toilet paper. A+ as we were only using our RV toilet as necessary. Birds, yes, so many many birds. Robins, many varieties of sparrows - even spotted a Lark Sparrow - one that is rare for the area and reported it to Cornell with the eBird app and they've been in touch! Butterflies, many species, and we did see one bat. Mosquitoes... what do you think the birds are eating? YES bring repellent and bite stick. Wear the right clothing. We saw deer tracks, but no live ones. The hosts have a couple of darling dogs, and some other critters too. We enjoyed ourselves - it was so quiet... no trains, no sirens, great to be out of the city. There are year-round site rentals - the folks we met (early season... not everyone was out when we arrived), were really friendly. Many working on their decks, sheds, and other site improvements. Note - the phone is generally answered 9am-5pm, but they lock the gates at 9pm... be home or you may be sleeping in your vehicle! Looking forward to our next visit. read more
