When I called the intake coordinator at Elk & Elk, she was rude, and said "This is not a case we would take. Do you even know what the survivability rate is for stage 4 lung cancer?" Of course we know. What a thing to say to the wife of someone with stage 4 lung cancer. As if, oh well, his survivability chances are not great, so we won't waste our time. Well, then it is a possible wrongful death lawsuit. Thankfully there are more empathetic, caring firms out there whose coordinators are properly trained to deal with grave illnesses, the people and their caregivers trying to cope with them, and who can see the errors could have been fatal, or still could be, but they were egregious errors, nonetheless. A blast in the face reminding us of how fragile he is, especially after the standard of care was deviated from not once but twice was not at all what we needed. On that day, I was in a serious car accident and broke my back. The pain in my back got to the point I needed surgery in order to walk again.
