Rented a car rather last minute in September, we booked it online the day before we needed it…read more Inventory was low, and due to the time constraints the price was trending high - roughly 130 euros for an automatic economy car for ONE DAY of driving (we were literally picking it up at 8am in Dresden, and dropping it off in Berlin that evening). For another 20 euros we could have an upgraded vehicle, so we opted for a luxury car which they advertised as being available - a Mercedes or Audi, for 150 euros. When we arrived at the office to pick up the car, we were given a VW Golf, not a luxury car, and not given an explanation for the switch. At my husband's urging, I complained. We were told that the VW was the only automatic vehicle they had available for the day, and she offered a discount...of 5 euros. So, had I just simply booked the VW the day prior for 130, I would've saved myself 15 bucks. What's worse, is that I CAN drive a manual transmission, I just preferred not to while in a foreign country. Had they offered me an upgraded car that was worth the price-point I paid but with a manual transmission, I would've taken it. But they didn't offer, the VW was already prepped for us, and we had major time constraints so there was no time to ASK them to prep us a different vehicle and then wait for it. Service was friendly and the vehicle was clean and new, but we didn't appreciate the higher price for a lesser car (and the 5 euro discount was stupid).
