I wanted some Southern comfort food before leaving Savannah and lunch at Bubba's Bistro fit the bill! Tucked away in a strip mall, it's easy to miss but worth the find. Lucky for me, it was Wednesday when the fried pork chop plate with collards and mac and cheese was the special! If this is available, I couldn't suggest it more. The fried pork chop was perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. The mac and cheese wasn't super gooey or creamy, but I couldn't resist eating every last bite. I'm actually a big fan of collards and enjoyed these too. They had a Yelp check-in offer for fried okra (Southern popcorn), so we got that! It was a generous serving and the spicy ranch dipping sauce was addicting. Even if that special isn't available, the menu is pretty vast for a lunch only place. There are sandwiches, salads, flatbreads, and sides that all sound delicious. They're only open for lunch Monday through Friday until 3:00 pm, and do a brunch buffet on Sunday from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. I'd definitely love to come back to check that out! read more

I had already tasted some of BB's eats at the Brunch Festival (Stuffed French Toast) and The Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival (Shrimp Boil) and liked it so, after our playdate last week, we decided to eat at the actual restaurant and met some friends there. It is located in the Ways Station Shopping Center, around the middle. When you walk up to it, there is some seating outside and when you walk in, the restaurant is slightly narrow, but they have maximized on the window space. We took a table in the back. What we ate - I shared one of the daily specials with my little one and good thing I did, because there was plenty. We had the Fried Pork that came with a side of Mac and Cheese and Collard Greens. Also ordered a side of fries. The pork (there were 2 generous slices) was so tender and the crust so crispy! Panko maybe? It was delish! The Mac was good, creamy and cheesy. My little one didn't complain as she loves Mac and Cheese. The Collard Greens was a bit too salty for my taste, but I haven't really ever had Collard Greens before, so maybe they were supposed to be that way? The fries tasted pretty average. I was expecting hand cut fries for a restaurant of this caliber. Especially after the Fried Pork! Service - our server was very nice. She was very apologetic when one of our friends dish was taking awhile. Parking - in the shopping center. Pricing - Very reasonable for the quality. Vibe - it was nice, clean and bright. Kid Friendly - they have a kids menu with the same basic things like hot dogs. Skip it and share with your little ones and get them better quality tasting food! It was plenty! *Correction - No kids menu, but they do have a hot dog on the menu which I am still recommend to skip and let the little ones share a regular plate with you! I ordered a chicken sandwich and it came out not fully cooked. My husband's shrimp and grits were ok. The best thing were the kid's chicken tender meal. While nice, our waiter did not warn or apologize about the wait on dinner. The waitress for the table next to ours apologized numerous times to her table regarding the wait and brought them a banana pudding as an apology. This example is more about how to be a good server than the food. I ordered a vodka soda with lime. The drink that came was vodka, water and lime. This was my second time here and I wish I could love this place but I can't. The first tome I came and had a Bloody Mary with "stuffed" French toast that was just your run of the mill French toast. Today I came for lunch and the food was barely room temperature, the Boston butt had way too much sauce, the broccoli casserole was extremely salty, and the pineapple casserole was "meh". The Mac and cheese was tasty but would have been better if it were hot. Yes, the service is fast, but I'm sure the food sits back there in batches and doesn't stay hot. read more

Hidden gem that is tucked off the highway exit that we happened to stumble upon when we found out how our original food destination was too far inland from the road. I word buffet and buffet caught my eye and it happened to be Sunday. What better way to do a Southern buffet than to be with the church crowd? I've been a little underwhelmed by major chain country buffets including Ryan's, recently converted Golden Corral, and Ole Times, so finding something that was not a chain, made me hopeful that I was going to stumble on some real good southern food. this place did not disappoint. 13.99$ brunch buffet that could easily compete w/ one of those Paula Deen fancy places. I walked in, it was small and cozy that felt like someone had converted their home to a big entertainment parlor. Smaller selection but everything was high quality. Pics below. As soon as I saw how the mashed potatoes was done, I knew this was going to be good. I judge my Southern food on the following criteria: Mashed Potatoes, Shrimp n' grits, corn casserole, collard greens, mac and cheese and most importantly just the quality of the side dishes which define so much of good Southern cooking. Main entrees aren't as important to be, because skimping on quality of the side dishes, is just a no no, and yet nothing was doused in butter and greasy feeling. Nothing was too salty and everything was that delicate balance of heartiness, butteriness, but not leaving one feeling like they needed an immediate work out. Highly impressed with large spread of vegetarian options Mashed potatoes were the red potatoes (the best mashing kind) that still left the right size chunks for texture but still had the fluffiness of a good Southern potato. Corn Casserole. Very well done; creamed corn baked that was not saccharine and not too heavy. Good collards and great ratatouielle options w/ a tomato sauce that made the flavor fresh in contrast with buttery everything else. Shrimp n' grits. the fact that they had it was good 'nuff for me but I was impressed by the combination of flavors in the shrimp. Rich and luxurious; made up for check list of good grits for my southern visit (they ran out of grits and refused to refill at my hotel that morning, so I felt redeemed). Desserts though, I wasn't too impressed with. I wished they had more pies and more variety; everything was cake and "floury". The pastries were a little underwhelming; not flaky or crisp on the outside and felt a little too moist to me. All I remembered was brownie, cake, and cookie- just flour heavy treats, that all had the same texture. I wished there was some variety in texture like a pudding. Overall great find; seems like in past reviews, it's a hit or miss depending on day and time you go into. The Sunday brunch for me was an A plus. We were in Richmond Hill visiting some relatives who are veritable celebrities at this place. This is the second time we have visited and the second time we INSISTED on going to Bubba's. Fried chicken, chicken fried steak, waffles, and Mac N Cheese for breakfast. That is all you should really know. It is good. Quite good. Damn good. We request to come to this little joint every time we come to visit. OH. Almost forgot the desserts. Try to go when they have the scrumptious carrot cake or the black cherry chocolate trifle. Didn't venture out for their other southern offerings, but one of the chefs commented on my trying the Swedish-type meatballs over the cheesy grits- I said I haven't heard of it either but hey am giving it a shot. Not a good experience - my salad had rotting produce as did my chicken salad sandwich. Fried foods (fries and fish) were not cooked through. People were very nice and comped the salad but I also saw another table complaining about underdone burgers. Decor is well thought out but the infrastructure is old and there were many fruit flies. Brought my dad here on Father's Day. We enjoyed the buffet. They were quite busy but that's to be expected on Father's Day right... We had a reservation for seven people and they try to see us separately so that was a little upsetting but they fixed the issue when we spoke up. The food was nice. The waiter we had was good. We both ordered the shrimp and grits with the crabcake. Its served not competely mixed. There were 6 beautiful and large shrimp with just the tail shell part on it, the grits, and then the sauce. Its all in one dish but not stirred. It was very good!! For those that don't eat meat there are chunks of sausage in this. The crabcake didn't win me over as it was a breaded crabcake. Pleasant surprise! We wanted a quick place to get a quick breakfast and saw this place. We were lucky that it was Sunday so they had their brunch buffet going. Food was way better than the average buffet. Five stars for my experience but it is a buffet.... Best collards I've had on our little trip to the south. Biscuits, bacon, fried chicken, shrimp and grits, etc. I didn't have room for the pies but they definitely looked homemade. And it is right off the road. We really enjoyed our meal here --the pimiento cheese was freshly made, the collard greens were on point, and the fried chicken was perfect. My husband had the Suzanne and really enjoyed it. We were sadly too full to try the fried moon pie, but it sounded good. Great place! We got to town on a trip south to spend the night. Looked good, so we tried it out. What a great meal! Fried shrimp and collard greens were excellent. This was a surprising gem and absolutely a must visit place. We went for their buffet which only happens for lunch and brunch on Sunday but it was worth it! The food was very tasty. The only complaint I had there was the kitchen was having a little problem keeping up with the demand, but that was ok because there were so many items I liked. The service was also very good. They were very friendly and kept everything moving. I had a full drink every time it was empty and they took the plates shortly after we were finished with one. I wanted it to be so awesome. As a local business I wanted to be blown away by their service. Unfortunately, we got up and left after being seated and waiting for 20 minutes for anyone to come to the table. We were seated in a booth with torn seats with stuffing coming out. We never even received water. We did get menus when we sat down and the food choices looked amazing. I only wish we had had the opportunity to order some of it. Super unfortunate, when we moved to Richmond Hill, friends took us here when they were in the shopping center... We loved it! However, over time it seemed like the staff being hired and service continued to decline. I will say food was always great. Fast forward a few years and now they are in HWY17. Decided to visit for the buffet. Signs still says buffet, walked in hostess said yeah we are doing buffet. Meanwhile I'm looking behind them at no buffet! We ordered and so far I'm sitting at 25 minutes with no food, there were two couples in the restaurant, with a lot of staff standing around. I will say the music playlist was great though. read more

I ordered the chicken salad without bread and when it came out half my chicken salad was cold the bottom half was very warm. The mayo started to separate. Our sides were creamed corn, okra, green beans, Mac n cheese, squash casserole and collards. Dessert was peach cobbler. Seriously got enough food for 4 and everything was perfectly prepared. Delicious! I picked from the daily menu online. They called to confirm my order & I paid over the phone. I picked the time I'd like to pick up my meal. They had marks on the floor to keep people 6 feet apart while picking up orders. I noticed some people called from the parking lot to have the food taken to their cars.
