However, the office management has caused gross problems in obtaining and maintaining appointments. There have been frustrating issues in the past but it has been made much more difficult for me to maintain proper dental care as of recent. I had an appointment scheduled (for 6 months) for a second cleaning last week and received text reminders of it. However, just days before, new reminders came in for an hour earlier than the originally scheduled time. I called the office and was told they moved my time. I advised that I can't finagle that due to my work schedule and was told my appointment would have to be moved to October.. and was only offered times that wouldn't work for me. The receptionist verified she was going to cancel the appointment and I got online and found an appointment that work ok with my schedule for just a week later (today). I received email verification that the appointment was "confirmed". I received a couple of text reminders of this appointment and, again, made arrangements to take work off early to attend. I left work early across town today and made it to the previously confirmed and rescheduled appointment just to be told my appointment had been canceled and given to someone else who "needed it" because I didn't "confirm" the appointment again via text by yesterday. I had already received confirmation of the appointment. I've used this dentistry for years and don't think I've ever confirmed via text.. nor have I ever been a no show. There is nothing in the text that states this is required or that there is a deadline to do so or your already "confirmed" appointment will be cancelled without notice. It felt like passive-aggressive game playing and I was met with disregard. Again, I was given the option of scheduling for impossible times for me in October. In this economy, having to lose time from work and with current gas prices, this sort of treatment of a patient leaves one feeling quite devalued. I didn't find out until the day of my 1st appointment that I wasn't going to see him. I called and asked why I was switched and all they stated was " we can reschedule you if you want ". No other rationale other than I could reschedule to see Dr. Atkins. This unfortunately made me distrust this practice right off the bat. I had already taken off work that day so I decided to go ahead and just go and see the other doctor. He ended up being great but I still feel like the office staff was in the wrong. When you go to check in the office staff are very straight to the point and only interested in your insurance information or obtaining payment. They really don't smile. They seem to lack empathy and lack customer service/kindness. I would send them all to Chick-Fil-A for a week to do some training. lol. I also received a surprise call from the office 6 months post surgery about owing additional money. I guess they had billed my insurance and it took this long for them to realize they needed a little more money from me. I was under the impression that everything was 100% payed for when I left that day after surgery. I understand dealing with insurance can take time and be difficult so I just paid it and moved on with my life. I would recommend this oral and maxillary surgery practice. I do believe the doctors are very good and this is why my dentist sent me to them. The nurses/dental assistants were very good as well. The front desk office staff ( aka, the face of your business ) unfortunately lacked in my opinion but the good news is they aren't the ones doing surgery on you ! :)

Unfortunately, after more than 14 months of treatment, I can honestly say this has been one of the most frustrating healthcare experiences I have ever had. My biggest issue with Dr. T was the complete lack of communication, lack of empathy, and lack of a clear treatment plan. From the beginning, I repeatedly asked what the plan was, what the timeline looked like, what the next steps were, and what I should be preparing for. I rarely received direct answers. Instead, I often left appointments more confused, stressed, and frustrated than when I arrived. There were multiple times I left in tears because I could not get straightforward information about what was happening with my own treatment. The tooth involved was in a highly visible area. From day one, I made it very clear that I was not willing to be without a visible tooth. I am a mother of multiple young children, and I repeatedly explained my concerns. At one point during my pregnancy, my understanding was that the recommendation would leave me without a visible tooth through delivery and postpartum recovery. That was unacceptable to me, and i made that clear. Part of the treatment delay was later blamed on my pregnancy despite my OB providing clearance for necessary dental treatment. To this day, I still do not feel I was given a clear explanation for many of the delays that occurred. One of the most frustrating aspects of this entire process was the constant lack of direction. At nearly every appointment, I asked what came next. I specifically asked multiple times when I needed to have a dentist selected to complete the restorative portion of my implant. I was told not to worry about it because we were not at that stage. Later, I was questioned about why I did not already have a dentist selected because it should have been done by now. That type of conflicting information was a recurring theme throughout my treatment. I also requested on two separate occasions that my records and imaging be shared with other dental professionals so I could obtain additional opinions and better understand my options before moving forward with such a significant procedure. Those requests were discouraged. As a patient, I should never have felt discouraged from seeking additional information or outside opinions. From the beginning, I questioned whether the treatment path being recommended was truly my only option. Because I was unable to get the collaboration and guidance I was asking for, I never felt confident that all alternatives had been fully explored or explained. When the implant was placed, I was also not properly informed about what recovery would look like. The amount of facial swelling I experienced was shocking. Had I been properly prepared, I would have known what to expect. Instead, when I raised concerns, I felt like the assumption was immediately that I had somehow failed to follow instructions rather than my concerns being taken seriously. There were also multiple interactions that I found unprofessional. I witnessed staff members being spoken to in a way that came across as dismissive and condescending. Respect should apply to everyone in an office, regardless of title. The comment that best summarizes my experience happened when I expressed concerns about being without a visible tooth because of my children. I explained that my four-year-old would absolutely notice and comment on it because, like most four-year-olds, she is brutally honest. Dr. T's response was that perhaps I should teach my child not to be rude. Rather than acknowledging my concern, I felt dismissed. After more than 14 months, I am still not finished with treatment. My frustration is not that dental treatment takes time. My frustration is that after more than a year, I still feel there was no clear roadmap, poor communication, conflicting information, little empathy, and very little respect for the concerns I repeatedly raised. I waited a long time to write this review because I wanted to be fair. Unfortunately, the longer this process continued, the more my concerns were reinforced. Patients deserve clear communication, realistic expectations, empathy, and respect. That was not my experience.

(It took us by surprise!) But he was very reassuring and had great "bedside manner." The office staff and dental assistants were equally amiable. I'm thankful we were told to come here, because although I made many phone calls and had several referrals to other offices--- this one is by far the best! We had a horrible visit with my 8 yr old who had an abscessed tooth. They referred us to a peds dentist and assured us we would be seen and they had more options for sedation. Sheman's office staff did not get the correct information from the other office and sent me to them with a kid who was in pain and recently numbed. Due to Sheman's staff my son did not have the work done and was left in pain until we could get another appointment. When I was upset in the office (after dealing with my hurt & upset child) the office staff thought it was funny?!? The lack of professionalism in their office staff was unnerving! This is the 3rd time I have had issues with the staff. The first time was for procedures done that were not covered by my insurance (which is excellent btw) leaving me with a shocking $500+ bill. The 2nd time I was assured I would only be billed about $40 extra on a cleaning visit (which are normally free with my insurance), but was actually billed an additional $150!!!! If you are willing to spend the big bucks out if pocket, then go for it the Doc is awesome, but DO NOT count on his staff to give you correct information or follow through!
