Bruxelles les Bains takes place for about 1 month or so each summer on the canal in Brussels nearby the Yser metro stop (limited parking is also available on site and additional parking on the street).
After hearing about this last year (but never going) I went twice this year! When the weather is nice, I couldn't think of a better way to spend time outside drinking in the sun with friends.
When I first went, I thought that it would be a beach with sand everywhere and maybe a couple of bars set up as though it is a beach. While there is sand and bars, it's not at all what I imagined it would be. There are tons of bars/stands/vendors selling a wide variety of drinks and food (ranging from African fare to Romanian to bagels and salads).
There are a couple of stages to listen to live music/DJs and to enjoy yourself that way as well as fussball tables and beach volleyball courts and even fountains to run in (but I've only ever seen kids do that!).
What is also great is that there are a number of stands that accept card payments, which certainly makes it easier on everyone who forgets cash!
I'm already forward to going again next year! read more
