Roehampton University is based in South West London, surrounded by Putney, Richmond and Wimbledon…read more To be fair, Roehampton is a total dump there's no getting past it, but the surrounding area makes it worthwhile. What I love about the location is the fact that it's a London University, it's in zone 3 and if you want to get into central you just have to hop onto a bus or tube and you're there quickly. However, you're just enough out of the hustle and bustle with places like Richmond Park on your doorstep. The university itself has a great campus. Froebel is the gem with its beautiful manor house and lake and is the base for teacher training and education, Whitelands is the sports college and Digby Stuart and Southlands are for those who study humanities. Though I do English Language and Linguistics I chose to be a Froebel student. There's something about the atmosphere at Froebel that you don't get anywhere else- everyone knows each other and it feels like one big family! The nightlife is great with something happening every day of the week whether it's a big themed night out at Fez Club or the Bop or just a quiz at one of the bars. Sports teams play a big part of life with men and women's football and rugby, tennis, rowing, lacrosse and ultimate frizbee to name but a few! I'd definitely recommend getting involved because you've got 20 friends instantly! If you're in the process of choosing a university give it a look- you get the fun of London and the beauty of Surrey all tied up in one neat little package.

There are a few problems with this university. ESPECIALLY if you are an international student…read more Roehampton is absolutely horrendous at making a schedule in a timely enough manner that you don't have to pay a fortune to get a flight home for breaks or end up having to change your flight which costs a pretty penny. For a uni with a lot of international students you would think they would be more considerate. They always release the year schedule about only 2 months before you actually have to be there and getting a plane ticket in that time frame is horrible. Also, along with that they take their sweet time releasing exam time tables. A week into break and we just got told when our exam would be even though they knew which classes were given an exam last spring and had an actual copy of the exam at the start of term. And the final thing is (at least for the history program) every staff member has a different way of the way you should do assignments. I have written 3 critical commentaries just this term. 2 for one teacher one for another. I wrote all three in the same style, I got a first and a 2:1 from one teacher and the other teacher completely failed me. Since staff don't have the same expectations, every assignment is you trying to figure out what they are wanting and has to be trial and error. Along with that they have no problem giving you one week to do 2 major assignments (one was a 2500 word essay) and 3 minor assignments. The positives of the uni is it's nicely located to travel all over London easy if they are not doing construction and the campus is very pretty. The night life and activities they put on are a lot of fun, just the academics need a lot of work.

The London College of Communication is the largest college out of the University of the Arts London…read morewith around 9, 000 students. LCC attracts wide range of talented students from all ages, backgrounds, bringing in a real mix of cultures. The staff are highly professional and are passionate about what they do and teach. The university is split into four schools: School of Media, Printing and Publishing, Creative Enterprise and Graphic Design. One can do courses in such things as 3D Design, Interior Design, Film, Media & Cultural studies, Photography, PR and Publishing. The unfortunate aspect of studying at LCC is its location in Elephant and Castle, which is not the most attractive or welcoming of places.

I liked the graphic design and illustrations I saw framed on the walls. I recommend this school…read more I studied letterpress here but would get lost trying to get through the market from the Tube. The cafeteria serves many pork dishes so I would just get chocolate or crisps from the machine. The chair of graphic design is a nice man.

When contacted to get convinced to apply and advised them of the university's grades, I was given…read morehope that they would give opportunities to highly experienced applicants as well, and not just base their decisions on just marks, so, after many thoughts, I applied. Then, received the outcome and, regrettably, I would like just to say that I believe the only reason why I was "supported" to "try" applying was, as it potentially could have happened to many others, was to simply pay the £75 application fee. Convenient. As much as Bachelor's scores matter and show some level of knowledge, the true knowledge is not shown just through a piece of paper; therefore, I do feel my 11 years of professional experience (without the need of the piece of paper) have not been given the value they deserved. Perhaps someone with 0 experience in the real world but with some higher marks will be more suitable! I have worked in the financial environment for quite some time now and my journey will continue, progress and get where it needs to be with or without a Masters at your university or another. I have endured a lot more in my life and never given up. £75 would have not made me richer, hence the reason why I do not regret paying them. However, I do know deep down that it's just the strategy, as in any business, to get more applicants. All the best with your application process!

I have degrees from three US schools and came to KCL for a Ph.D. This is by far the worst run…read moreschool I have ever attended. As an organization, it is incompetent; they deliver a sub-standard educational experience. The staff goes on strike every year. It takes the administration 6 months to do something I can complete in an hour. They deliver fewer contact hours with professors than any other school I have attended. The only positive is that it is a cheap and easy place to get a degree in London. If you want a top tier educational experience, go to LSE or a school in the US. The university's staff and structure literally put more time into hindering any educational experience than trying to deliver a world-class experience. If there were a high school, I would disenroll my kids.

Amersham & Wycombe college run a huge selection of courses at different levels. from BFD (pre-GCSE…read morelevel) to degrees in association with BCUC. The teaching is mostly excellent, but varies a bit from staff member to staff member, but that's the nature of education. The departments are well equipped for most ideas that the students want to put into action (at least I haven't heard anyone complain). The Media department is particularly good, and I believe it is the only college in the country to have its own green screen and motion capture facilities. If you are looking into studying media or any type of arts based course I would highly recommend Amersham college. I don't know too much about the more academic side of things though, so wouldn't like to comment. The general atmosphere is relaxed but not lazy, and the staff are friendly and will usually bend over backwards to help us out.

I did my degree at Bucks New Uni and it has many good points, as well as some bad. To start with,…read morethe University doesn't have the best reputation and it tends to be at the bottom of the ranking tables. Having said I really do think it's always improving and has real potential to be a decent Uni. They've spent a lot on refurbishing and rebuilding parts of the Uni and so half of it is lovely and new and half of it is still a bit shabby. There is quite a good range of courses on offer including Business, Music, Graphics, Textiles, Film & TV, English and Art. The level of teaching I recieved when I was there I felt was mostly good with most lecturers being very knowledgable and genuinly caring about students. There are also several benefits for students such as free clubs, sports, societies and business and career support, as well as a yearly bursary for every student. Overall I recommend Bucks but I realise there are better universities out there.

Here comes bias-city…read more Imperial College is a fantastic place to study, the faculty here are top notch, and the number of societies and amount of activities you can get involved with endless. For a university dedicated to science, technology and medicine, students here are surprisingly gifted in the arts (we've got several orchestras and choirs, as well as the main college orchestra which won the competition for the best University Orchestra in 2008) and sports. Located in South Kensington but with campuses around Hammersmith, Paddington, Chelsea and White City there's loads of things to do, and easy access to the rest of London for nights out. And the campuses themselves look great. Our union has vastly improved, and is cheap (of course) which makes up for the house prices in London. And you get to graduate in the Royal Albert Hall. Bonus. But then, like others here, I would say that!

My University is awesome, and that is the brutal truth and the important difference between you,…read morethe reader, and me, the student. You are blissfully unaware of what we get, here at QMUL. The student village is awesome, with rooms for over a thousand first years available. I live in the largest building of them all, 450 people all present and loving a bit of uni life. There is a convenience store just a one minute walk from my building, selling almost all of the groceries you could desire. There is a laundry room with about 16 washers and driers, and to sort your washing out (a once a week occurance) will only cost you £2.50. I strongly feel that when I move out of this place in my second year that I will be using this laundry room still! The student union, a five minute walk across campus, provides both a large and well furnished gym and a bar that turns into a club for certain nights of the week (Well, most nights of the week) so it's awesome. The academia of this university can't be doubted. An excellent school of knowledge, complete with a massive library that opens until midnight on weeknights makes the learning experience awesome. The lecturers are accessible and helpful in almost all cases and the labs and seminar rooms are top of the range. An excellent place to come.

Having recently graduated from Queen Mary I have, over the course of the last three years, had the…read moreopportunity to experience first hand the atmosphere, academic standard and social opportunity this insitution offers. Situated in the increasingly trendy area of Mile End, with great transport links to the city, students of this university have the opportunity to live within the last genuine working class area of central London before it is swallowed up in the unstoppable tide of gentrification. I love this area of the city; there is a buzz in the air everywhere you go, development is everywhere you look and down every street you will find an array of different cultures all contributing something unique to this cosmoplitan sprawl. Mile End and the surrounding areas offer their own range of shops, restaurants, pubs, bars, clubs, parks, markets, cinemas, galleries, theatres and much else besides. Some areas can be a little intimidating but I feel the media plays an overly-large part in stressing the dangers rather than the positives. Chances are, so long as you're sensible, you're not likely to run into much trouble. Queen Mary campus itself is located a stones throw away from Mile End and Stepney Green tube stations. During the last few years it has undergone a rather dramatic facelift with the completion of work on new buildings such as the curve, remodelling of the student union and the student village and continuing works on a new humanities building. These new features are demonstrative of the increasing popularity of this consistently improving university. Aside from the forementioned students union which houses Drapers Bar, Queen Mary offers several coffee/cafateria style bars and restaurants, laundry services, excellent library facilities, on campus accomodation (a rarity for London university's), sports facilities including a new state of the art gym, and several shops. Anything not available on campus can be found within a short walk. Socially there is a wealth of clubs and societies available for you to join from Hockey to Croquet, History to Football and Climbing. Most revolve around drinkin games of one sort or another and can be a great way to branch out, meet new people and secure that elusive criminal conviction. Just down the road one can find the uber-trendy areas of Brick Lane and Shoreditch and after a short walk to the tube, the rest of London's vibrant social scene is at your disposal.
