I had an okay hair do here but was not as impressed as I expected to be given Nelson Browns reputation. Neither the stylist or colourist really listened to what I wanted and did their own thing and dried it how they wanted, not how I asked. You are charged a fee when you book and this is taken off your final bill if you turn up. Comparatively it was about 50GBP less than Mad Lillies in Hampstead but nowhere near as good a cut or experience. read more

I was very surprised by the above negative feedback. I have been going to this salon for 3 years and have had a few different girls, i might add all excellent! Never in the 3 years i have been going have i ever heard of a booking fee (think thats been made up)! I have my colour + cut done every 8-10 weeks and it really lasts and grows out well. Other salons ive tried i feel it needs cut again after a few weeks. I had mine done on Saturday and as usual am very pleased:) The good thing about this salon is the time and care they take and they always chat with me first to go through ideas. This salon is a haven for style. My reasons for giving it a 5 star rating are that - i have never been so well informed by my stylists as to whats going to happen with my hair, what the final outcome is and what after care is suitable for my lifestyle. I'm a very busy professional person, who needs low maintenance high impact hair, and since i have been going to browns after reading about them in the international press, my hair has NEVER ever been in such healthy condition, its shiny, glossy and lasts for 8 to 10 weeks between haircuts. what i did notice was the level of attention all the stylists give each customer, the chat was all about the hair, not whats happening this following weekend. And, the dreaded straightening irons were not enforced on my poor hair, it seems that every other salon reaches for them to make the hair look good. I, as a professional lady, would recommend this salon to anyone. Browns are serious about hair and making you look great, with minimum effort. Sophisticated - Did you get back in touch and speak to them about it? There is no point compaining about something if you don't give people a chance to rectify what you are not happy about. I had a great hair cut at Brown's on the Fri but over the weekend I realised that I needed it tweaked slightly to suit my lazy hair care routine (or lack of) I called up they said come in and the same stylist only needed 10/15 mins to resolve where I was having problems and I was really pleased. I have really short hair and I can go over 2 months without having to have it cut which is a vast improvement on other salon's in the area. read more

What a find outside of a big city! Completely brilliant cut, great customer service and no hard sell on products. The biz.

Best haircut i've had in a long time. From the beginning they were professional and friendly. Great drinks menu and the hair washing was so relaxing, usually they're quite ruff but this almost felt like an Indian head massage thrown in for free! The stylist looked at some pictures and rough ideas i'd been thinking about and was able to pick up what i was looking for even though i wasn't exactly sure myself, she talked about face shape and how to manage it and keep it styled perfectly. It was £45 which is slightly more than i usually pay but so worth it. Will definitely be back. I love my new hair! read more

cant wait to get my colour and cut next week from nelson and crombie. i have bren getting my hair coloured and cut the last 2 times now and its starting to feel better. they didnt have great hair to work with at start as a hairdresser coloured and permed it within a few days of each othern nelson knows how worried i get about my hair and has only been taking a little bit of damaged hair of at a time so i can keep my style cant recommend them enough wish it was before tuesday cant wait lizi if i could get fitted in before tuesday id be there like a shot read more

To be fair I've had colour and cut here several times and it was great. However, after enlisting their help to do my wedding hair, I've been swiftly scared off! Oh my goodness, what to say. Absolute disgrace! I had been in the salon for hours and I had to say I liked the trial just so I could leave! I paid the huge deposit in advance as I had no option and even though this was months before the wedding date they kept every cent. Honestly, my hair was horrible, like a poo wrapped on top of my head. Their shampoo and styling products left my hair with horrible texture and dull. I really could do better myself. On a bad day. On my way to work. While driving. Please, don't go here for bridal hair. They cannot do it. Additionally, can I just add, a 'stylist' who shall remain nameless (though they have their name displayed on the big sign outside) was so full of his own self importance I had to listen to him rave on about his grandure to four separate customers. 'Oh that terrible B and B word, we will not be partaking in any such event where brick a brack is around'. This drove me insane the forth time I heard it. Nevertheless, I'm not here to judge the personality if the staff merely the hair they produce. I am also sending my thoughts and photos to wedding magazines as I know a few journalists and editors, not because I want to shame browns but because I want to save brides from the street of the terrible bridal hair they do. I so wanted this to be a great hairdresser but instead my hopes were truly dashed. I entered the salon with a messy, out-grown style in serious need of a cut. I left the salon with the worst cut I have ever experienced. And don't just take it from me. My good friends were honest enough to tell the truth ("Who did that to you"?), my acquaintances too ("Oh! I think I preferred it longer" or "Well at least it will grow"), and my family remained resolutely silent, pretending it hadn't happened. When a hairdressers says "It's pedal to the metal at this time of year" I recommend getting out of the seat and leaving. You are in danger of a rushed hair cut - the sheep dip approach to hair styling. The result was not only a dodgy style (somewhere between coco-the-clown and Perry Grayson on a bad day) but also random strands of uncut hair that you have get your better half to tidy up. No attention to detail at all and the hairdresser didn't seem to have a clear idea of how to finish the front. I'm happy to pay £60 for a decent cut, but instead this will cost a lot more by the time I have paid for a 'rescue cut' elsewhere. Such a shame. read more
