I bought my first shed from Brown Buildings and I had no clue what to expect. The quality is great but the service.. not so much. John Brown is nice up front but he will tell you anything you want to hear to make the sale. When we ordered our shed from him, we made it clear that we would like our shed in our backyard and we have a standard double gate fence. He mentioned the shed shouldn't have a problem fitting through the fence because they deal with this all the time. I should have measured the gate myself but I didn't and trusted John's outlook. When the shed was delivered, it wouldn't fit through our gate. We had to compromise by putting the shed in our front yard instead, which isn't ideal. John knows what a "standard double gate" is since he's been doing this for 20+ years. He knows if he told us the shed wouldn't fit through our gate, we wouldn't have purchased the shed from him. He told us what we wanted to hear so we would buy the shed from him.
Also, when ordering I told John I was going to put my riding lawnmower in the shed and asked how the elevation would be setup to ensure I could get the lawnmower in. I told him the shed will be placed on a flat surface and he said that won't be an issue. The shed sits a half foot above my lawn and there is no way to fit the lawnmower without a ramp. Not once did John mention the need to purchase a ramp from him separately.
I called him today to ask about this and he said he said he "couldn't remember" what we discussed when we ordered the shed but was "sure" I didn't inform him of the fence OR lawnmower, which I did. I requested a ramp for free to make up for the misleading business practices, which he wasn't willing to do. He wanted me to give him an additional $390 for the ramp + $80 for installation and said it was my fault this happened.
The sheds are nice, but if you do business with these people make sure you understand EXACTLY what you're getting so you aren't misled and disappointed. They WILL NOT do anything to help you after the sale. You're just $$$ dollar signs to them. read more
